I felt like it was a drought but we're even getting persona now, pretty good.

Square Enix, the chief of (J)RPGs, is still heavily favouring other consoles even with international releases, but Persona from Atlus is better than nothing I guess.

I'm getting a bit worn out with the liberally-applied genre labels, narrative obtuseness, various anime tropes and excessive sequels/remakes/re-releases of JRPGs, amongst other things, so I guess the amount of JRPGs on Xbox doesn't really affect me that much.

I'm beating the ones I got for Switch in the last year or so then moving onto newer ones like Tales of Arise in 2023 (these content heavy games I spread out with long breaks between sessions).

Is >50% of the 110M+ PS4 user base not good enough? Apparently not. (And that's also laced with implicit assumptions too). 50M is still too big to be dismissed easily.

Is Xbox Series selling well in JP? Yes, relatively. Keyword. But that has little bearing on the present for worldwide existence of XB1.

Do I fault Capcom for heavily favouring their own market (JP) in this decision, where PS4 would clearly dominate the final decision? No.

In order to attack, you need a pip in your AP Gauge present. With the bar full, you can get a couple of blows in and perhaps wipe out an enemy's entire health bar. However, the AP Gauge depletes so quickly that it's impossible to get into any sort of rhythm. You'll have to retreat over and over again, simply running around the battlefield and avoiding damage while the meter refills. It's a rubbish system that leaves an awful first impression. The bar will likely grow as you push further into the game, but we can only judge what's put in front of us. The early hours of The Divine Force appear to be a chore in simply attacking and running away. That's not the sort of impression you want to give players when they're starting out.

the game breaks apart progression to force you to grind repetitive open world encounters

"Just did this last main story mission? Well in order to progress it to the next gotta go do 10 encounters of this thing that requires you to fight repetitive thug encounters and interrogate them"

a lot of the game is padding

and it makes the exact same design choices Avengers and Anthem made that were heavily panned

the difference being there's no cash shop this time and it's just pay-once game

the loot and crafting mechanics are very much half-baked in as resources are basically everflowing, but gear's stats are inconsistent.

it feels like it was originally going to be a live service of the same model but they changed it late in the game due to how Avengers and similarly structured games were received.

game itself isn't wholly without merit, primarily the story itself

gameplay needed a lot more work though

and it's full of technical issues.

even Olie from digital foundry said it's a decidedly last/cross gen game technically

Ralph aka SkillUp gave it a soft "do not recommend", since yeah. some people will like it, but it's definitely not going to be considered a game that's good by many

Just bundle (pricewise) a version of the game with the box, at time of purchase. No need to actually put the game inside it (which would necessitate different SKUs). So far there's no hint of doing that and the box is only sold through the merch site. Other retailers I used to work for have done this with no more issues other than unexpected customer stupidity and interloping crime
