there really isn't that much difference between the 12700 and 12700K. Biggest difference is the "K" CPU being able to overclock but it comes in more expensive and while it may reach higher frequencies overclocking just isn't worth it for the most part as it will have the CPU run hotter and you may run into more stability issues overclocked than stock. Better off sticking to stock and that CPU really should be fine for the ultimate ray tracing option. 100-300Mhz a difference is hardly going to be a performance killer, especially if you game at 4K. Even my 5600X could likely rival your 12700 when it comes to CPU head to head benchmarks or be within 5% of it, which again with how demanding 4K is 5% really isn't much. 57 vs 60 fps

I play controller on pc and I recently switched to keyboard and mouse I’m good at turning and moving but aiming is the hard part for me

Try lowering the dpi. The advantage of using a mouse if having full arm control. So for turning you’re moving your whole arm, and fine tuning the aim is adjusting your wrist.

But if you don’t have the space for full arm movements, then it’s just getting used to your mouse sensitivity. Then adjusting the game setting to match your daily use.

if anyone plays Stray on PC it also supports DirectX 12 (set to run in DirectX 11 by default) to enable the use of DirectX12 right click on the game in Steam, select properties and at the bottom of General there is launch options in there you want to type -DX12. Only drawback is ray tracing is enabled by default and will tank performance (as it often does) but there is a way to disable it and performance will return to how it was, maybe even better when running on the newer API. To disable it, open** engine.ini** (found in C:\Users\yourusernamehere\AppData\Local\Hk_project\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor) and paste this at the bottom:

performance tank is just the effect of the ray tracing being enabled. Dropped to 25 FPS in the Dead City but yet applying the tweak I added above shotts it right back to where perforamnce was with DirectX 11 100+ FPS and idk but may even perform better in DirectX 12 than it does DirectX 11 with some hardware configurations

what I don't understand is why devs still support DirectX 11. DirectX 12/Ultimate has been around long enough surely by now to where DirectX 11 can be depreciated, archived whatever people want to call it and gamers can see their newer hardware finally be put to full use without potential issues relating to API conflicts because there have been so many games I have played where if there is more than one API present (DirectX 11 and DirectX 12) DirectX 12 always seems to be unstable while performing better (at least in most instances) than if DirectX 11 was selected

shouldn't be much longer before I get my Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 but wanted a sneak peek of what to expect with gaming at 4K so used VSR, opened Forza Horizon 5 and set the in game resolution to 4K and yeah, 4K is scary. Sure, all the setting were cranked up and don't need to be but to go from 100+ at 1440p to barely passing 80 FPS at 4K on a 6800 XT. Ouch. Granted I could get it closer to 100+ FPS again lowering some settings but no guide shows some of the new settings and their impact

Hours to go now until I receive my Samsung Odyssey Neo G8. Think After a GPU upgrade I'll be targeting 4K 120 FPS in most titles while dropping as few settings as possible. Exceptions being those that tank performance (10%+ drop vs the setting below it) for little to no visual improvement and ray tracing. No way I'll be hitting 60 FPS, let alone 120 FPS while ray tracing is enabled, unless I make use of FSR 1.0/2.0 or DLSS (if I later upgrade to an Nvidia GPU) in games where supported

also, I remember something that I could technically begin to drop anti aliasing settings at 4K. How true is this?

I remember playing Gears 4 at 4K 144Hz and being mesmerised by the detail & quality.

Higher resolutions naturally remove aliasing and pixel shimmer (caused by aliasing), so it is true. 4K naturally looks crisp.

But if you wanna play at higher fps and RT, DLSS will probably be the way to go. DLSS at quality level also cleans up the image possibly better than native res, so maybe you could reduce AA.

RT is hit or miss - play around with it to see which effects you really like, and which ones you can off or lower. I like global illumination RT more than RT shadows, for example.

One thing to note is that you can do AMD FSR on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs. DLSS, DLDSR and DLAA are RTX cards only

With ray tracing, I'm very well aware of what I'd be getting into having tested it at 1440p and it tanking performance horribly then. Expecting no different, if anything only worse at 4K lol. Hoping a GPU upgrade fixes that somewhat. RT reflections is probably my favourite though. I find it is the most noticeable RT setting in the games I have tried it in before

Yeah the reflections are definitely game dependent. A game like Spider-Man will be pretty awesome with RT reflections.

