oh
I think flight simulator was on steam?
But it is a weird request. Like just search Microsoft in your steam client if you want, or just go straight to the source and get your Microsoft games from Microsoft lol
Age of empires ig
Xbox exclusives
It's like a pc microsfot exclusive it might be on console not sure
.
Fh5
Xbox Microsoft it's the same
oh ok
I literally don’t know what you’re asking lmao
Like Microsoft games that are on steam
That are good
this more simple
Sure just search Microsoft on steam client. Probably halo flight sim and solitaire lol. But why do you want them on steam? If you get your game through Microsoft you will be pretty much gaurantees that “play anywhere” and cloud saves and all that stuff work
Not sure
Preference for pc players
They like steam a lot though you can just add other games to steam
Like I think you can just add the xbox games to launch from steam not sure though
You can. I do it with almost every game I do play on PC.
Nice
keep in mind, some Xbox titles weren't published by Xbox on steam
and many more are avaliable on PC, but not on Steam
When is the new flight sim coming out ?
you will have to wait till June. this is when Xbox have their shows will know more then
May 21st is when Hellblade 2 comes out.. most the other games they showed only had the year and no date. so that will also be a big update for June.
avowed is planned to release in the Fall
Townborne, Indiana Jones are two others planned for this year. I pressume Indiana Jones will release around November, Avowed in October, and Townborne is a summer release
it has to be the first month
Scam.
nobody click that
using our context clues, we can assume that it was
- a link you shouldn't click on
- nothign to worry about because it is gone
Ok I just pinged tho I thought someone messaged me on here I saw the red plus 1 in this server so I was just wondering
I'm good
They should make a peggle 3
No.
that breaks tos

if a game says xbox exclusive it is only on xbox same goes for ps and pc
that was so long ago
yea i just realized that mb lol
any actual xbox employees in here???
many
well to the employees were the f is the no mans sky update its nit on hello games that it hasn't been released its on you guys there been multiple things messing up ever since the lay offs and as a nearly 20 year xbox gamer im apauled at the customer service the treatment of players and the general uncaring nature use are all taking with you community that is all not going anywhere yet but I want to let youse k ow how disappointed I am I defend your company publicly all the time but I cant defend this
cool, i'm sure that will get something accomplished
this is why many employees of companies choose not to identify themselves on discord
probably won't get solved but atleast they can see it
this is what discord was meant for if they don't like it they shouldn't be game developers
no man's sky is not a microsoft game studio game, and isn't relevant to this channel
no mans sky isn't the only game involved and it is on xbox so therefore belongs in any chat related to xbox games
As tact pointed out, this isn't the place for this. If an update for a game isn't out yet, that's on the developer and not Xbox. Discord also isn't a platform where you are owed answers from anyone either

hi
Yo
#general-chat is for casual discussion
In Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice we set out to tell the story of a Celtic Warrior and her quest to save the soul of her lover – a quest that was both physical and mental, as an exploration of Senua’s experiences of psychosis. On embarking on the development of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, we knew it would […]
give PS forza horizon 5 and flight sim
no
only 4 games are being put on other consoles. no plans for any other game on other consoles until phil tells us. but very doubtful if thats gonna pass anyways
It’s not worthy of having those games
Ps
which is why i may buy a series X
so i can enjoy amazing story exclusives and them 2 games
I suggest we go to Xbox Game Studios HQ and ask them very politely to enable online multiplayer for Conker Live and Reloaded once again 🫡
or it would be Rare HQ?
neither would work
I know 😮💨
Why not just make sure Getting Medieval is made
Or better yet, produce the Other Bad Fur Day
Guys, I bought a package, and in the package came GTA story mode (xbox one) and online mode (series X|S), I'm confused about this
Are they kind of like the Xbox One version only comes with story mode and without online, and the Series S version only comes with online and without story mode?
I'm pretty sure they both have online and story, but I don't know for sure.
GTA V for Xbox One includes online.
GTA Online for Series S|X you’ll have to double check, it might include the Story Mode or it might not. It should say in the package description.
Ok
I think is be like two different games, one is just gta online(series s) and the story mode is another game gta v(xbox one)
Sort of. The Xbox One version includes an online portion as well, though.
Just like how Online (Series X|S) can include story mode if you buy it or if it’s included.
Will Xbox one day make a game like PlayStation?
Yes
had to really read that question for a moment
my guess is Perfect Dark could be the game of that mold
I'm not actually sure what they mean by the question, because Xbox does have games that are similar in style to some of the PlayStation exclusives. They aren't necessarily all Xbox exclusives either (things like Tomb Raider, for example), but they do exist.
Unless they mean games where 90% of the gameplay is just QTEs, then yeah no, not a wide selection of games like that.
I'm taking on the thought process of having a massive title of development like stuff from their major studios
something like God of War
Hmm.
or Uncharted
Maybe Spider-Man. When you play on Playstation, titles from these developers generate a lot of hype.
The best term I can use for games like these are "narrative adventures", or giving meaning to the publishing label of "interactive entertainment"
so what's a game that I feel would have the most compelling narrative experience. Perfect Dark
either that, or OD
There's Hellblade.
👍 ^^ this
true.
I still have to play the original.
And if Hellblade 2 proves itself as a name of fame, that'll settle
I looked up Ninja Theory's resume. Pretty interesting
Studio made some interesting titles during the 6th and 7th generations. Kung Fu Chaos for the Xbox, followed by Heavenly Sword for PS3 and DmC for 360 and PS3
After that, the studio worked on support work for Disney Infinity, before working on a few VR projects (even after the buyout, there were releasing some on Oculus)
Last game release was a Series X port of Hellblade, and... Bleeding Edge (Overwatch clone).
Studio has two upcoming projects: Project Mara and Hellblade 2
If Blade will be the game I assume for it to be, wouldn't be surprised if NT did support work, considering experience working on HS and DmC
the first person shooter? im a little confused
I'm thinking the game will be a third person like Uncharted
weird sudden direction change
I'm not sure why people are complaining that HB2 will have a quality mode and performance mode
Because they complain about everything.
Exactly I love ninja theory they are so talented it's just unfair
For years they whined that graphics weren't good enough or worlds weren't big enough. Now they have stunning graphics and huge worlds, but hardware can't handle higher frame rates with those things, so they now whine that games are 30fps when consoles advertise 120.
The game looks so beautiful and carefully made with ton of attention.
Hellblade 2 is likely to be one of the best looking games we've seen - ever.
I understand why some people might complain about having only 30 fps option (like starfield), but the game literally offers two different options. (Edit: turns out there's no performance mode.)
Anyways I just think when people see the Xbox logo they just assume the game is trash and start spreading hate.
