follow the manuals you get with the products you buy and you really can't go wrong and just take your time. Far more satisfying building a system yourself
They are more rigid than you would think. Most dangerous part is putting the CPU on the mobo, and that's as simple as placing it on top of the pins for Intel or placing the pins in the pretty large holes for AMD
Ohhh
It's hard to bend pins if you carefully place it down and make sure it's in correctly before closing the socket
now is a pretty good time too. New hardware launching over the next 2-3 months. Exciting and expensive times ahead! 😄
oh no not expensive 😔
shiii I just want a 3060 ti the gameplay good everything good that’s good enough for me 💀
3060 ti at $400 at least used to be great value, I don't know anymore. But it will last for many years. It's stronger than the 1080 ti at release and the 1080 ti was a modern card competitor for 6 years
Newer hardware should drive down prices of older hardware so you may be in luck being able to get an even better system for your money
^
40 series might not even be available to purchase, and it's significantly more expensive than 30 series
I don't know the performance difference
After I get my desk I’m gonna start building it And do more research
at least 2x performance expected compared to RTX 30 series
I feel like I can make a good one with all the sales going on
There is also the AMD 7000 series CPUs but I think the motherboards have ddr5, and with the difference between the pin layout of ddr3 and ddr4, idk if ddr5 is backwards compatible
Might be worth it. I'm happy with my 6700 XT that I overpaid for
Ryzen 7000 only supports DDR5, no support for DDR4. While Intel 12th and 13th gen support both DDR4 and DDR5, just got to look out for the boards that support what, it will be mentioned and usually it is the more premium offerings with DDR5 support
@ruby flare how’s ur fps ?
I bought it in May, right before price drop
70+ fps highest settings at 1440p on red dead redemption 2
damn it doesn’t go under 70 that’s good
Usually goes down in certain areas in the game
Intel's constant socket changes are annoying
I bought my 6800 XT last June, right in the midst of the shortage and cryptocurrency boom. Paid almost double the MSRP for it (£1200!) now they sell for around £700 I believe
Oooo way cheaper
I got my 6700 XT at $550 at the start of summer, now it's $450
Which is encroaching on the price of the 3060Ti
But DLSS is superior to FSR in terms of support
AMD does have RSR but it doesn't make as much of a change as FSR
DLSS 3.0 looks cool but only available on 40 series cards
super demanding though without the assistance of DLSS
Nvidia will also be better for raytracing
But 100% I think I can make it way better if I go custom I can prolly go higher than the pre build one but the pre build one is pretty good for being a pre build all the other ones I looked at sucked
The pre build has a Nvidia GeForce
I'm not the person to ask about prebuilts but I looked up the prebuilt you said on Amazon and I could only find a 11700f and 3060 ti
Instead of a 12700
And it was $1500, which I believe is pretty meh
ima build my own but the one I saw is 1300
Just bc it might be cheaper with better stuff
a good site to help you configure a custom build is pcpartpicker. Sometimes I find it fun to make up some absurd things on there and can become a bit of a game lol. Though on a more serious note it will help with incompatibilities
ima go for a all black and red type set up look
It will definitely be cheaper. Also keep in mind you might need to fit peripherals in your budget
yeah Ik I’m not going crazy on anything except the monitor it has to be a good one at least keyboard and mouse is gonna be under 150
You can go for 1440p for a 3060 ti and above but under that I would recommend 1080p
a lot of monitors on sale too
But you may also prioritize fps more
DLSS Super Resolution is a key part of DLSS 3, and is under constant research and continues to be honed and improved. DLSS Super Resolution updates will be made available for all RTX GPUs.
We are encouraging developers to integrate DLSS 3, which is a combination of DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, and NVIDIA Reflex. DLSS 3 is a superset of DLSS 2.
While DLSS Frame Generation is supported on RTX 40 Series GPUs, all RTX gamers will continue to benefit from DLSS Super Resolution and NVIDIA Reflex features in DLSS 3 integrations.
there one at my local place next to my house and they got 700 monitors for 200 or 300
It’s crazy
Ah
With crazy stuff
my set up bouta go crazy rn it’s just a big tv and a crap desk and an Xbox
i just had to get my car n stuff before I started tryna upgrade my gaming stuff
Watch out for 4K. It is ridiculously demanding and will require a high end system, unless you plan to lower a bunch of settings taking away from the fidelity of games. I'm one of those that cranks almost everything up to max, even at 4K. Everything but ray tracing that is. Even FSR doesn't save my computer from what I consider poor performance if I was to game at 4K maxed + ray tracing
Also I should mention my frames are slightly increased by resizable bar, it's a bios setting
y’all gonna have to help me with all the setting stuff💀 so it reaches it’s max potential
can do! 🙂
i think the set up will be done by Dec if I get my new job next month
You really just need XMP, fan curves, and any frame boosting settings that are available if you want them
Ong
My dad sent me this big curved desk like how am I gonna fit this in my room 💀
ima slowly upgrade it desk than monitor than everything else is gonna come pretty quick so early Dec or prolly late Dec tbh bc this is bouta be expensive depends if my dad finds a good desk thats cheap or something
👍
No
Sounds like a fun game but I'm not for the toxic "play all day, have your stuff stolen by morning gameplay" because I don't have the time for it
true ifs just fun it sneak into peoples bases take an Ak and kill the whole team 💀 and dip
A few things to note about Deathloop:
- Hold to Sprint doesn't seem to work on PC keyboard; just seems to be a toggle no matter what it's set to
- weapon trinkets will remain in a weapon if you drop it for something else; not sure if you can pick it up later after returning to an area
- scroll down in the photo mode sub menus to see all of the settings, lol
- weapon wheel is a bit buggy on mouse/keyboard when remapping the input (need to hold it absurdly long)
- gfx take up ~7000 MB of VRAM at 1080p max settings ; I can't seem to play it at higher resolutions at any reasonable fidelity without going overboard (3070 Ti & Ryzen 7 5800x)
- Nvidia's overlay isn't measuring fps and power properly; possible need to get a driver fix or something for this version of the game
- you MUST leave an area after meeting objectives in order to save your full progress (i.e. retain new loot), so don't let your guard down
I was reading some reviews at the time of release for deathloop they said the PC version had issues, not sure what has been resolved since then

Am I nuts for craving the 4090?
