5800X? No. If you are really considering an upgrade with Zen 4 imminent, even with what you said above I'd wait and see what AMD announce for their 8 core Zen 4 CPU in terms of pricing and performance. Otherwise the 5700X would be the better option, if it is cheaper than the 5800X that is

wow, $100 more (than the 5700X) for the 5900X? By all means go for that. Since you are on the AMD platform already a CPU upgrade should be fairly straight forward. All that may be required is a BIOS update that will allow you to use the newer CPU. Though with a 5900X you will want a good cooler, so make sure you got that ready too, if you don't already have one. AMD's stock cooler won't cut it

latest BIOS is still in beta so I'd wait for that to go stable before updating it but if you go 5900X anything from AGESA 1.2.0.0 and newer should support it (I think it was around then anyway). 5700X is newer however and support may have only been added as recent as 5800X3D support, which just so happens to be part of your motherboard's latest non beta BIOS

no need to change motherboard as it should be supported. It may just require updating as I said earlier. Seems you have checked the version that supports Zen 3 so just make sure your motherboard's BIOS version either matches that or is newer and you should be fine. Older? then you want to update it to the latest non beta BIOS

ouch, at least you have Radeon graphics that can help troubleshoot issues should you run into any with your dGPU. Something that is only going to be included with all AMD CPUs from Zen 4. Don't think there will be any more XX00G CPUs from AMD

for some idea how Zen 3 is for cooling my 5600X is being cooled with an Arctic Freezer 34 esports duo and during warmer days where I stay I find my CPU will hit 70c but usually no more than that but for a few games that seem to ignore the fact my CPU is completely stock and tries boosting things as if it is running with PBO enabled surpassing 70c and going as high as 75-80c. the latter being a rare instance with Forza Horizon 5 and the former being a more regular occurrence when playing The Division 2

yeah, FSR on Cyberpunk isn't the best though it is version 1.0. FSR 2.0 should make for quite an improvement bar the potential Nvidia get in the way of the devs and nerf it to favour DLSS - it is an Nvidia feature title and Nvidia do have a past of playing dirty so I wouldn't put something like that past them. Dying Light 2 is another game that needs FSR upgraded to version 2.0 but is also an Nvidia feature title

Nvidia RTX 30 series GPUs support resizeable bar too and on Linux I hear support has been a thing far longer than on Windows. Apparently Nvidia don't want their users to have that free performance boost and limited it to specific games and required the user to flash a vbios to even access it while AMD it was but a supported CPU, motherboard and GPU away and game support where there are performance benefits to be had is greater than that of Nvidia's limited support, while occasionally being improved with newer drivers by AMD

same, have never had it off since getting my hands on the 6800 XT. Even in games where the gain is none or there is a loss (though the latter seems rare). Fingers crossed AMD improve resizeable bar/smart access memory support for those games over time

most of those settings in Radeon Software are kind of useless but you can add them manually and it will give you all the options

i mostly try to cap frames in games that dont let me do it in game without enabling Vsync

also radeon sharpening i usually turn that off and anti lag cus i hear it makes your games stutter but that was a while back

radeon image sharpening should barely impact performance 1-2 fps at most while giving some games a nice visual boost. Though I found enabling it will also sharpen UI elements too so can be a little awkward. Where there is FidelityFX CAS Radeon image sharpening doesn't have to be used (in some instances AMD have it removed from a FidelityFX CAS supported game)

that's down to RIS being applied after all the graphic pipelines and stuff. Games that support CAS have it applied by the devs a stage or so before the UI. Similar to FSR but that is even further back from what I understand

My mind is a bit split with the GPU buying at the moment, seems like 4090 is sure to come in the next month or two but 4080/4070 could be early next year now then we are looking at 4+months territory waiting around which in itself is money wasted if you can't play the games you want.

this is the trend with graphics cards. New generation tends to be able to beat (or at the very least match) previous generation's top end GPU around the mid tier then from there the high end, enthusiast and over the top cards of next gen take things to a whole new level

Try playing in supersampled resolutions above your monitor's native. Then it won't be so much a waste.

I prefer not to have my cards pushed to the brim when playing games, so I'm happy bottlenecking my 3070Ti at 1440p60

the upgrades I make are often major ones. Though my latest monitor upgrade may still put newer hardware to the test. 4K monitor and running with a 6800 XT. Getting between 60-90 FPS in a lot of games, a few where FPS drops below 60 but I've noticed a trend where FPS seems to be around 80. Which has me concerned I'm somehow running into a bottleneck somewhere

I only built my first custom gaming PC back in 2016. Case and power supply remain the only components from then to have stayed the same. Everything else having been upgraded at least once since. On the CPU end went from an Intel i7 6700K to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X in that time and GPU I've gone from a 980 Ti, 1080 Ti, 5700 XT to finally a 6800 XT. Tbf that 5700 XT wasn't really necessary but it sure opened my eyes up to AMD

ahh there is a company that does something called the modmic that I believe attached to any headphone/headset and I think they have a splitter for both the input and output connections. Personally haven't used one myself but have been tempted many a time to buy one so I can still use my headphones and not have to buy a second headset with a decent mic

Really not sure if I'll upgrade to Zen 4. Not like I really need to anyway. Unless I want the latest CPU but it is a whole new platform and as such Intel is also an option though going by Intel's platform history they really don't stick to a platform for too long. AMD stuck by AM4 since 2016 and are likely to do much the same with AM5 and once again I like the idea of investing once into a platform and having it last for years after, even when I upgrade the CPU again and AMD's change to LGA makes that easier than ever. Now CPUs won't go a ride with the CPU coolers when removing them from the system!

also, make sure your GPU driver is up to date so that it makes use of the latest optimizations and features. That way RTX should work, if installed correctly - just don't be expecting miracle performance if on a CPU that is some 10 years old

Im curious: are you using a USB dongle or does your Mobo have BT built in?