Not sure about forced TAA from DLSS. They're different ways to accomplish cleaner images, but DLSS is about performance whereas TAA (and it's eventual DLAA replacement, that's not widely supported yet) sacrifice performance for image quality. I've heard of a lot of games forcing TAA as the only AA method, though, from the developer's side rather than Nvidia's

The thing with TAA is that produces ghosting + smearing on moving objects, but looks rather good on non-grid like structures in the environment. (A metal grate for example, while stationery, looks more "dithered" than usual with TAA to my eye.... Apparently that shouldn't be the case though, so idk)

What I noticed with the Xbox app is the UWP games and games older than 2019 that are still encrypted for some reason you only get a choice of choosing the drive on install but not the directory specifically, Gears 5 and newer games you can have access to the files and choose a directory using the path set in settings.

The bandwidth required is almost 60Gb while HDMI 2.1 has a max of 48Gb…. So I personally wouldn’t be using it but of course, up to you 😄✨

heh yeah, ran into a picture issue while having color depth set to 12 bit so dropped it back to 10 bit and all seems good though HDMI 2.1 with DSC should technically make it possible to run at that spec, even being 40Gbps of the available 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 natively has. AFAIK no GPU or console supports full 48Gbps HDMI 2.1

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being great and 1 being terrible. It's a solid 9.5 - I seem to have got lucky with my unit. No scanlines like others are reporting and things are very smooth. Might not be reaching 240 FPS in a lot of games at 4K any time soon but I'm still getting the 240Hz refresh rate in other places that I have been used to for the past 2 years or so with my old Odyssey G7 and the 4K resolution is definitely nice, even if very demanding. Only thing that is taking me a bit of time to adjust to is the controls to navigate the monitor's menu. They are squishy up, down, left right and OK buttons while the G7 had a joystick.

btw assembly of the Neo G8 was a breeze. 5 screws in all to put it together though I will say the stand really doesn't do it a great deal of justice. There is some wobble when using the navigation buttons and the actual monitor is pretty heavy, it may cause tilt adjustments to move a little. Would recommend a monitor arm but be sure to do some research into it. Will have to be one that can take the weight of the display

It’s because 60 fps does not divide evenly into 144 so locking it at 72 fps would compensate for this. Usually these high refresh rate monitors use free sync or g sync so you don’t need to use vsync like this though.

I guess you could also change the actual refresh rate in windows or via nvidia/amd software to go down to 60hz but it shouldn’t be necessary unless you want to test something out.

Your monitor doesn’t have free sync then? You would probably need to force vsync then if you get performance issues limiting fps via control panel. Naturally there will be tearing if the frame rate is not synced with the monitor.

You need a monitor with freesync. Freesync isn’t just a gpu feature. It has to be built into the monitor as well

Luckily, freesync is virtually free for manufacturers to implement so monitors with it aren’t all that much more expensive, it at all.
G-sync monitors are a whole nother ball game though due to the differences in how freesync and g-sync work.

the one good thing with Freesync is it doesn't require any hardware modules like Nvidia's GSync does and helps keeps cost of these Freesync monitors down

just glad the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 wasn't a G Sync Ultimate monitor as it would probably cost double what it does. I haven’t had too much issue with HDR on windows when it works it’s more that it’s implementation not great

Some games require you to have it enabled in settings while others will default to hdr when booting up the game regardless of windows settings

Should make it one standard that all devs (and Microsoft) follow where HDR is required to be enabled from windows settings and from there games (and other content) will detect it automatically and I really don't think AutoHDR is necessary. I have that set to off, outside some testing I was doing early on after setting up this monitor but SDR games should stay SDR

Yeah MMOs are usually not newcomer friendly in my experience, especially for latecomers. FF14 is one rare exception I can think of. since the latest insider firmware update last week or so (and even slightly before then), my bt has improved quite a bit. can now seamlessly switch between the bt adapter on my pc and my xb1x using the double-tap/hold home button (clarification: firmware update for the xbox one bt controllers; also had to clear BT profiles on my pc and re-pair everything)

yes, the feature has been available for a while but as everyone here knows, the BT connections have been wonky at best. Countless times I've had to just wipe out any bt pairings on both console and PC to start "fresh" and get 'em to work.