Nope but only if fits ur budgetand ur pc could support it
I'd wait and see what AMD announce on November 3rd before jumping in on buying a 4090 and according to Nvidia you are going to want a power supply that is at least 850W and has 3x 8 pin (individual) or the newer 16 pin. That requirement may change with AIB cards
My psu can handle it, and amds last cards were disappointing
hmm how come? I've owned my 6800 XT Red Devil now since June 2021 and it has been everything I expected and then some (just wish I didn't pay as much as I did at the time). Only really lacks in ray tracing otherwise it is a powerhouse
@full flint I want it too but it’s. So expensive
The raytracing support is what disappointed me.
ahh, I see. I don't really bother with ray tracing. DLSS and FSR have to be used to save even the top tier GPUs from the sheer impact it has on performance and for what? Outside of ray traced global illumination and ray traced reflections most other ray traced options seem too subtle
For support, please initially refer to #795454807250173972 and see if you can resolve your issue on your own. If you are unable to resolve your issue still after that, refer to #233805809346150400. I just found. 130 fps average build for 1k
just keep in mind that most prebuild PCs can often cheap out on components and add extra cost for building it. Things that can be avoided building it yourself. Might cost a little more in the end but better quality components make up for it and there is fewer better feeling than building a computer yourself imo and seeing it successfully boot for the first time. I remember when I done that back in 2016 with my first custom PC build. Pretty sure I shed a few happy tears and was super excited. Felt like I was on top of the world back then lol 😄
Yeah that's true ones I've seen can skimp out on the SSD
For now SSD speed doesn't matter but with Direct storage games finally coming it could well do
I've been building for 15 years now I think I would be too paranoid to go with a pre build. If it was it would need to be a custom build not an OEM like Dell, thier configs and bios are terrible from what I've seen in Gamers Nexus videos
OEM builds always seem terrible and often use non-standard parts. I'm OK with a pre-built as long as it uses standard parts so that I can add to it or change it as I wish.
My old prebuilt used fairly standard parts, just not super good ones. M.2 SSD with SATA format. And the specs but worst of all super hard to take apart and then you realize oh wait the motherboard doesn't move out of the spot
anybody ever see that persistent black square artifact when playing games?
nope
This article is.... A bit interesting lol
Gonna see if I can get a 4090 for under $1,700
Obviously this requires waiting past release day
Most people will buy past release day, sure, but the question is... How much past it? Food 4 thought.
I'd hold out for AMD's event and see what they announce. Nvidia really are going all in with ray tracing and expecting gamers with their products to be gaming with all the eye candy. Wasn't that long ago I used to get told gaming at ultra settings was a dumb thing by some. If not for DLSS and FSR what would gaming with ray tracing enabled be? Seemingly at 4K without DLSS enabled Nvidia showed Cyberpunk 2077 still ran at around 22 FPS, which for a $1600 GPU is ridiculous. Disable ray tracing and I bet performance shoots up close to 100 FPS, which would have been more respectable and in line with the generational performance increase. Have seen it plenty of times on my 6800 XT while testing ray tracing on vs off and although they are very different things, just like the whole hype around HDR, ray tracing just seems to be all hype too. I'll wait for it to get to a point where ray tracing can be enabled without the assistance of DLSS, FSR or XeSS while maintaining 60+ FPS before I think of even using said settings
I think for that to happen (ray-tracing to improve without AI upscaling techniques), there needs to be a moratorium on improving graphical assets in other ways. Things like texture maps, polygon counts for mesh sizes, alpha particle densities, # of assets computed at once, resolution size...
...but the building of raw assets is apparently being made easier with other AI techniques, so the focus on machine learning / etc. isn't really going to go away, so there may never be a focus project on whether rtx holds up without DLSS etc. Maybe an academic one, somewhere. lol
yeah, there is a lot of work to be done with ray tracing but I sure hope there is a way where the performance cost can be reduced on ray tracing's end rather than having to use these upscaling techniques to regain performance though as you said, I really don't think they will be changing things any time soon. Even AMD may soon be joining in on the machine learning AI side so I'm guessing we can expect costs to go up even more. Now I really miss the days of $700 top tier GPUs. What'd I'd do to relive the 980 Ti and 1080 Ti days again 😦
980 Ti was my first serious GPU but it took me about a year after I bought it to get a system up and running to where I could use it and wow, I was impressed. Though the performance increase moving up to the 1080 Ti the year or so later was amazing. My only issue I had at the time was it being a founders edition card and those got really hot. No matter what I tried within a minute of loading up a game GPU temperature was hitting the stock ceiling of 83c for that GPU. Meanwhile fast forward to today, I go on so much about it but my 6800 XT Red Devil barely passes 70c in games and most of the time I don't hear the fans spinning, compared to how both the 980 Ti and 1080 Ti used to sound like jet fighters taking off lol
I was bottlenecking my 980 for the first year or so when I had mine, too. And yeah it's crazy how low the temperatures get... 60-70C or more when I was pushing the old card and now I rarely go above 55C lol
ultra settings and ray tracing are vastly different
Ultra settings are because the visual difference at that level is negligible despite a significant performance hit
Ray-tracing is an entirely different renderer
the argument against ray tracing is basically identical to the one against per-pixel shaders back in the early 2000s
despite the technique initially being a massive performance hit then, it's the baseline for most 3D games now, unless they intentionally try to make their game look like a late 90s title
ray tracing means i can see reflections in cyberpunk
ultra does not
I'm convinced some devs do that intentionally. Have seen a few games with reflections set to high/ultra looking just as nice as you'd expect ray traced reflections to look while carrying none of the performance impact. Obviously it isn't ray traced but in some of these games with good non ray traced reflections I'm curious just how different that game would look with the addition of ray traced reflections and both solutions compared side by side. Almost certain there was a big fuss around the time Nvidia launched the RTX 20 series hinting that some devs were told to make certain graphics settings look rubbish compared to their ray traced counterpart. How true this fuss became idk but if there is one thing I know Nvidia need all the marketing they can get so it wouldn't at all surprise me
lol no
SSR is awful
just because it draws what's on the screen means it can look good, but it also has a lot of artifacting, culling, and disocclusion issues
you could use planar reflections
which are hyper-accurate
but are also insanely resource intensive
and also can't be dithered
so they only work on mirrorlike surfaces
then you have ambient occlusion
which is one of the biggest uses of RT
which, sure AO is a lot better when it can be baked in
but anything with a time of day is going to break that
shadows are probably one thing where RT wouldn't be necessary as a replacement
but it does improve those as well
global illumination is the biggest area where it has an effect though
since it removes the requirements of probe lighting
probe lights are time consuming
and manually placed
and also cause odd glows to things where they shouldnt
RT's other good use is particles, fluids, and refractions
refractions and caustics are a huge tool
Pretty sure my psu died
Turned off mid browsing and now all it does is turn the fans and lights on but no picture or nothing
Only turns on when i plug the psu switch too
i thought my PSU died once cus my PC would flicker off right after i pressed power
It did that with another PSU so it couldn't be the power supply. I forgot how i got it working again tbh
hello
i need some help. Is there anyway to redeem the discord nitro gamepass code without adding a card?
No
I’ve had a psu die once, it would turn on for 1-5 seconds and then shutdown. Changing it fixed the issue
PSA, and this is embarrassing to say as an IT technician, don't make the mistake I did. Must have killed my CPU because I accidentally got thermal paste on it and even tried cleaning it. Moral of the story is to not use too much thermal paste
im trying to play the mw2 open beta with a 3060 and a ryzen 7 3800x and my frames are pretty low at the recommended settings. I checked my task manager and my gpu is at 4 percent. Is there a reason for this?