Yeah the visuals are insane. Every time I feel like we've reached some kind of ceiling, another game comes out that says, "Nah, we haven't."
Really makes me wonder just how much further we can actually take this.
The issue now is animation. You can make a game look super realistic, but if things don't animate and move properly, you're right back in uncanny valley.
Mocap definitely helps, but facial animation is where things break down in so many games. But thankfully Hellblade has full facial animation too.
Yeah for sure. I feel like...really the last few hurdles that we have in terms of visual fidelity is animations, as you said, and then...what...lighting?
Lighting is already really good, but beyond resolution, the easiest difference to notice about how games have evolved over time is the lighting, and it can make such a humongous difference, even if the resolution isn't as high.
Like that one screenshot I sent earlier from Ark. At a distance it looks almost real because of the lighting and things blocking said lighting.
Wonder what type of lit environments Hellblade 2 is gunna show off.
Yeah, lighting has a ways to go. Ray and path tracing make such a huge difference when done properly, but it tanks performance hard so it's not a viable solution outside of the top end PC rigs. Even then, without DLSS etc, the performance trade off often isn't worth it.
Yeah big facts.
Personally, I think raster lighting tech has progressed to the point that we can literally fake lighting till it looks good. Ray tracing can and does look really good, but until RTX 30xx series levels of GPU power becomes basically commonplace everywhere, it's probably a lot easier to fake the look of realistic lighting with the tricks we've been using for years
Makes sense.
Why can't we just change the resolution to get more frames?
big "why not make the whole plane out of black box" energy 😄
cause how the game is optimized on consoles. u could probably get more frames if u change resolution on pc. plus hellblade 2 is mostly geared for cinematic over anything else
I already knew the answer. Console sucks. I just couldn't say it.
Any updates on the new Fable?
Wait til june xbox showcase
@empty thorn got it. Thanks. I’m a new XSX owner, haven’t played games in about 10 years but I had the one and loved the original.
Been playing Evil West so far as my first game, enjoying it
I'm excited for the new fable, honestly I wish they just build upon the original trilogy instead of making smt entirely different.
honestly I wish lionhead studios were the ones making it but I still trust playground games talent and experience in open world games, but I hope they manage to nail what made fable games enjoyable.
Lionhead close up shop years ago
do you know why Lionhead closed? They were making a live service Fable game, and it sucked
I know that.
Well yeah but I mean shutting down the whole studio who created the franchise and knows it best just to announce a new fable game developed by a whole other studio later on was kinda weird (from Xbox side)
Though I didn't know about fable "live service" game
yeah, it happens
projects take a lot of funding, and for Microsoft this was something where it was the best move at the time. Around the same time Scalebound was cancelled (since PG took a lot of money for Microsoft on the project but was using their money to fund other projects like Nier Automata and God knows what else. Studio was also inexperienced with Unreal 4, and Xbox wanted a release. PG said no, and they barely had a team, so the project was cancelled)
Well I never really understood the reason that forced them to focus on funding third party studios instead of cultivating their first party studios.
I think Xbox during the One period was a bit of a disaster during that first half
They ended up having to lost a bunch of studios between 2010 and 2016 at that point
They had good exclusives and funding, but the previous Xbox management was pretty terrible
I personally had Xbox one and PS4, I didn't use my Xbox that much until Xbox one S released and even then It wasn't my main console.
they had a few in house, but a lot of their titles were externally published (Moon Studios, Remedy, Insomniac, Crytek, Capcom). Company didn't have a major focus on third party exclusives like they did for 360 (tbf, most of what PlayStation 4 did for Third party they played smart on. Mostly japanese publishers)
A lot of their internal teams they lost were mainly XBLA dev teams, developers for Kinect software, etc.
God, I just remembered. The Phantom Dust remake. So Microsoft reformed their Japanese studio, and had to close it because it wouldn't come out
on top of that, their internal teams were hitting some rough patches. Microsoft Vancouver (before Coaltion) could not get a game out until they got the rights to Gears in 2014
However I'm liking the direction that Xbox is taking this generation, they are focusing on getting japanese developers on XBOX, and they are also focusing on exclusives which for me is a main selling point.
And generally the Xbox ecosystem is way better this generation.
yeah I noticed. There was getting Atlus games on Xbox, Like a Dragon, Dragon Quest, FF (and more from Square Enix), Kingdom Hearts
I fully agree
Better than most of the competitors.
not wrong
I would say in certain aspects Sony is failing. Mainly because it was a really dumb idea to invest in GaaS the way they did
Nintendo I won't speak on. They cleaned themselves up with Switch
Establishing a partnership with square enix and Sega was the best thing they did to attract japanese game developers.
And because of Sony, they are facing much larger layoffs than they could of avoided if stuff like Last of Us online was outsourced, and London didn't focus on a live service game
and Konami (kinda)
though Konami's partnership feels stronger with PlayStation, knowing the history
btw, I just remembered a game that was cancelled. It was an Obisidian Entertainment game for Xbox One as a launch title
Jim rayan leading playstation was probably the worst thing that could've ever happened.
Most of ps5 games are remasters and remakes of already good looking games.
Until dawn remake? Totally not needed, the last of us 2 remaster? Totally not needed, the last of us one remake? Totally not needed
7 of which are not cross gen on PS5
The only 4 major exclusives are horizon forbidden west, gowr, spiderman 2, rachet and clank
kinda. The remake of One gave the studio a chance to port the game to PC (trust me, porting a 10 year old PS3 built title to PC from ND engine is a bad idea)
Demon's souls, Miles Morales, Returnal, Helldivers 2, Sackboy
(that if we are talking about first party exclusives, since most of third party exclusives are temporary)
Gran Turismo 7
we pretty much are. Even then, the PS5 lineup of games is phenominal. But I can get the sourness people have for the 2024 and beyond slate
That being 2024 is "lacking" on any core exclusives (mostly second party releases, and Concord)
2024 in general is a bit of a drought year for MOST developers and projects. But rest assured: 2025 for Playstation is lined up to be the very best year for the brand
Well the problem is that it will last till Q2 2025.
What games are they planning to release other than wolverine?
don't be so certain about that. They limit it mainly to AAA titles, but it doesn't mean that a game could end up in Q1 or Q2 of 2025, or you get a AA title to care about
I don't see spiderman or gow getting any major sequel anytime soon.
don't go by what is known outside of Concord and Fairgame$. Instead, reflect more on the studios and guessing a timetable for each of their projects
one of the biggest titles I make a guess on releasing in 2025 (forgot to mention Death Stranding 2 is a 2025 release) is the next game from Sucker Punch. At that point, it'll have a 5 year development cycle, and it's more than likely a GoT2, but I'm not going to say it's straight up GoT2 since they could have done a new IP
NaughtyDog and a ton of other studios also could plan reveals later this year.