If you're using a USB dongle you may need a new one (I had a cheap one that never worked right years ago).

If you're using a built in option, idk.. maybe disable it in the bios and then buy a decent USB dongle as a new adapter?

Not the solution you want Im sure, (always sucks to fork out more cash) but it may be the quickest fix.

Honestly nah. The storage is pretty small, the memory is a bit low and the card will have trouble running some of the games that are out now as well as ones coming out in the coming years. If $500 is your limit, you would probably be better off getting an Xbox.

depending on the hardware you run on your PC you should get a better experience of Horizon Zero Dawn on PC. I mean, PS4 was limited to 30 FPS iirc, PC has unlimited FPS (though I do believe cloth physics is limited to 60 FPS) then there is VRR support with it supporting adaptive sync, g sync and freesync oh and the graphics settings can go higher than what is set on the PS4 version. Lastly, it also supports ultrawide resolutions - All around the PC version is like the definitive edition I'd say and to take some of Playstation's very own wording for the players

The only problem right now is that people don't have a good way to control 6 axis games, so they are all niche by people who buy unusual and excessive hardware. a gamepad is what wins every major phase of game development, and all of the biggest games in the last 20 years were what they are because of the gamepads of the day.

That normally happens to me on my Xbox when it gets unplugged or is not plugged in well. You might not have a very good cord or it’s plugged in at an awkward angle. I don’t think the chords handle being bent at an angle very well. Not too sure though.

I just calculated it and the 6900 XT I ordered is actually cheaper per compute unit than my $399 5700 XT was. Normally, you'd see diminishing returns per dollar at that level. In terms of theoretical performance in FLOPs, the 6900 XT comes out clearly ahead. I never thought I'd say the 6900 XT is better value than the 5700 XT was, but well it is... at least at the $750 price point I got mine at.

Point being: 6900 XT is surprisingly good value, especially for its segment.

Very new to PC gaming and looking at MSI 3060 graphics cards. One has three fans one has two fans. Would two big fans keep cooler easier than three smaller fans? Just looking for input on what might be the better (I prioritize quieter) option. Thanks

should be able to. For the most part I wouldn't worry too much. These specs are mostly a guidance thing. Obviously certain hardware isn't going to run it but if you meet at least the minimum I don't see any issues besides performance maybe being poor compared to recommended and above system specs

the majority of games released today afaik still don't seem to make proper use of multithreading on CPUs so 8 cores is fine. Any more and you are fine. Any less than 4 cores and 8 threads you may run into some issues

they should be but it appears not all games, to this day do. I mean it is 2022 and even consoles are finally using a CPU with multithread cores so I'm surprised to see CPUs sit at around 50% usage or less, which would indicate to me that multithreading is not in use

In 2018 I upgraded from 4C4T i5 to 4C8T i7 and around that time 4 threads alone were becoming obsolete for new games. Now 4C8T will drop below 60fps unless it’s one of the latest i3 cpus. 3600X to me feels like a comfortable minimum for modern games atm

So a few things:

  • for some reason the bungie website cross save checker says I own Forsaken pack, Shadowkeep & Beyond Light (iirc) for Xbox/Windows (either or both) even though I bought them for Steam last season, lol... Definitely got my money's worth there I think.
  • only some aspects of D2 are F2P btw; raids, dungeons, campaigns, certain quests and exotics, Stasis subclass and other subclass unlocks all require paid access afaik

in the event they return from their mute the 5600G really won't do much for gaming. 720p medium settings if lucky and as Tes said above you will have to spend quite a bit to get a decent spec laptop. Anything from £1000+ often times it costs more going for a laptop than a PC so keep that in mind too and specs wise the desktop PC will (most of the time) be more impressive but if space is an issue then I can understand the need/want for a laptop

the MSRP for RTX 3080 was $699 though. This is a considerable increase. One greater than I even expected ($799-849 max) and for 12GB might I add. AMD were doing 12GB for as little as $479 (6700 XT launch price) and 16GB for as little as $579 (6800 launch price) albeit it slower memory

Nvidia have shown their true colours during the chip shortage + cryptoboom that they will sell private and mark up prices absurdly and now when crypto goes bang like it has they are suddenly killing prices like it is black Friday (3090 Ti reportedly reduced by as much as $500, off the launch price for example)

I was playing red dead on the 3070 high settings at 1440p with DLSS and kept above 60 with that, will drop below 60 with ultra though. Still looks great at high.