Update your drivers
it says i have the latest driver for my gpu
check windows version
you're not on Windows 11 22H2 are you?
if so rollback that update. There's currently issues with that one for NVIDIA users
how do i see what version im on
i am on windows 11
oh i have 21h2
the funny thing is that the game was running smoothly on thursday and then on friday it started doing this and i have no idea why
im gonna guess they updated the game and that made my game run like this
thanks for the help though
Psu i am looking to get for when i upgrade to a 4080 or 4090
How much did your soul go for 😆
Who's to say i have a soul in the first place to sell lol
was there not news about one of Asus power supplies that even though it supported the 12 pin it was limited. Might want to double check it is fully compatible before buying that
Dlss3 sold me on the rtx 40 series
what I've seen of DLSS 3.0 since Nvidia announced it is people tearing down the video footage and finding out there is major loss in detail
Xbox PC app games doesn't show in Discord game activity, is it just me?
anyone wanna play fortnite oceania
Latency issues too
It's best frame interpretation in the market inside the best game upscaler awesome tech
Guys
How can I get free forza 5 ?
You don’t. Unless you get it as a present or something, you have to either pay for the game or pay for Game Pass to play it.

u talking about horizon 5 or motorsport 5?
Horizon
then either buy it or get game pass
Sometimes there are another option 😅
thats illegal rule 12
What will happen if I do ?
ask a mod
Possibly you can get put in jail
🦆
No talking about that sort of thing here.
Its against the ToS and can get your account banned

anyone on oce dtp fortnite
any idea how long this evaluation mode stays before it determines if I need the feature or not?
I see techpowerup have Zen 4 CPU reviews live
Interesting the 5800X 3D seems to outperform them on some benchmark results in games. Looks like a big improvement for productivity tasks. 95c is a bit concerning though. Not sure if it would be worth it for a gaming only setup considering how expensive DDR5 is and how it isn't making any difference in games besides Spiderman so far.
rlcs
95c is still operating within the thermal threshold though so should be fine and that is under a specific load I believe. Gaming the 7700X for example tops out at around 76c while maintaining 5.5GHz
the 5000 3D series are worse in productivity
but better in gaming
.
from what I remember not all games benefit from the additional cache the 5800X3D has and in those games I believe that CPU will perform equal to or worse (with how locked down it is) than a 5800X and from there the 7700X should take a solid lead
game perform better if they utilize cache, but the CPU itself is harder to be overclocked
tbh if the 5800X3D wasn't meant to be overclocked motherboard partners should have respected that as it is highly likely any overclocking will void warranties and may have an unintended result on those CPUs. Zen 3 was already clocked pretty close to it's max capabilities out of the box. Any gains people were getting would have been along the lines of scraping the barrel type stuff. All core OCs for instance. May get a slightly higher clock speed across all cores but that may then lead to a hotter running CPU and in some instances I've noticed less performance than stock (going back to my point on unintended results)
I remember AMD were bigging up PBO2 with curve optimizer and since then I feel it hasn't done a great deal. It is a lot to mess around with for slightly better results when there may be stability issues, as I've found out when setting it too high following some YouTube guides on it. Doesn't always play nice with every program and even idle CO can lead to stability issues so again, I'd rather leave my CPU completely stock. At least I know it will be operating as AMD intended it to from the factory
it's not "meant"
it's literally just practically impossible to
it made normal Zen3 overclocking look like night and day
I'm still confused as to what's up with that die lid
lol, same. First time I saw it, it looked odd and still does. Interesting to see direct die is a thing for Ryzen CPUs now though. IIRC AM4 IHS made it very difficult to get it off without damaging the die(s)
So wait for ryzen 7000 3d
for games that favour the additional cache? sure otherwise you aren't really missing much
I kinda want a new build for the 4090 that i am buying myself for Christmas
I mostly just use my pc for 4k AAA gaming and maybe watching youtube
if I go through with a whole PC upgrade I'm expecting it to cost around £2000. Will be pretty content I think going for the 7700X, 32GB DDR5 5200MHz, 2TB gen 5 M.2 SSD and a 7800 XT. Of course I'm waiting to see how the 7800 XT turns out first but I may yet go for Zen 4 sooner than I said I would
The 4090 alone is going to set me back around $3000-$4000 aud depending on aib
Thats past my budget maybe next black friday
I'm finding my 3080 is still going well, hope it can last another 4 years before doing a rebuild. Maybe prices will be more reasonable by then at the upper midrange or at least one can hope.
I got only a 2gb gpu. My upgrade is between a 4gig to 8gb gpu. Maybe later this year
Yeah 2GB is really a struggle going to 8GB should be good for a while
I get the feeling Nvidia will go for 10GB with the 4070 and similar performance to a 3080 and for probably the same cost as a 3080 today
Anyone wanna play just cause 3 multi-player with me
I could play spiderman at 1080p between high 20 to mid 30s with fsr. My friend is getting a 3050. Installing his old 1660ti on his kids pc and giving me his kid old 1650
Yeah 4GB card will let you play most games for the time being mostly with 1650
My pc is a 7 year hand me down from my younger bro. If u ever decides to get a new gpu, i will get his rx580 8gb
Think this may be popular

Looks kinda futuristic
this reminds me of an alpha I tested early this year, for a different publisher. Similar sort of concept and thematic, but set in an established AAA shooter franchise
yo has anyone had this bug where is says somthing went wrong with your party please try again later on xbox game bar?
DLSS 3 sounds kinda like motion smoothing on TVs imo and not like what we know as DLSS
lord please let it not be coming. I don't want it until the stuff is fixed
I already updated. No problems I have come across on my end and that was with both an existing install and fresh install
There is a stable driver now for Nvidia, was having issues before that
Unless direct storage has some large improvement on 11 I'll be staying on 10 until it's out of support. Nice and stable 3 years left
directstorage is still to be implemented on any game I believe so no one, besides the devs of the upcoming games that are said to implement it will know and even then windows 10 does still have limited support for directstorage. No idea what that will mean either until we see just how limited it is
Yup it is a wait and see thing.
You have AMD
So it’d be a nonissue for you anyway
Help
I downloaded Xbox app on my pc

Which one
Read the message I sent you.
deciding if i should buy ffvii, xp12 or msfs, really hard choice, anyone got input?
how big of a FF7 fan are you
liked the demo, but i really like 15, xenoblade chronicles and action jrpgs in general
7 is a great game but the game is split into 3 parts you have to buy over the next few years, if you dont mind that, you can play it
part 2 comes out practically in 2024
7 is a great game the port on pc didnt give it enough options
yeah but sony has exclusivity for at least a year
don't look at the most played game on my steam profile
my most played game on steam is elder scrolls online and i dont even know why i play it so much
i mostly play pc ports sony ports on pc. fallout 4 new vegas and persona 4golden on pc and soul hackers 2
and is ffvii hard? the remake that is
if u put it to most difficult on the get go then yes
or if you do the summons
theres a npc who will give you secret boss fights that grant you a summon
i know that one hard as bleep
the intergrade dlc was kinda hard. I died a few times
u put any skin mods in?
i would say FF7 remake does a good job at making you competent at the game before you have to fight anything too difficult
basically its not elden ring difficult or dark souls-like difficult
i have found that the first boss fight in any game is always the hardest, you dont know anything and dont have many tools (looking at the first Skyrim dungeon), that was hella hard, but the last dragon was just really grindy
its basically stagger is ur best friend
the game should take around 30 or 35 hours if you do main quest and 50 to 60 if you wanna complete it all
@full creek what is xp12?