(also to clarify, you double-tap sync button to connect to 1st device, short hold sync to connect to 2nd device, once they're both paired. I mentioned the home button by mistake)

Most of the games on the Microsoft store(Xbox app) have all the files encrypted to the drive unlike steam so I’m wondering if this is why you are not given the option using an external drive. I think if the drive is formatted in NTFS it would give you the option but not EXFAT so you could try this, usually by default this is EXFAT.

Are you using an Xbox controller? Try troubleshooting if this happens using wired or wireless connection if you are using it wireless to start. If it’s not an Xbox controller you usually need to wrap xinput around it.

Whew, Guardians of the Galaxy at ultra settings, maxed ray tracing and locked 60 is pushing my card's power draw near to its max in heavy scenes... At sharpened 1080p, lol. Utilization is minimum 20% / 60% thereabouts (CPU / GPU).

Benchmark pumped out average 120fps, pushing my gpu to its limits

Getting major hitching or stutter in introduction cutscenes (when they're flying into a new map).

Only done the first mission but already accrued like 3-4 hours due to excessive photomode usage and listening to the licensed soundtracks. Lots of great details and features

maxed settings will do that and is expected since the GPU (even at 1080p) will be doing a lot of the work. If Guardians of the Galaxy has a visual of how each setting changes you might want to see if there is some stuff that can be lowered one setting and if it provides a nice increase to performance (10%+) I'd apply it. It's one of my biggest peeves right now that devs add potentially meaningless settings that just tank performance for no obvious visual improvement

I don't really need to do that much to tweak. The hitching is the only real problem and that's probably engine optimization that pc games tend to need. The 3070 Ti is designed to push games at 1440p60 ray tracing, plus I've used DLSS to decrease power draw (though that increases utilization load a bit).

Most of the time it's barely breaking a sweat at 60% load, 150-220W (tdp is 290W), 50-60 deg C, and the CPU is barely used at all, lol. I've rarely seen it go as high as 290W for any game, 99% load or 70 deg C. That only happened in GOTG during a ray traced cutscene

The settings here don't have that many levels/grades to them, and all of them seem to be substantial from one grade to the next. I guess that's a bad thing for tweaks, but it's pretty great for nothing feeling like its superfluous or redundant.

I'm actually kinda miffed that I spent half hour reconnecting my PC to my home theatre (big TV + good old fashioned 5.1 surround sound on an AV amp) and the dialog audio is dropped or severely reduced on the channel(s) it plays through. For both this game and FF7 Remake. The audio set-up works fine on Xbox console. Oh well

SATA SSDs are the minimum these days with NVMe being ideal. HDD are just too slow for boot drives and honestly, besides it being cheap and offering the highest capacity are now behind in the times. SATA SSDs are much quicker but are severely limited in that unless there is an enhanced standard on the way I'd probably just go NVMe and forget about it. You aren't going to get a storage much faster besides the improving tech as time goes on. Soon be be on gen 5 NVMe and it would appear we'll be seeing these SSDs break past 10GB/s. Fastest gen 4 NVMe seem to top out at around 7GB/s. NVMe is also going to benefit from DirectStorage at some point on both Windows 11 and (to some extent) Windows 10

Hi, I'm trying to get into a party chat with my friends through xbox game bar, but the stupid app doesn't even work, on a brand new, fresh install of windows, with all drivers updated to current. Imagine a multi billion dollar company not figuring out how to make a proper working voice chat app. I have to use party chat else my friends have to use their phones for discord, and that's not pleasant.

Normally we would not have this problem, because we're all primarily pc gamers, but just about all of us are on vacation in various places. I'm the only one with a PC currently, so the rest are on xbox.