Keep an eye on Santa Monica, since they actually have two projects in development, one of which is directed by Barlog, and that went in full production around 2022
Well it's about when will all of this arrive.
Insomniac always have multiple projects in development
If we look in Xbox side they have literally every major studio we ever known
Pretty much. I would say for most of them it's between 2025 and 2026.
It's about when not how many.
Hopefully!
2024 admittedly will be the big year for Xbox compared to PlayStation and Nintendo. But I don't know about their 2025 lineup, same for Nintendo. I have guesses but they are a bit wild
Very big year if they manage to nail every first party game.
stuff I predicted for 2025 included Clockwork Revolution, Gears 6/Coalition project, Fable, new Mario game from EPD 8, Metroid Prime 4
Gears 6?
I have to play catchup with my Xbox and PlayStation library
I dunno. Hirings hinted at them doing Gears 6 since they wre hiring verterans of the series. But nothing super concrete
So we kinda just say it's Gears 6. And Coaltion is the chief developer for anything in Unreal
Pretty much a position for studios like 343 and Turn 10. They both specifically work on Halo and Forza Motorsport
Unless Coaltion delves away from Gears and does a new ip
I see
Can't wait to play Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones The Great Circle. they both look pretty dope.
But anyway, sorry for straying from the channel's main purpose.
looks like this is expected to run for around 3 hours...
Hİ! Im buyed XBOX gamepass and ım downloand Fs22 ım played 8,9h And now ım try open a game but game's not openning

I called it, the new gen update was going to be around the tv show https://bethesda.net/en/article/4s2bXQEbpcrsdCZhUYLHAi/fallout-4-is-getting-free-updates
tbh, I'm not gonna update my game
It is probably best that you don't update it. I've noticed that older games that are receiving updates are starting to require them to be run from your internal Storage or Expansion Card if you bought one. Ran into this with the latest "Killer Instinct" update. Could no longer run it from my external drive. Even if the game is not a 4K graphical update. I have to now go through all my games and see which ones won't run anymore from an external. 😭
idc about that, Bethesda updates break mods
Plus not sure if fallout london will support the next gen update
Random terrible thought is Sea of Thieves should have CoD's SBMM so that all the bad Pirates who hunt others will only be met by those who do the same
That would be good to be honest. Keep it competitive instead of players jus steam rolling new sailers.
Anyone remember the long-forgotten PC game Monster Truck Madness? I hope the franchise can get a reboot.
the game was published by microsoft not developed by ms
Guys should I play fallout 1,2 or brotherhood of steel, I wanna try a classic fallout game
I can recommend the first two, but I haven't played more than like 3 minutes of Brotherhood so can't really comment there.
I want to use the Instant replay not only for games, like when I'm on discord and one of my friends said something funny so I want to capture that and I cannot because Xbox Game Bar only records games. does anyone have a solution for that?
To record other people / everything you'll need to get a capture card for your computer and use an app like OBS
I dont really know how to use OBS
Plenty of YouTube tutorials that’s how I figured it out
if i put a game disc into my xbox one, will it still need to download some content?
lets say fallout 4
Almost every game has updates that it will automatically fetch
and where is that stored?
The game installs to your hard drive and then updates are installed in the same spot
oh, ok
so its basicaly like any other game, you just install it from a disk
and its games you cant get on gamepass
Xbox (last gen) btw
What's the account name?

they left, it seems
lots of irrelevant chat in this channel when there's so many cool Xbox game studios games we could be chatting about!
like 1v100 😦
that sounds like my experience with ants
Oh dude this game needs to make a comeback!
I don't much care if there aren't any major rewards like in the past, but that was so much fun.
That was my favourite game for a looong time
Hello
I hope we get a parody trailer for apple vision pro skyrim where the user tries to put a bucket on a NPC's head using the pinch feature.
The fact that fallout 5 might not even release next generation is sad.
It's interesting to know that In the period of 13 years between 2002 and 2015 Bethesda developed and released two Fallout games, and 3 Elder Scroll games, plus published New Vegas
13 years from 2015 is the year 2028, and at the moment Bethesda would have released Fallout 76, and Starfield, and possibly ES6 in that same time frame
Howard has even said that ES6 could be the last game he directs
But if people want to see a new Fallout, go to Obsidian. Under a technicality, Outer Worlds 2 is coming at some point
Well he said might develop fallout 5 aswell.
depends on how long
IF anything, they could push to develop both at once. Once ES6 hits production, they can get some headstart with Fallout 5
A bit different than Starfield, since that game was equally a new IP and involved a new engine being developed
They have assets for Fallout, same with ES (but ES assets could be over a decade old to use, unless you consider ESO)
Well according to Todd he said he'll probably make fallout 5 before his retirement
Though it depends on bestheda scope for es6 really.
i thought es6 already entered production
Nope it’s not
Why no work on pc version of app
It has
“Last but not least, yes, we are in development on the next chapter - The Elder Scrolls 6,” Bethesda Game Studios said. “Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure.
“Thank you again for supporting us all these decades, and all you have brought to the games, making them your own. We couldn’t be more excited to continue it and celebrate the next 30 years.”
probably not anywhere near complete
Well I think it will probably release around 2026
If it doesn't release by then I'm sure Microsoft will make it day one launch for the next generation.
Makes much sense if it doesn't release by 2026 (assuming that the next generation starts around late 2027)
im thinking the same time. holiday 2025 or later
2025 is quite diffcult
probably do a multi generation thing series consoles and successor
Though I do wonder if es6 will be Xbox exclusive
i doubt it
That would be interesting especially if it's a day one launch for next gen consoles.
It would be a very interesting start from Xbox imo
but this is still at least 3 years away
True
Well I'm mostly waiting for fable myself
I do hope it is good as the trilogy
fable and indiana jones and hellblade 2 at least for this year
Fable isn't releasing this year
Though stalker 2 and Indiana Jones and hellblade 2 are.
Which is a very interesting line up very strong one
I think the elder scrolls is confirmed to be just Xbox Series/PC. Likely releasing in 5 years latest
i thought fable said 2024
Nah they only showed "supposedly" in game or in engine trailer I don't remember .
i guess we get an update in june until then
I doubt they will release fable this year, games like fable and es6 usually have long marketing periods
definitely getting stalker 2 on steam day one to support devs in ukraine
They are very heavy titles and very known IPS
I might assume elder scrolls will have had 10-11 years of development. They wanna make it perfect
Very late in the decade release
i have been meaning to get back into stalker on pc
Well It wasn't in full development, they were mostly working on starfield.