x-plane 12
i believe ff7 remake is like 20 bucks off on epic atm
kinguin exists and its saleprice for a steam key
played the demo and had it from library on ps4
yeah i played it once on ps4 then on ps5
i dont have the room for a ps along with xbox series x and pc. barely have enough room to place my keyboard, mouse and headset lol
true. series s is small but its barely better than the one x
true, i just wanted something to play on the xbox ecosystem. if I want power I can just play on my rtx 3070 anyway
i need a gpu upgrade to play god of war.
i have xss, but just for ssd speeds
i run a z-87a mobo, i5-4670k 3.4 ghz, 16gig ram and rx 560 2gb
none of the newer gen systems have been put to a test yet. its all mostly cross gen
flight simulator is a test, and that one the XSS handled
i could run spiderman cyberpunk and horizon zero dawn with fsr around 1080p 30-40s fps
i run a 3070 based laptop
PC parts are getting cheaper again which is great
nvidia actually thought GPU prices would remain that high forever and are trying to price the 4000 series way up there
im going up to 1660ti for upgrade
im going AMD next 2 or 3 GPU cycles
dont care 4 4k on pc since my xbox can do 4k plus everything else on my pc is at least 7 years old
dynamic res goes a long way
i could play god of war windowed not full screen. the gpu upgrade will allow me to play at full screen
native 4k is insanely hard to pull off even on RTX 3000 series if its a newer game
i have a 4k144hz hdmi 2.1 monitor with hdr400
@golden mason same with me on series x
like a lot of games offer native 4k on the newer consoles but choosing performance mode is way better and barely looks that much different
yeah
is dlss like fsr or do u need a 20 series to have dlss?
im going to comic con nyc 2022 next week guys
so 20 series and above
yea
yeah gotham knights, cod and persona 5 royal
ye
awesome! i get back home after 6 months in october. I hope gotham knight has crossplay
i pre ordered COD in april
cod beta sucks on xbox. kept crashing on me after installing demonware screen
i heard it sucked on pretty much anything as far as crashing goes
i didnt have problems but i genuinely just got lucky
all I played was ground war
i love playing ground war and sniping people
after 5 times. i uninstalled the damn game. lets hope installation isnt like 300 gigs on release
im betting on 250
with warzone 2 installed. 120 or 130 if its just the campaign and MP
not on my series x it isnt
Did the game size got revealed?
warzone 2 optimized for next gen or last gen version. i think it will be on last gen since not everyone migrated over to next gen consoles yet
it will be a long time until people do and its not even their fault
later guys bed need to wake up at 530 in the morning tomorrow here in nyc
gn
I upgraded to windows 11 pro and I must say it is Really good
In terms of gaming there is no difference unless very specific titles like CSGO do better in 10. Other than that not really a fan of the changes made with the start menu, task bar, context menu and pushing of always using a Microsoft account.
The only thing I do like is the overall UI of 11 does look nicer than 10
I really doubt that win11 will be a requirement for games any time soon
for as long as windows 10 remains a supported OS it won't be. Windows 10 support is said to end by October 2025
And by 2025 good chance we have a windows 12 released by then and we can jump straight over like many people did with 7 to 10
How do I fix my audio on xbox (windows) but on discord I sound fine
I agree
Anyone know why they didn't make DayZ available on Game Pass for PC?
That's more a question for devs of dayz
Anyone know if a z-87a motherboard with a i5-4670k 3.4 ghz and a 2060 can give me 60fps at low settings 1080p
As well as 16 gb ram
Yes it can probably give out a bit more honestly
Mostly use pc for sony ported games and games not on xbox
What are you attempting to run?
God of war and uncharted when it drops. I will get a new psu
I dont know much abt pcs but i dont doubt you cant run those games
Will the bottleneck be bad
If anything ask the ps server
IDK. I used to have that CPU, and it was nearly maxed out in some games I tried to play, even at 1080p. That said, I had a lower-end GPU at the time.
Example of a game running my cores at over 90% was AC Origin.
U might be able to get 30fps. Depends on how intensive games are
Looks like you will get over 30 fine but 60 won’t be possible to maintain on that cpu anymore, 4770K might be able to though if you find one around for cheap. You can see in this video even the 1650 Super will have a bottleneck using a 4C4T i5. 2060 you really want at least a 4770 to make use of it at 1080p.

Hi
I need help
I have installed deathloop by game pass on a new computer but it does not start
GG
Got the motherboard for that baby
Woo shiny
I was going to get a Zen 4 CPU, 7700X to be exact but after seeing the prices of X670/E motherboards I want nothing to do with it. May even skip Zen 4 if B650/E pricing isn't more reasonable. Some people have also been telling me the only Zen 4 CPU worth going for is the 7950X as the others are poor value which doesn't make much sense on my end being only a gamer. I'd be lucky if I see half those cores used the majority of the time
the boards are 300-400
which is normal for boards to be honest
people have just been spoiled by those 150-200 am4 boards
intel boards have been in the 300-400 range for a decade now
i got a really nice strix board for 419
18+2 for power and a billion USBs
hmm not all of them are 300-400. I wouldn't be complaining if they were. Strix-E, Strix top end board is some £600+ which I find absurd pricing and if that wasn't bad enough the Hero in the tier above again is 700+ X570 that cost £500 or so. Really don't know where ASUS have managed to find £200 on a motherboard from. That's some rabbit in a magic hat type thing
hold out for B650E to carry a Strix-E for at most £400, any less and I'm likely getting it, even at that I paid less than £200 for my B550 Strix-E back in December 2020 and that too will have seen it's price near double
My Z490 board was £129 when I bought it and it wasn’t a low end board.
Even if I bought a Z690 now looking at £185 for the current boards at the midrange
skyrim and skyrim anniversary editions are now on gog
I’ll be getting that £2,000 Glacial Board, it’s soooo nice !!!
Bro they needa stop asking for payment options for ultimate 😭
It’s gotta keep the subscription going somehow, that’s how most subscriptions work… If you don’t want to keep paying for it from a card, buy codes from a store or disable recurring billing. 🤷
i have 3 years of gpu. disabled recurring billing
anyone down to play

I need some help for windows 11 users
Is there any way to ask Xbox to add games to the PC availability? As I would really like to play Fable 2 and 3 but with Fable 2 there's no PC port and Fable 3 is non listed and worst yet is a Vista port. With both games I'd like definitive ports of both games with all DLC Included before the Reboot for Fable comes out. But there are no avenues to ask Microsoft about it.
dunno
reboot fable no news since 2 years or so ago
they didnt even release any gameplay trailers nothing. hell i could be in 2023 or later
Yeah and I'm at the last resort of sending an IRL letter to Xbox game studio for the two games. As I'd like to play the games again.
i love the series but i really dont mind the wait
got other games to play over the years
playground games also make horizon series u do realize that right? they are also working making the next expansion plus updates to horizon 5
@livid pivot
Yup.
plus from what i saw fable reboot is very early in development when they released that trailer. i also believe majority of staff was working on horizon 5 at the time
a lot of microsoft stuff was revealed you cant deny that
but we probably wont see it until 2024 or beyond
avowed, state of decay 3, fable reboot, elder scrolls
as well perfect dark
last we say most of them was e3 2019 or 2020 right
considering the whole thing with xbox was like
next 12 months we wont be seeing any of those games anytime soon
im waiting on stalker 2 and starfield
my biggest disappointment was halo infinite
im a halo fanboy but godddamn it...