My problem here, is even accepting the invites. Game bar shows up just fine, but half of the time when i DO get into a party, i get disconnected within 30 seconds. This even happens on my iphone 13 with the xbox app. What the hell even.

as a few have now said here PSU is one component to never cheaper out on. As for recommendations for something good I'd look at the minimum system power requirement your GPU suggests and use that as a guide as to what PSU to buy. So for instance my PC may not use as much power but PowerColor suggests I should be running with an 850W PSU for my 6800 XT Red Devil. From there I'd look for an 850W Seasonic PSU, one that is preferably modular as you only need to connect the cables you will be using and that in turn somewhat helps ease cable management issues

Afaik with more recent updates Microsoft changed the location of the saves and are no longer protected like they were in the past where it required some tweaking to even access the game files. I can get into Forza Horizon 5's files without any access denied popups at least and no tweaks were made. Was able to add mods to Football Manager 22 when I was playing that with no hassle

there isn't one to my knowledge. Nvidia have DLSS but it only works on Nvidia GPUs from RTX 20 series and newer. FSR supports all AMD GPUs and even older Nvidia GPUs and Intel (if they ever release their ARC GPUs) have XeSS, which I know very little about. Think only one game has been released that even supports it. Intel are having a nightmare time with these ARC GPUs. Suggestions made for them to scrap and sell it off already

Could be CPU limitations

Components can only go as fast as each other, if one is struggling, the other will be low utilisation.

So your higher CPU usuage, with lower GPU usage, is indicating at least now, that it’s waiting on CPU.

Some games are also more CPU heavy, some are more GPU heavy.

try disabling DLSS. Framerate is going to take a hit but you will be at native 1440p instead of DLSS quality downscaling it internally to whatever resolution. See if that increases GPU usage while also lowering CPU usage

as I said, try it without ray tracing. That will be lowering performance by quite a bit and while you'd be expecting it to run 100% GPU that might be what is preventing it. You will regain performance making GPU work harder (CPU too mind you)

if you disabled ray tracing that would be a big reason why. DLSS is there to partly cushion the performance loss from ray tracing but at times with certain hardware it may not even be enough without significant image quality loss

yes but at this time it appears to be broken as I mentioned earlier. Ambient Oclussion doesn't appear to be applying with HBAO+. It should be higher quality than SSAO while hitting a fair bit heavier

only thing I can think of it being may be related to VRAM limitation. 3060 Ti has 8GB and you are gaming at 1440p maxed. At 4K my 6800 XT and AMD Software's metrics overlay was reporting nearly 12GB VRAM in use. Now, I know that is not 1440p but I 'm pretty sure without doing some overly complicated math 1440p at maxed settings would still exceed 8GB (if it could) and often times exceeding VRAM limits is a bad thing as it will lower performance and may even cause issues with stability too. On DirectX games there is a way it can soften that impact by using much slower RAM, if available hence why you may see RAM usage go up when 8GB VRAM is in use but I believe with Vulkan and OpenGL there is no safeguard like this so games will often just crash to desktop. Luckily Vulkan stuff doesn't apply here but thought you'd want to be aware in case you run into that exact issue on Vulkan supported games

I was watching the video on DF about this, there is a lot of CPU resource used on this game to mitigate the fast storage API being missing on the PC version and when testing with 3600X Alex B was seeing frame dips below 60 in certain areas due to cpu usage. Watching that video might help with optimising settings.

Cyberpunk wasn't a port that's the main difference. Spiderman was made to make use of fast storage API which will have more of a performance cost in the conversion

I'm at work atm so won't be able to unfortunately but what I would suggest is try to identify the bottleneck and then change your settings around that. What it seems like is the 3600x causing it but possible something else, just have to tweak it. Turn ray tracing off entirely should have a big improvement.

Or Doom eternal for that matter, can get 60FPS on even a sandy bridge i7 2600K easy.

Spiderman Remastered has likely been optimized for systems with 8+ cores since both the PS4 and PS5 have a CPU with that many cores, only difference the latter also supports multithreading and if going off that info it would make Intel and AMD's 8 core CPUs the ideal option for this game

I am trying to push 4K as far as I can. Obviously a CPU upgrade isn't going to do much on its own, that's where the GPU comes in but going 8 cores and with a much faster CPU will pair nicely with an even faster GPU.