Which I didn't like to be honest
And I do like bestheda games but couldn't really get into starfield.
now with most of the team shifted to es6 and possibly fallout 5
I'm guessing FO5 is probably in the conception stage
Best guess is probably late 2029 for TESVI.
true but when they do make it i want a silent protag
I doubt it
Todd said he isn't staying for more than 10 years and he said he'll probably work on fallout 5 and es6
es6 release probably around the end of series life cycle and beginning or series sucessor
If my memory serves me right (in the last Xbox showcase)
Well it should be exclusive to next gen consoles (even if it is multiplatform)
How many years out for fallout 5 then?
later 2020s if not 2030 plus they didnt official announce it yet
If I were to make a guess es9 is probably not releasing before 2026 - 2027 (a next gen launch) if they are currently working on fallout 5 aswell I'd say around 2032 it'll probably be out
It's a completely random guess, if we were to follow their sequence
8 years dang.
Well it really depends on alot of factors and the game scale.
With the Xbox showcase in… June? Could we see anything from Bethesda?
And how much Microsoft and bestheda are willing to invest in fallout
plus es6 most likely in june showcase. fallout 5 probably not this year
They could be working on both games simultaneously
I don't think they will announce fall out 5 officially until ES6 is out
They did come out and say that they regret announcing ES6 and Starfield early
but i really doubt they officially announce fallout 5 anytime this year or next year
I doubt they will repeat the mistake thrice
Unlikely
Unless they are planning to capitalize on the show success
Maybe the next fall out game won't be developed by bestheda game studios who knows
Maybe the project might be handled by another Xbox game studio, it isn't entirely impossible.
i thought bethseda owns the IP
Well yeah but we could have fallout new Vegas 2.0 case
Especially if Xbox is planning to capitalize on the franchise popularity.
if they wanna make elder scrolls an exclusive, it would have to be it's own game
They generally are standalone games.
no, but it's speculated, not rumored, by the Xbox community to be a 2025 only on the factor that of their TBD titles, it had in engine footage
Hi
If you're wanting to start a conversation, it might be helpful to say more than a simple greeting. 😄
Also, if you want to find more people to talk to about everyday things, you can always go to #general-chat.
I bet this xbox showcase will be really good, even without the third party studios we'll see Activision /blizzard and bestheda and playground games (probably).
i played about 10 years ago Forza Horizon 2 xbox 360 version. couple days ago i started to play Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox Series X (Xbox One version)because i realized i have been get it for free (digital version) and i also heard it little bit different game than Xbox 360 version
this game have 168 championships and one championship have 4 race
672 normal race + many other things so this take long 😄
sadly online is closed. meaning not only multiplayer . every online feature away now 😦
sadly also DLC: Storm Island and DLC: Porsche Expansion cannot get any way anymore
I seriously hope we see clockwork revolution in the next Xbox Showcase.
I want fable
I’d love more clockwork revolution! I’m excited to see more of avowed too. Also Starfield DLC
Isnt clockwork the game that looks like bioshock infinite
Exactly lmfao hoping the dlc can make it less mid
Hi
👋
Dont the starfield dlc comes out october or around that time?
Yea Fall 2024
Well I can't wait for that aswell
But it seems like clockwork revolution will release before fable
me too!

Anyone know anything about whether Perfect Dark will be releasing on Series X
Nothign but rumors and speculation about a Perfect Dark remake
It has been 5 years since the teaser lol
its being made yeah by The Initiative and then some other studio is apparently helping with it.. but yeah heard nothing for awhile
"helping" lol
The Initiative hasn't posted on their twitter/x feed since crystal dynamics "started helping" 3 years ago.
And CD has been hiring for real basic core positions for a long time without any actual updates on Perfect Dark progress
I thought perfect dark was getting a reboot?
yes, that's what we were talking about
even then, the company has gone through a massive restructuring between the shifts in the industry (trading parent companies and layoffs), and working on the next Tomb Raider

one emoji is banned and 2 people used punctation marks.
honestly the worst.
Did they actually just shut down tango gamwworks
Yes
the cold math is a game studios survival is only as assured if it's last game was extremely profitable
not even then.
well mismanagement or other things will end them as well
hifi rush was extremely profitable
couldn't be enough or they would still be open i guess
They spent $70 billion on the ABK acquisition. That makes a massive dent in the annual profits and the ever hungry capitalism machine demands more profit year on year, so they made cuts elsewhere.
Instead of 'Well, we made a valuable purchase this year, so profits will be lower. Onward to next year and lots of new games from our studios!'
No, it's studio closures and kicking out thousands of people to make the numbers look nice.
it's more about keeping shareholders happy than actual success of the product
how many trillion is MS worth, seems like counting pennies to save dollars type of foolishness
What Matt Boot said about giving priority to bigger franchises sucks
Meaning that every franchise has to do 10billion CoDollar or they go to hell
I don't like this, Xbox
What disappoints me more is that Xbox had money to spend on acquiring ABK, which took a huge chunk of their time and money to pass through governments, and yet neglected to at least strengthen their output by making a mass-adoptable game that all audiences could get behind, going as far as to even port it over to PS5.
And yet, this is a sad sign where media is treated horrifically, not just in the games industry but really a general issue with Game Pass, Max, etc. Don't make enough money? Studio closures.
You would think, that because Hi-Fi Rush was a widely regarded game and made success for Microsoft and even showed their open-ness to creating and giving Japanese developers a chance at making something for Xbox, that they'd be more open to Japan selling more Xboxes.
seems like they do it on purpose for accounting reasons and to keep the remaining employees in line just in case they get any ideas to improve their self-worth
monopolies are never a good thing for gamers
Struggling to understand where my £12.99 is going. Because it's clearly not going to these talented and well loved developers.
yeah it's hugely disappointing news
I think they just want to trim the fat and keep the cash cows like CoD in the long term
I just have a PC, not invested in Xbox ecosystem. At this stage, I rather not even support their actions and just wait and see what they'll do next, nothing good I bet
still enjoying Game Pass games but nothing on first party titles
I thought they bought Activision to utilise their widely varied franchises. And they lost TfB, something which was a little different from "SHOOTY SHOOTY VROOM VROOM SPACE EXPLORATION" type games.
But no, it seems Xbox is for the "SHOOTY SHOOTY VROOM VROOM SPACE EXPLORATION" type games.
yup, that formula is getting very stale too
I love that there's a clear eco system in the works with Windows and Xbox, but it becomes ever more clear that Xbox is always the butt of the joke.

Free Tango 🕊️
Free won’t be the word I would use.