2 maps in 1 year i believe and no coop so far and splitscreen cancelled
why couldnt they make a firefight mode for halo infinite either
it scares me to think what state the game was before the 1 year delay
like how cyberpunk is before those delays
anyone know how to redeem xbox ult pass without payment options?
u could try buying a gift ward
In other words it seems you can’t use it
well i was assuming he asked that for free trial
I have fable 3 on pc it seems to run fine for me. You could buy a code from Amazon still, they sell it directly https://www.amazon.com/Fable-III-Online-Game-Code/dp/B00AR03O8I?th=1
Question is there a difference between the regular and complete edition of Fable 3?
I don’t think you can get the dlc anymore on PC might be possible on Xbox still, GFWL doesn’t really exist anymore and steam doesn’t have it listed
If you play coop I remember each player needs the same dlc installed in order for it to work
my gamepass ult was just a waste
i couldnt even redeem it
i dont have paypal or credit card, they fr needa take that feature off bruh
they need to take off the feature where you pay for the sub? that's not happening
no i mean like turn the thing off so you dont renew it
theres kids out there without paypal accounts and credit cards
maybe kids should not be subscribing to a service that costs money. that's more of a parent area
if the kid really wants it they can just buy a regular code tbh
I don't even see what all the fuss was about. It is easy enough to cancel the renewal of the game pass ultimate subscription and only reason these things require paypal or a credit/debit card is so that in the event the following month comes around and you haven't cancelled renewal the subscription will auto renew and services continue, uninterrupted
Yeah it’s pretty easy to turn off auto renewal these days. I remember around 2007 you had to call the MS on the phone to turn it off so much better now
who wants one month of pc gamepass i got it from nitro
whats the smallest game but still fun
Saw a sale on ARGB fans on a local site and ngl I might pick up 2 to fill my front (have one rn)
Anyone who uses Xbox controller on pc have this problem too? If so how do you fix it ? I Connect it to the pc but after a while it won’t let me click anything or just keeps going through all the apps in start and not letting me choose shutdown or restart
depending on price I may have just found the motherboard I'm going to buy for my upcoming Zen 4 upgrade. Just hoping the price reveal isn't too harsh. Asus B650E Strix-F. Looks like it packs in almost all the features from the Strix-E just lacking on perhaps a few USBs, a second pcie x16 gen 5 slot (second one is gen 4), a second pcie x4 gen 5 slot (second one is again limited to gen 4) and 1 fan header. Quite excited at the thought of this not costing more than £300
What makes you think it’s related to the controller?
Because it only happens when i use the controller
800$ 3080 ti
You could try updating controller firmware using the xbox accessories app from the MS store see if it makes any difference. It could also be another device is plugged into the the PC causing some kind of driver conflict to occur. Not sure what else it could be.
Hmm could try uninstalling any controller related drivers in Device Manager.
Let's assume I want to get an unactivated version of Windows on an NVMe so I can test to see if everything works. How would I go about doing that? First PC build coming in the future so I'm really inexperienced.
I've tried searching it but it looks like the only thing that appears is cloning the install from a USB, however that works.
Or is it as simple as setting the install location during the actual installation process, if such a thing exists for operating systems?
You can download the ISO and put it onto a USB stick using Rufus or the tool Microsoft provides. If your system isn't yet activated you get a water mark at the bottom of the screen.
There's no difference functionally, right? You can still do everything you can on Home edition, just with a watermark?
Not entirely sure as I have always been activated. I'm sure all that info is online though.
And, if I was to go with Linux, is there a different process with swapping from Linux to Windows in the future or is it the same?
You can download the Linux distro ISO and use Rufus with that in pretty much the same way yeah
If you wanted to then move to windows after you could either do a dual boot setup or wipe your Linux install
Ah, okay. Thanks for the help.
Oh, actually, just remembered one more question for now.
Whenever there's a major hardware change, sometimes your Windows install will be deactivated and need a new code or something, right?
The key is tied to the motherboard so you can reinstall as many times as you like as long as that doesn't change. I've never had a message like that when changing GPUs, CPUs and memory. I think only a motherboard change would trigger it
Huh. How frequently, on average, would a motherboard be changed?
Not often maybe every 5 - 7 years or so when upgrading your CPU on a different platform. At that point it's pretty much a new PC anyway
So the equivalent of a console generation, it seems. Assuming the motherboard is a ROG Strix B-450F Gaming, how long would you estimate that'll last?
You can use the 5800X 3D on that board which is arguably the best CPU for gaming atm so easily another 4 years or so.
Would you take a Ryzen 5 3600?
It's not bad but 5600X is a much better option these days to play the CPU heavy games like Halo Infinite and such with no frame drops
Well, "not bad" on my first build is something I'll accept. Better than a seven-year-old HP Office laptop that can barely run classic Arkham Asylum, that's for sure.
Sure I mean for older games it will be great
And most new ones as well will be fine
Aside from the aforementioned Halo Infinite, any other titles you'd recommend avoiding until I upgrade?
Or, y'know, be wary of.
Spiderman potentially as well from what I saw on the Digital foundry video
The Insomniac one?
yeah it would play fine still but might drop from 60 fps in some cases on 3600
Luckily enough, I have that one on PS4 so I very likely won't be getting it on PC. Still, useful information is useful.
Any others come to mind?
Not off the top of my head. Watching some of the CPU benchmark tests on youtube with that CPU will probably give you some good insight
Anyone you'd recommend for consistent and accurate results?
Hardware unboxed and gamers nexus are usually good
Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus. Alright, I'll take a look at them later this afternoon. I gotta get ready for work so not a lot of time at the moment. Thanks again for the help, Ed.
Sure no problem
Oh, oh, wait, one more question. If I buy all of the necessary components, will I usually have all the cables I need or will I need to get more?
Motherboard box usually has most of the cables needed for IO and Power supply has cables for power connections usually for the basics
So nothing extra needed for, say, a hard drive?
Sata cable for the HDD/SSD is usually included and a screw for M.2 if the board has one. You might want to check if the screw is included though, I think it probably would be
as long as you buy the components new everything that is needed should be in the boxes. Just be sure to read the manuals and you really can't go wrong 🙂
Yeah, I should've expected that.
Fingers crossed I don't screw anything up when the time comes.
Pc gamer here, how do I make it so that I can connect an Xbox controller to it?
Learning as you can see
Do you have Bluetooth or a dongle?