Why would they shut down Tango.. it just doesn’t make any sense after the success of Hi-Fi Rush..

It’s sad. I’m definitely sure this isn’t a Spencer decision. I really can’t trust Microsoft anymore. Morale to continue on this platform is kinda bleak ngl
never trust any company who is beholden to shareholders tbh
True. Even with what happened with Sony & Helldivers 2. Yet they quickly backtracked on it. But today’s news of layoffs and studios shutting down trumps it.. it’s gonna need something big to patch this cause we keep taking so many bad news on Xbox this year
If this the current direction of Xbox then I think it’s time for Phil Spencer to go.. As much as I love him.. Can’t continue with this trajectory..
Letting Phil Spencer go would just be a scapegoat.
Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond will definitely be in a lot of pressure. Things must change.
Sadly, that won’t change it. Shareholders will still be shareholders, and they want money.
Phil have done things bad recently and Sarah has absolutely done nothing since she is in charge of Xbox
I don't like this
they buy studios to close them
Personally, every day I am determined to switch to PC gaming, this Xbox I don't know about and it deeply disappoints me.
#rules 😃 1. Be cool, kind, and civil. Treat all members with respect and express your thoughts in a constructive manner.
don't try to skip the bad word filter by being "clever" with asterisks
even if people switch to pc gaming that won't change much since xbox releasing on pc is just as important as console
The moment Phil leaves Xbox, there's a probability that the next Xbox CEO will worse and will run Xbox to the ground with bad decisions.
Phil has some cons but the pros outweigh them.
And I feel with first party AAA games becoming one of their priorities again they are are moving in a right direction.
And that should make the "numbers look nice".
I don't mind if they remove the "first party games day one gamepass" perk if it means we will receive high quality games. It's a win-win situation for both Xbox playerbase and Xbox themselves.
(atleast for the very big games like elder scrolls 6, fallout 5, fable 4, I'm sure these games cost alot of money to develop and they don't bring much return due to releasing it on gamepass day one)
Man definitely been a rough time to be an Xbox fan.
Now we lost the team that made Hi-Fi rush? Ooof that’s no good.
Not even excited for the direct anymore.
Well I'd say this is still way better than Xbox One ERA by a mile.
A slap in the face is better than a kick to the nuts sure.
But yeah I'm very saddened to see TEW and Hifi developer go.
that's part of being a gamer, studios come and go, that's just the business of it. People who aren't employees at these studios really don't need to be taking it so personally and fueling outrage hype. Though i really hope there's big explanations as to why these studios were shut down to cut through all the here-say that's going on right now.
There's a difference between a studio shutting down due to making bad games like Austin, Studios like tango gameworks.
Tango gameworks TEW is one of the best Survival Horror franchises out there
Xbox purchasing studios and shutting them down isn't really appreciated by fans.
Dishonored, deathloop, and prey weren’t bad games
Yep, a list of big hit titles, then Redfall. They didn't deserve to be closed.
I made the right decision to switch back to PC😂
Everything above affects people on PC too.
It's not as if all of these games were exclusive to consoles.
To a degree yes, but the consoles are definitely not worth it to me now
My Xbox is somehow having more issues than my PC😂
It wouldn’t restart, my captures kept recording even after I exited the game, my capture button isn’t even working now, it still shows the number time stamp of the last one that didn’t finish and I can’t get rid of it, it’s outrageous and funny at the same time
All of this "Oh it's just so funny, haha no issues on PC" just straight up comes off as elitism.
So maybe let's try to word things differently.
If consoles don't have what you want that's perfectly fine, but the way you're talking about them just comes off really wrong.
For me I don’t think Phil’s vision align with Microsoft’s corporate mindset. It’s all a numbers game. As much as I love Phil, there’s nothing we can do about how Microsoft run things ruthlessly.
They were made by Akane Lyon (most of them)
Prey was arkane austin
Yeah that's why I said most of them
They were only support team for dishonored and deathloop if I remember correctly.
Exactly. Every studio will have their odd bad game. Plus the hate Redfall got was unwarranted. Shutting down the studio that made Prey..
Redfall hate was very justified.
The game had a very buggy launch.
And Xbox just blamed it on akane austin from day one
I’m thinking in hindsight. Look where it got us? A studio got shut down…
Well of course if a game is objectively bad it'll get hate it's only natural.
And it being xbox exclusive didn't really help.
Uh oh
Ehh I didn’t mean to say a vulgar word haha
Ah too lazy to retype. I was trying to say that the mob mentality of hating Redfall was dangerous if I think about it in hindsight. Now that we know how Microsoft operates. Not saying we shouldn’t criticize bad games but community needs to support the studios especially if they had a good track record of making good games
Cause legit I’m worried. If they could shut down Tango that made an award winning game
You did.
Omg
Most of the hate it got wasn't because people hated Austin, it was because it's Xbox exclusive game.
Yes, it was that word.
Okay thank you
It had a terrible launch don't get me wrong, but people wanted a good exclusive back then.
Xbox not delivering really triggered alot of Sony fans and even Xbox fans
And Xbox blaming it on Austin from day one really triggered some people aswell.
Yeah it was more console war toxicity to put Redfall down and scapegoat Xbox studios
That’s why I had issues with Phil Spencer’s messaging
I remember he threw Arkane Austin under the bus in an interview over a bad launch
Xbox brand doesn't really need any more terrible launches tied to its name, so since they had the opportunity to blame it on one of their studios then why not?
Which is why I’ve made a point of Xbox’s messaging again. They have told us why they acquired these studios and how they wanted to make the most koombaya Avengers of gaming of studios and support them “unconditionally”. Though their actions have been completely contradictory
Like for example I want you to look it from gamers viewpoint, when they see a first party exclusive from Sony they know that 80% it will be a banger.
But when you see a "Xbox exclusive" you don't even know how good it'll be
It'll take years to build some trust from gamers generally, until then they will just eat you alive everytime you release a "bad" game.
Xbox most likely acquired Bestheda for Fallout and ES I don't think they care about their other franchises.
And they probably just acquired Activision blizzard for diablo and cod and crash/spyro.
Personally this is the worst to happen to Xbox since 2013.
Lionhead shutting down and then announcing fable 4, 2 or 3 years later?
Now that's the worst thing they did in my opinion.
Nope. The reveal of Xbox One…. TV TV TV TV TV TV TV
I mean yeah that almost killed Xbox
That was the moment the Xbox brand nearly died bro
But I'm talking decisions wise during the generation itself.
Lionhead shutting down was quite a big loss in my opinion
Even if they made bad decisions, there had to be another way to handle it.
Yeah I think we are still experiencing the effects of 2013.. honestly the last generation was the generation to “win”. Xbox is still trying to fix that damage
In my humble opinion, if Xbox ever wants to actually control more of the gaming market share they need to compete.
Gamepass? Awesome and very consumer friendly a good step towards the right direction
Definitely getting some people interested in your platform, first party games? Not interesting compared to the competitors.
Yes but I don’t think it’s making enough. Consumer friendly though and I will support it. But Microsoft is going to be more ruthless
Trust needs to be built, I'm purely speaking from a gamer viewpoint here.
And this is the viewpoint of most people around me aswell.
People trust insomniac, people trust Santa Monica, etc.
Here’s the thing, we want Microsoft to compete and be ruthless. But not towards their own studios and employees. Be ruthless to their competitors.. make games exclusive and secure timed exclusives. Laying off your own is so weird
Exactly.
Exclusives are bad, we all hate them but since competitors do it why doesn't Xbox do it?
If they want to see big return on their investments that's how I can see that happening
Numbers game. You know how Microsoft operates, they are very “market disruptor” and will try to do something new - ie releasing Xbox titles on rival platforms. It aligns with their Windows software for all
Releasing games on rival platforms is probably the worst thing they have done yet.
Now people are using hifi and grounded as examples of "future Xbox games releasing on playstation" like hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, etc.
Worst thing in terms of brand, maybe. But revenue wise, they hit the nail on the head bro
Many people question why they should buy Xbox now?
If there's a huge possibility that at some point major games will head to rival consoles.
I agree. Here’s the thing. I was okay with that. I didn’t mind and honestly it is time to end the console war. But laying off your studios?
And once again I'm purely speaking from what I'm seeing not what I'm thinking is gonna happen.
They say that already with the games releasing on PC. But it's always been a pointless argument.
That's not XBox's fault. That's the fault of the stupidity of people. X does not equal Y. Apples are not the same as oranges.
Phil really didn't make it quite visible what their plans were he just said "we wanna see if they like what we make, before we decide anything" or something along these lines.
That's not really assuring people if at some point we might see Indiana Jones or starfield on playstation.
Xbox's strategy is to get as many people playing the games in as many places and on as many platforms as possible.
It's not the games that are intended to attract people to the console. That's the role of the features and services, like Game Pass, smart delivery, backwards compatibility, quick resume etc.
He denied the possiblity of them releasing now, but what about then?
But since playstation plus is close to being as good as gamepass then as a gamer who is planning to purchase a new console where should I go?
The console that offers more exclusives with slightly close subscription?
New releases day one is a big pull
Both consoles have their pros and cons. One major pro of XBox is that they do back compat right. With PS, you can only play back compat (PS3 games anyway) on the PS5 through the streaming capability of PS Plus Premium, for instance.
Or the console that keeps shutting down their studios, like let's all be honest here first party games are still main selling points in this day and age.
Yes I agree with this vision. But the setback I see from this is the need for Xbox hardware now that Xbox games is accessible to all. Playstation have already won the “preferred console”, so this vision will only push Xbox to be a completely software based studio, which frankly is something Microsoft is really good at
I like current Xbox vision, but it doesn't mean that they should neglect one of the points that attract gamers
Sony don't offer their first-party titles day one like Microsoft. When those games are often single player play and done games, those on a budget and looking for a cheaper option for games are less likely to want to spend $70 on a one time and done game.
Though playstation exclusives are leaps ahead of most of Xbox exclusives.
Ultimate also includes EA Play. For PS you have to pay for 2 seperate subscriptions if you want EA Play.
I'd gladly pay 100$ or more for a standard edition of fable game with the quality that playstation offers.
That still doesn't negate the fact that they're games people don't get on PS+ for a long time.
I feel like we are being side tracked I was discussing how exclusives are a main selling point.
Sure, you would, but if people are looking at comparing Game Pass and PS+, getting day one access to first-party titles is a huge selling point.
Gamepass is also one of the main selling point of Xbox consoles, but what about exclusives?
Where's the trust between gamer and Xbox?
I can't feel like people even trust Xbox game studios in 2024 as they trust playstation studios.
But is gamepass actually making enough money?
People need to stop getting so bent out of shape about exclusives. Putting a game on another platform is not a matter of trust.
If a first-party game releases on both Xbox and PS, I couldn't care less. I get it for "free" on Xbox via Game Pass and I can play it day one. That's all that I'm interested in.
Bent out of shape is a very wrong way to describe how people feel about Xbox randomly changing their strategies, shutting down studios, etc.
I wasn't talking about shutting down studios though.
That was purely about exclusives
I'm talking generally about the trust between the player and Xbox studios, if they don't offer good exclusives (most of them not all of them), are getting ported to other platforms
Every game should release to XBox and PS concurrently, imo, but I know that will never happen, so it is what it is.
Then what's the point of gamer actually choosing Xbox over playstation?
Good, I want to see more get ported.
Yeah but think about it for a second. This move may hurt the studios more. There’s a reason why Hi Fi Rush and SoT is releasing to other platforms. When they’re not making enough money on gamepass, studios will be shut down
You know this will affect gamepass right? If less people purchase Xbox that means less subscribers to gamepass.
They shut the studio down right after it released on PS before seeing what the overall sale numbers were. It wasn't about that.
Why do you think they shut down Tango for example? Something doesn’t make sense honestly. I thought Hi Fi Rush sold a lot on PS5
If people are not really attracted to your consoles obviously gamepass won't have that many subscribers.
Since you can literally play Game Pass from your "toaster", not really.
Xbox is the main gateway for people to subscribe to gamepass other than PC.
I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft Exec's went over Phil's head and pulled those strings
Notice toaster in quotations. I was being facetious cuz XBox isn't the only platform that can access Game Pass now.
That's the thing, it doesn't make sense because it was a hugely successful game and met all of the metrics at the time of release on Xbox.
So random specualation as to why they were closed is pointless and just spreading false narrative.
So you are assuming that most subscribers aren't from Xbox platforms?
Well they (Phil and Sarah) haven’t made an official statement on the decision to close these studios. So it is bound to create analysis, speculations, and chatter from the common gamer
Out of the 50 people in my friends circle who are subbed to Game Pass, I'm the only one who actually owns an XBox.
Phil is awfully quiet…
That's not really an estimate is it?
Microsoft Exec's need to keep their grubby hands off of Xbox and let Xbox handle it's business
Xbox has sold over 27m units series s/x and 57m Xbox one units.
And Xbox gamepass (including core) has 34.4m subscribers as we are speaking.
I don't know how accurate the info is, but I'm seeing a lot of people saying that when Mikami left Tango he took a lot of the core talent with him so that could have played a part in their closure.