Bluetooth is available yeah
Should be fine let us know if you have any issue
It’s maybe as simple as that
Will do. Thanks again.
make sure bluetooth is up to date and from there I think for bluetooth to recognise an Xbox controller it has to be one of the ones with a 3.5mm headphone jack as they have it built in. I have the choice of wired with USB or wireless with bluetooth on mine
👍🏼 thanks
Windows 10 and 11 have drivers built in. If you plan on using it wirelessly I would recommend using the Xbox adapter
Or, if in doubt, go wired.
will also have to press the link button that is near the USB connection but other than that not a whole to to it
I think it’s very easy on windows 11 tbh. I go to Bluetooth and devices and connect it there
hey stupid question and I have the DLC for fable 3 and I need help getting it set up on pc with the steam port. also the game is on a secondary memory drive.
Ahh okay thank you ! I will try that! Yeah I don’t have anything else other than my key board, mouse, headset but I notice it always happens when I use my controller for a while .
Just had a watch and saw a variety of benchmarks. While I really only care about, like, three of the games they've talked about, they have pretty good FPS counts.
As a PC newbie, I'm content with 60, so...
You can always upgrade down the line to a 5800X 3D or similar on the same motherboard if needed so no problem
True, true...
just watch out for TPM if on Windows 11. I'm not sure if swapping the CPU can trigger it but would suck if so and may require a fresh install though tbf installing a new CPU I'd do that anyway, even if it was one from the same platform

check and make sure refresh rate is set correctly. I've had FH5 show non native refresh rates at times
What are your specs?
my cpu is a ryzen 3 and my gpu is a vega 8
with 8 gb ram
Your IGPU is not very fast so try playing at 720p medium or low settings to see if it’s playable
this is a computer that plays in 4k.
and it says it's too weak for the lowest possible graphics
due to the insanely low vram
I mean it’s a Vega 8 not even dedicated graphics so I’m not sure what recent games you are playing in 4K
its typically road blocks
funny enough i struggle with road blocks when that specific place is using a specific lighting system
Vega 8 definitely is not going to game at 4K. Browse the web, watch videos? sure but definitely not game at 4K without dropping everything to the lowest settings (even then though it may struggle) you will need a dedicated GPU for that and to play at 4K a pretty powerful one at that depending on the games played
Just thought of a new question. When I do inevitably get a new motherboard, is there a way to transfer the key over so I don't have to spend money on an OS again or do I have no say in that kind of matter?
should be digitally linked to your account if you are already on windows 10 or 11 to check this I believe all you got to do is go into windows settings - system - about and from there look for something that says product key and activation and it might look something like this
Does this mean I can take my current license from my laptop and put it on the new build?
I think so, it is linked to your Microsoft account so as long as you log in on that specific account (the same one on your laptop, if you logged on that is) you should be good. Though I don't want to say yes 100%
Some of the licenses are transferable but not all. Windows might prompt you for phone activation if it's used on a new motherboard. You could try it though.
I really hope I can - it'd mean I get all the security features of classic Windows Home and I don't have to spend an extra £89 or however much it is nowadays.
But would it even be a thing to have the same license on two different machines?
Not even two different versions of the same machine, two completely different entities.
On my MS account on the website they are all listed with each license for activation. I have a license for each one, It's one per system as far as I'm aware
In the past I've been able to transfer Windows 7 licenses over to different machines using phone activation so you could try but I wouldn't expect it to work on more than one system per install.
My laptop doesn't even have the setting anyway, so transferring the key from device to device looks a no-go. As long as I can transfer it from an old motherboard to a new motherboard, that's good enough for me.
Found an article on the Forum about it. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-transfer-windows-10-license-from-a-dead-pc/431b13ad-4344-4209-a194-6b1c769bc42d
My laptop's OS is an OEM, so I'll need a new license.
You could still try it, might work anyway but yeah may need a new one
Microsoft says officially that you can't upgrade from 7 to 10 for free anymore but in real practice it still works for free so ya never know lol
Oh, with regards to the OS itself, how's 11 nowadays in comparison to 10?
I don't really like 11 staying on 10 until 2025 probably
I'll look it up.
This video basically goes over what I don't like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pPAHVb594k&t=617s
In terms of gaming it's the same basically
So it's moreso based on preference on aesthetics?
I just don't like the forced MS account and removal of features in the start menu, task bar and file explorer etc. In terms of performance they are pretty much identical
If those things don't bother you then by all means try it out
What kinds of features are removed?
They rebuilt the start menu and task bar so you can't rezise them or move the task bar to the left or right of the screen. The start menu is also not fluid so you can't resize it like in 10. Some other annoying things like the right click menu doesn't show all the options anymore
I mean I could live with it but would rather not when 10 is stable and supported
Yeah, fair.
If I do upgrade to 11, can I downgrade to 10 while it's still supported?
Without a reinstall, I mean.
If you already have 10 installed you can rollback to it after installing 11 within 10 days but that's it
Can you do that as many times as you want or is it a first-time-only thing?
I don't think there is a limit
You could dual boot also if you want to just try them both out
In that case, yeah, I'll just use 10. I have more experience with that one. I can try 11 later on, after all.
@exotic jacinth Is it okay to connect a rear fan with the connector with the bevelled edge and four pins directly to a PSU's PATA port?
I'm literally building it right now and I don't have space on the motherboard for it.
Is it a molex connection to the PSU? If so that's fine but fan speed or anything related to software can't be tracked
I think that's what it's called? I can't send an image here so...
wait never mind different architecture kind of
Guess I gotta get a splitter for the CPU fan port?
Wait, the fan has two connectors. Do I need to plug in both or just one?
One's the weird one and the other's like one of those CPU fans.
There is one dedicated for CPU fan header, there should be others on the board for the 3 or 4 pin case fan connections
I think I've found one? CHA_FAN1
Yeah Chassis fan so for a case fan
Now what about that second connector on the case fan?
This is molex, you can use these for case fans as well if you run out of them on the motherboard
Yeah don't connect them both it's just simply using via power from PSU or Motherboard directly
Phew, okay, thanks. Linus got me this far but I didn't see about a chassis fan port.
Just make sure the CPU fan cable is plugged into the CPU fan header that's the more important one
The case fans when plugged into the motherboard are mainly to monitor speeds
Molex was more commonly used as a connector in older PC hardware. PATA HDDs used Molex, as did optical drives.
These days it is common to not need one at all.
I've used them sometimes when my motherboard ran out of 4 pin connections or if the power supply ran out of sata power cables I could then use an adapter, but probably not needed for most people
I have a PCIE USB hub card that uses one of the molex cables as well for power
No adjustable fan speeds tho
Yeah that and monitoring not possible of course
Don’t remember if it will run on full speed or something in between
My old 2012 build didn't sound loud using some fans via molex, not sure possibly so.
Some fans had a set pwm, or if lucky a little slider to change between modes
The PCIe cable has two 6+2s. Do I need to use both on one card or are they intended to be for separate cards?
6+2 on one cable can be used in a single 8 pin pcie slot on the card if it only has a 6 pin on the card then they other two can be left alone
It has an 8 slot and a 6 slot.
So you need two cables one with an 8 pin or 6+2 breakaway and another with a 6 pin
Power supply should have it included
I can't use the same cable for both slots?