Who knows ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I really don't know what's happening with mikami isn't he the one who made tango gameworks?
yes, but he left last year
After he left Capcom?
I honestly thought that too. Or that Tango was merging with another studio but they would have made it clear in their messaging. This was a nuke..
Bruh if Mikami and co goes to Playstation or any rival studios, I’m gonna be so pissed 🤦🏻♂️
I sure do love mikami survival horror games.
Well I doubt it
I think Mikami leaving Tango was the deathknell for the studio..it was just a matter of time
Tho I would love to see him return to capcom
Maybe develop a new re game or a whole new survival horror franchise.
No, they wouldn't say that in the message. They use basic communication - we're closing the studio, this is happening with the games, done.
People read too much - or too little - into things and start going wild with it. It's better for PR to keep it simple.
If they said they're closing Tango because Mikami took the main devs then he starts getting attacked and it puts a bad light on the remaining devs implying they're not talented enough.
Oh I meant messaging if there was a merger. I agree if it was of talent moving away they wouldn’t say anything about it
It happened, it sucks. I can't be bothered speculating the reasons and conspiracy theories. If Microsoft make a statement explaining why, great.
A lot of vocal people online likely still won't believe it or accept it, so I don't blame them if they say nothing either.
I’m personally just worried of the future of Xbox
The simple fact is, shareholders want to see big numbers. After spending $70 billion, they have a lot to pull back to give them bigger numbers than the year before and that's when people and studios get cut.
I don't see people freaking out about the future of PlayStation after they closed studios.
That's because PlayStation is peoples little darlings
Because PlayStation is the number one console though.
woops sorry.
Sure, but if the number one console needs to close studios, shouldn't that spark concern if people are so concerned that a trillion dollar company is closing them?
The xbox one reveal really really hurt Xbox
It's nothing to do with them being number one. It's to do with the heavy bias in the press and social media against Xbox.
there was a lot of people that jumped ship during that time
I get your point. For me, I have come to terms with Sony being anti-consumer and ruthless. Let them be. However Microsoft and Xbox on the other hand had made various showcases and interviews gave us messaging about how they are gamer first and acquired studios to always support them and give them creativity. Their recent moves have been a shadow of what they’re preaching
And exactly, trillion dollar company you would think they’d support their best studios
you keep saying Trillion dollar company, but it's not like Xbox can exactly just dip into the pockets of papa soft. It has to run and be able to make it's own money
I know I know…
They are supporting the best studios. That's the thing.
While Hi-Fi Rush may have been successful and popular, these were still likely the least risk and lowest earning studios overall.
That's why we're not seeing the likes of Treyarch closing. It's the smaller ones.
I still think the amount of people outraged and sad about Tango never really played Hi-Fi Rush to begin with. They just wanted to join the outrage without actually having bought the game
Personally I didn't enjoy Hi-Fi Rush and stopped playing it quite early on, but I can see why many loved it.
Personally I was hoping to see another Evil Within and it was nice to have some more Japanese talent on the Xbox team.
Irrelevant though if people played Hi Fi rush. It was objectively a successful game in terms of reviews and awards. Arguably one of the best Xbox exclusives this generation. So shutting down a studio that yielded that is something to question
THere's an interview where Mikami said he wanted to leave Tango 8 years earlier than he did
I’m just thinking how 343 survived all these years 😂
Why was tango gameworks acquired by bestheda in the first place?
Were they struggling to get their first game out?
Genuine question, would this mean we will never see a sequel to Hi Fi Rush? And does the IP belong to Xbox or is now free game for anyone to manage the IP?
No it's still owned by Xbox, and most likely no we will never see a hifi sequel.
Damn… I just can’t fathom this decision. Hi Fi Rush sequel would be such a strong exclusive selling point too by the way. They really dropped the ball on the capitalizing on a sequel hype
I hope they consider giving TEW franchise to one of their other studios.
Prey as well. I loved Prey. It was so good. It probably could still have a sequel maybe under Arkane Lyon
Yeah! Well I do doubt they have time for it but it would be very interesting
Ninja Theory doing Evil Within would be interesting
I'm not sure why but I would love if they Collab with remedy / Capcom for it.
I'm not sure why but they do have the best experience when it comes to survival horror games.
Funding them to make the games would probably do the franchise justice.
Remedy a bit too psychological horror. Maybe Capcom will be a better match.
Well I mean the developers in remedy are very talented I'm sure they will be able to adjust their style to fit the evil within, but Capcom would be amazing too.
Could be the start of a partnership with one of these studios.
And a new fresh take on the evil within franchise.
Xbox rarely do timed collaboration with other studios like PS though. Only one I can think of at the top of my head is OD with Kojima
They did do Collab with remedy before
Is it for Control?
PS does the timed exclusive collabs because they can’t afford acquiring them ie Square Enix.
No, remedy made quantum break (Xbox exclusive)
And Alan wake was originally Xbox exclusive.
(quantum break remains a Xbox exclusive till this day)
LOL yeah Quantum Break that flew through my head haha ggreat game
Honestly it deserves a sequel
But I doubt it'll get one
Xbox is probably focusing on what their studios can produce first
Square enix will definitely not make any exclusive contracts with Sony once again.
FF is underperforming.
It always doesn't hurt to be set from all sides, focusing on what your studios can do is great.
But using your connections to attract more gamers while making good games? That's pretty good.
I’m excited for Kojima’s OD
And I honestly can’t wait for Hellblade II. Just a few more weeks. I beg the gaming media shift their focus on this instead.
I'm sure they'll, I completely trust ninja theory capabilities and talent and I'm sure they will deliver.
They just need to focus on marketing the game as much as possible.
Yeah marketing has been mediocre ngl. Whatever it is I’ll be there day one
That was different. Remedy had to specifically reacquire the IP and first game rights from Microsoft in order to ship it on PlayStation
So it was originally a Xbox exclusive what's the issue again?
Xbox didn't publish it on PlayStation, Epic did for the remaster
the original version on 360 is an Xbox published title.
Again what seems to be the issue? As I said it was originally Xbox exclusive, until remedy took the IP back and good payout.
When did I say Xbox published AW2 on playstation?
i never said anything about Alan Wake 2
When did I say anything about Alan wake being owned by Xbox till this day?
I don't know why this is an argument, but it's so unnecessary.
I’m kinda worried with how under marketed Hellblade II is. Hi Fi Rush was kinda in the same dilemma. Ninja Theory must be protected at all cost
From my understanding the studios impacted were all under ZeniMax which is kinda it's own thing within Microsoft. They seem to have their own leadership and management.