Y'know, since it has two 6+2s.
If needed, my PSU is a Corsair RM750.
If the card needs two pcie power connections one 6 and another 8 that would be two cables then
So instead of using the two 6+2s on the same cable, I use a second cable?
If your gpu looks like that, all of the ports have to be filled
Yeah, but with one cable or two?
It would be 2
I'd just use two cables to be safe
Right, two PCIe cables.
Assuming it looks like the imagine I just uploaded yeah
Actually I see what you mean now where it splits off from one cable. It should be alright either way, that's actually how I've got mine going at the moment.
I'm not getting a picture.
On the monitor, I mean
@exotic jacinth
And, considering that this is a new card, I have to use HDMI. No VGA.
Is the PC otherwise on?
...yes?
Ah ok maybe try unplugging the pcie power and reseating it see if it’s just that
Both or just one?
Just reseat them both maybe they were loose.
They weren't loost.
Assuming the hdmi is plugging into the GPU and not the motherboard?
On your question about having no OS. It will boot automatically into the bios if no OS is detected usually
Meaning I'd then be able to load it from a burned disc?
Or usb
You can with usb or disc yeah but you want to sort this problem out first I think showing no display.
And how do I do that?
Could it be this?
But how? It's flush.
This would be so much easier if I could send pictures...
Reseat the GPU and all cables is a start.
you can upload to an image site like imgur and post the link
So take it all out?
It was enough of a problem getting the damn things in!
Wait. Maybe if I disconnect the hard drive I salvaged from my old rig...?
Just the GPU not everything else atm. Seems like it’s related to that so reseating might help
I’ve had it before where my pcie cable was a bit loose and I got nothing on screen
So just take it out and put it back in, right?
Even though it'll just be put back in the same way?
Yeah just troubleshooting loose connection.
Meaning I've gotta cut this tie...
Yeah don’t cable tie anything till it’s all working lol
How do I take it out?
Okay, it's back in, same as before.
How does that make a difference, though?
As I said it’s just troubleshooting if the connection is loose, not impossible.
If it still doesn’t work you could try using the single PCIE cable with the breakaway as I have setup in mine depending how it is atm if it’s the case power isn’t getting through.
I just heard some clicking. What does that mean.
god
WHY DOESN'T THIS WORK?!
Tried both, doesn't work.
I have no clue what the hell I'm doing and the only people I can ask are on the Internet who can't actually help me physically.
Do you have another GPU around you can use to see if that’s working? I don’t think your cpu has integrated graphics to test that
Hmm tricky to see then if it’s the GPU itself is the problem. Is it brand new or used?
Everything here is new.
I suppose you could try it in the secondary PCIE slot if it has one to see if you get an input on screen that way. Just trying to troubleshoot what I would do in the same situation
Well, aside from a WiFi card and Hard Drive from an older rig.
That's too low. It hits the power supply.
Wait, wait, there's a third.
So CPU fans and everything else running? Does your board come with a post beep speaker? Sometimes those can help diagnose issues.
Literally all of these cables are going into the fan.
I can't put the GPU in that second slot.
Also I hate that I have to really pull to get it out.
And that's WITH my thumb pushing the lever down.
Gpu are indeed sturdy in there
But sturdy to the point where you feel you're going to break the PCB getting it out?!
@exotic jacinth
@latent gate
I’ve had some moments like that. Idk about the PCB as I don’t pull on just the PCB for the gpu
A long beep and two short beeps.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN, NO MEMORY DETECTED
IT'S PLUGGED IN
IT HAS POWER
IT'S NEW
How can it be saying "no memory detected" when the hard drive is LITERALLY ALREADY WIRED UP?!
@exotic jacinth
Wait, is it the hard drive or the RAM sticks?
IT WORKS
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I DID BUT IT WORKS
Ah right maybe just not pushed in all the way
It’s usually stupidly simple stuff like that
First things first, let me change the GPU position. I don't like it too close to all these cables.
You should see the bios screen now when booting. You just need to then use the installer and that’s about it.
Changing the ram timings as well after everything is setup for XMP or DOCP I think it’s called on AMD boards so the speed is correct
But one thing at a time lol
How do I make it boot from Windows on a disc?
DIMM modules not being pushed in all the way is a very common thing that happens, even to people that build often.
Will depend on your motherboard as the UI is different by each brand. Is there like a boot menu you can configure? I assume this is using a usb dvd drive?
Yeah you should be able to just select that and then boot into it.
I haven’t used dvd as an install method in years so I’m not sure how modern motherboards handle it now. Usually if the drive is visible in the bios you just select that and put the disc in and it should boot
It should say in the bios if it’s detected or not as being a disc drive usually or usb
But apparently that was like that since the start?
What would you consider a P3: ST4000DM004-2CV104 (381544 7MB)?
Seems to be the hard drive seagate barracuda? Have you tried rebooting just with the disc in and see if it starts?
If no OS is detected it will move down the boot priority list anyway
Wait, could it be because I'm using a USB DVD drive?
And not, y'know, an internal one?
It should still work I’ve done it that way before
It is, yes.
Well then it should work
I might need a USB, just to be sure.
If you plugged it in after reaching bios maybe it didn’t detect it in time
hey guys i'm trying to find fall guys on game pass, am i stupid
So, if the player is indeed working, wouldn't the light flash?
Probably I mean it would depend on the model I’d imagine?

So i just tried this myself with a usb dvd drive on my older PC and it shows up like this for me
This is X-8 to discord
We have boot
The CPU is idling at 5.6gz
A 16 core processor
What the actual
I could render the next avatar movie with this thing
idling at 5.6GHz. That on the balanced power plan or high performance? That is way too high for idle lol
get 128 bit
128-bit machine 🅱️roke
I'd love to but I don't have adequate work experience yet. Gotta stick with voluntary for a time.
ok
Installing Windows now. How do I know what is and isn't an SSD?
I'm gonna guess, since it's a 500GB NVMe, it'll probably be the one that's 465.8GB?
Screw it, trying that.
It worked and I now have my 4TB hard drive showing up but I can only use 2TB of it. 50MB is associated with the system but the rest, I can't even partition.
You should be able to extend the volume to use the unallocated space?
So when you right click on 4TB Alpha partition not options to extend?
I can shrink and delete but not extend, yes.
You may be able to do it with disk part also using command line https://www.itprotoday.com/windows-78/how-can-i-use-diskpart-extend-volume
If whatever reason there is something blocking it in disk management
change the drive from MBR to GPT
MBR only allows 2tb of an NTFS drive to be usable on a single partition.
Ah yeah good point
Does that mean I have to reformat it and lose all my stuff?
So what do I do?
however. I would recommend doing a complete reformat
Make sure to backup your stuff just incase
So which is it? Format or don't format?
So what do I do?
https://windowsreport.com/convert-mbr-gpt-disk/
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/change-an-mbr-disk-into-a-gpt-disk
but yes. make a backup of the data regardless
that's good to do regardless
This is for a secondary drive right?
is this your boot drive?
if it's your boot drive then you're going to have to reinstall entirely.
did you pull this drive from another system or reuse it?
It's new.
C drive will be the boot drive unless manually changed
Well, it isn't my C.
I'm going to actually suggest trying to troubleshoot in the Microsoft discord.
There's a Microsoft Discord?
there'll be more people able to walk you through the minutia of going through troubleshooting windows-based support.
yep!
it's not official, but they are very helpful.
Thats strange the secondary drive is setup in MBR. Windows should have assigned this as GPT by default for anything over 2TB. You could try to delete the volume manually to convert it but if it is actually the boot drive then this would not be possible.
I'm sure you already know this but deleting system data is a very bad idea.
Yeah, well..sortof
The only situation I could see this happening is if it was pulled from a different system using legacy bios
So how do I move it instead?
window will sometimes create a system partition on secondary drives as well
Yeah and disk part might not clean if that is in the way which is probably why it's failing at that part
Manually removing it might get rid of it. I've done that with EFI partitions before when setting up a dual boot
Is it even possible to move a partition from one drive to another?
no.
you would have to clone the "drive"
meaning the partition would be treated as a drive, and you would have to clone that to the destination drive
Wait, what?
So if I clone it to another drive, can I then delete it from the first drive?
yes. however cloning to another drive means that the destination will be reformatted.
WHY CAN I NEVER WIN IN THESE OUTCOMES?!
the simplest answer is to just manually move files.
It's not really that complicated of a situation
a secondary drive is not going to have system files
system files are only located on a boot drive.
It's probably easier to just backup the stuff on the drive to an external hard drive go ahead and reformat it and convert it to GPT then put everything back on again.
those system created recovery partitions are not system files
And what about (System, Active, Primary)?
Disk 6 is not my boot drive.
a system partition is not a concern here.
you said there was an entire 2tb missing. that's the only concern.
Which means I need to change it to GPT but I can't do that because of a System Reserved partition.
delete the partition on that drive.
Which means I need to clone the partition but that means I need to sacrifice a drive
I can't delete it.
yes, you can lol
You can is diskpart
It's literally grayed!"
I already tried those!
You opened a command prompt...and went to diskpart
Yes.
did you open it as admin?
How am I supposed to open it as an admin through run?
you can also use windows' search.
You can delete it using diskpart as a separate command and then go ahead with the convert after?
Doesn't work.
Virtual Disk Service error:
Clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot,
system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume.
disable pagefile on that drive.
you are selecting the correct disk number, correct?
each partition will be represented by a number
YES.
it does NOT correlate to the drive itself
Whose idea was it to make this so damn complex?!
So a disk number represents a partition and not a drive?
Does this work to remove the recovery partition on that drive?
At a command prompt, type diskpart
At the DISKPART prompt, type select disk 0 (Selects the disk.)
At the DISKPART prompt, type list partition
At the DISKPART prompt, type select partition 4 (Selects the partition.)
At the DISKPART prompt, type delete partition
At the DISKPART prompt, type exit
Try that first and then the clean
No the partition is on the disk
Followed instructions.
Virtual Disk Service error:
Delete is not allowed on the current boot, system, pagefile,
crashdump or hibernation volume.
perform the steps from the boot recovery
What the hell is a boot recovery?!
just manually move the files you're keeping from the drive. personal files and such. game installs can be redownloaded
move the files then reformat the entire disk to GPT
From the drive I want to change?
yes. the one that's only showing 2tb.
I literally have nothing on there but system stuff!
then delete the extra partition from disk management
I CAN'T DELETE A SYSTEM PARTITION!
perform the functions from disk management.
I've already tried that several times. The option's literally gray.
I've already told you.
then use the windows installer tool to do so
¯_(ツ)_/¯
if it's an empty drive no data will be lost.
So reinstall Windows?
no
Then explain in layman's English.
create an installation media and start the process and abort once you've removed the partition.
Installation for what?
Windows
But you just said not to reinstall Windows.
Because you're not.
Then what am I doing?!
I've literally just said it
Download an installation media
start the process until it gets to the drive screen, delete both volumes on that drive, and then abort the process.
But how does that remove the system partition?
Because as I just said in those steps...you delete the volume
The partition which is likely vital to the operation of the computer?
it is not.
You can use diskpart from the windows install disc to delete that partition as well
So the (System, Active, Primary Partition) isn't vital?
But my boot drive is separate.
Your C drive should have an EFI recovery then I don't see how it would be?
turn the system off and remove the secondary drive that's giving issues.
Assuming the OS was installed under UEFI and not legacy bios mode which will use MBR and then setup system recovery. UEFI sets up an EFI partition instead
Is 500GB not enough for the OS install nowadays?!
you can fit an entire installation on a 50gb drive.
Because the HDD was essential to the computer's operation.
I have mine on a 128GB SSD drive on one of my systems
Then how come it wasn't all on the SSD?!
if it was essential it would be the boot drive. if it's not the boot drive then it does not have windows installed on it.
GOD DAMN IT WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO GET THIS RIGHT
Because you're making it more complicated than it needs to be.
I'm literally just following instructions!
Is the boot drive MBR as well or is that an EFI partition?
Lemme boot up the PC again...
show a screenshot of disk management
Meaning I need to upload the image elsewhere again. Why can't I just send it here for the sake of convenience?!
you can post it in #233805809346150400, let me know when you wish to upload it.
Wait. Is my PC stuck in a boot loop now...?
did you unplug the other drive?
good ol' windows update.
I just remembered. I installed AOMEI Partition Manager earlier from those tutorials you sent. Can that move partitions between drives?
Wait, what about this tutorial? https://www.diskpart.com/articles/move-system-reserved-partition-4348.html
That's what I'd stated earlier
you're not "moving" it
you're cloning it
also it requires you to make a windows installation media, which is also what I'd just said
♦Copy everything from the system reserved partition to the newly created partition. You must include the Boot folder, bootmgr and BOOTSECT.BAK.
Also, I can't send images in #233805809346150400.
I said to let me know when you wished to send them
one moment.
you can send images for several minutes.
I guess, but it's not the one I want to fix.
Yep.
Yes, so the simplest fix if disk management won't let you delete it then go through the windows installation media and delete it from there.
It looks like disk 0 was pulled from another system but still contains the EFI.
whatever the version of this screen is.
this is where you'll "Delete" the partitions on disk 1
pay attention to drive space.
since it lists them as Drive[x]Partition[x]
Yeah, it was from my old rig.
OH, I think I get it now.
Yeah try what dark said and see if that works if not then diskpart using command line is the next option within the installer
That's the exact method I use to delete problem partitions
First things first, to clone this system partition.
I know for a fact it works lol.
that's unnecessary
Disk 1's system reserved is just a boot recovery image
it's not vital to the system
You already have an EFI on boot is the main thing
But it's not what I want to use.
Which is...?
Legacy boot is easier to setup a dual boot but modern systems probably best to stick with UEFI.
honestly even now UEFI makes it easier to dual boot.
it just depends on hardware and OS
Especially when you need to upgrade to Windows 11 or 12 (if it exists) in 3 years time or whenever UEFI is "required" as such