Ninja Theory should be fine, that's one of the "Xbox Game Studios" that Phil is in charge of. I saw a lot of people blaming the ZeniMax stuff on him, but I don't think he was involved.
But then again the entire industry is doing it right now and nothing is safe anymore. We saw a lot of great studios close, not just from Microsoft but in general.
And it seems like there won't be a stop to it in the coming months...
There's a big difference though between a shadow drop and a lack of marketing.
A shadow drop can be a huge deal. It hits all the gaming news sites at once and generates a lot of buzz.
Hellblade has already been announced. Just from reputation alone its got a solid following and hype level. There's been some news and marketing for it - not tons, but some. I think it will be fine.
True, word of mouth is always the best form of marketing. Let the gamers speak. I mean look at Palworld and Helldivers II.
Is it?
Yeah seems like a ZeniMax internal management issue. I think the biggest surprise is closing down Tango. Bethesda’s reputation is also not all too favorable recently so I’m surprised why they’d shut down Tango. I just wished Microsoft protected them. I just looked at the photos when Phil Spencer visited the Japan office, that was heartbreaking to revisit.
I was genuinely asking why they think that I meant that xbox ported Alan wake 1 to other platforms.
Tell me about it.
Well I'm sorry if you thought I was arguing with you, but that's not what I was trying to convey.
Gaming Media is definitely ripping Microsoft/Xbox to shreds though and that is honestly sickening to see.
Well alot of people were waiting for TEW3 or a remake
And well Xbox just ended any possibility of that happening anytime soon.
Yeah I meant like the hate and displeasure is warranted. But the way the gaming media protected Sony, Nintendo and other studios on layoffs and shutdowns. At least be consistent with the shredding
Xbox will always be bullied to oblivion by the media
You're right that's true.
Bungie is dying over there.
Exactly
I honestly wanted Xbox to acquire Bungie instead of playstation.
But I guess that is what happens when you’re the “favorite” dominant platform. Get away with many.
Well that's what I meant by trust between the other platforms and gamers.
Oh lord I wished we could turn back time to 2013 and reverse Don Mattrick’s decisions
Most casual gamers just trust Sony or Nintendo, they don't get in details they just trust them blindly.
I mean I don't blame them from distant viewpoint they are offering the best games, better controllers (Sony also I mean it technological wise not durability), and they just have been around for a long time.
Xbox 360 was a good generation for Xbox, if only Xbox One launch was good, I'm sure Xbox wouldn't have been the third in the gaming space.
Xbox One-PS4 was the generation to win because the digital living room was all for grabs then
They really made a fatal mistake in 2013. Console business is ruthless
The thing is they still can make a comeback but it'll require ton of effort and risky choices from Xbox side.
More ruthless competition, innovation, creativity.
For that I’d give Phil Spencer all props for bringing Xbox back to life
I honestly think gamers have set their preferences for PlayStation. It’s just a legacy thing. The only way I see Xbox could ever come back is if PlayStation makes a fatal mistake as well
The thing is playstation has been doing nothing but fatal mistakes this generation.
Compared to ps4 gen.
If that’s the case then Xbox can no longer compete bro hahaha
With the current Xbox decisions I don't think they were even competing to begin with
But Xbox is also making fatal mistakes in their own part
Honestly. Handheld device is the way to go. They have to grab the mobile gaming space asap
Well I do hope Xbox makes a handheld console, I think that would be interesting especially with the Xbox play anywhere feature.
Handheld would definitely help make Xbox more mainstream, especially here in europe.
I'm glad to see more of my friends get into Xbox, but it's progressing slowly. Series S really helped push popularity imo!
Series S sold more than Series X if I’m not mistaken
Or maybe they’ll just ditch the console hardware space and be completely software and cloud.
Yes way more! Almost every main PlayStation/PC gamer I'm friends either wanted to get the Series S as a companion for the exclusives/backwards compatibility or as a TV Play Anywhere box.
the game isnt out yet the market campain will start shortly
Quite hard Xbox is one of the main gateways for gamepass
Unless they plan to abandon gamepass 100m subscribers goal
Yeah I read this. I guess the current drama is stealing their thunder
I don't think that would be a good idea and it wouldn't end well. Cloud is a nice addition, but it can't serve as a full on replacement for most folks.
Unless they do gamepass on all platforms
Yeah most people don't really have the required internet capabilities.
It’s Microsoft, their forte is software. I’m not surprised if they do GamePass everywhere like windows lol
Well unless Phil backtracks this statement he said they don't plan to release gamepass on any other platform
But if that ever happens that would be a funny clip to put together.
I don't think Sony would even want that, that would make the playstation plus underperform.
Watch the clip when they said they wouldn’t make the same mistake of shutting down Fable studios. That aged like milk
I doubt Sony or Nintendo would allow gamepass.
It's still direct competition to their subscriptions.
You’d never know with Microsoft honestly. Phil’s vision and Satya vision seems very contrasting at the moment
And well I doubt that Microsoft would actually invest that much to get playstation and Nintendo game versions on gamepass.
it's kind of deserved
a lot of people have lost complete trust in ms/xbox and we can't blame them for it
"A lot of people" have degrees from the University of Twitter and love to sensationalize everything too.
Xbox has been "dying" and "getting killed" and "losing the war" and "losing all trust" for the last 20 years.
This is the longest death I've ever seen.
right? lol
#DeadCompany /s
Maybe Xbox is dead already we just fail to perceive it lol
Phil Spencer and Sarah bond have been awfully quiet.. pin drop silence
you're talking about people that argue in console war arguments. im talking about people that barely engage in those arguments and generally don't voice negative opinions
people like prey fans that don't do anything but talk about their game and their massive dissapointment in this issue, or doom fans worried sick about id because of the precedent the tango closure sets
The people who don't participate in those arguments and don't normally voice any negativity would then be the type of people who just play whatever and have fun without caring much for what goes on in the background. They'd feel it, sure, but the "casual" gamer makes up for the overwhelming majority of the gaming community. There's so many people on Twitter, Reddit, Discord, whatever else that talk about games, but at the end of the day, we're all still the minority.
Guys Two things can be true at once.
- the gaming media is over sensationalizing this issue
- this shutdown and lay offs is arguably the worst thing to happen this generation
hell, even people that dismissed those claims about "xbox is dying" and that have had hope in the future of xbox, ive seen them be angry and completely demotivated
And those same types of people are the ones who act like Starfield is the worst thing Bethesda has ever made.
i just don't see how it's being oversensationalized
embracer did the same thing and now everyone seems to hate them
sony did the same thing with 2 studios and even their fans were dissapointed
The timing is also just ill
people just don't like these layoffs and they esp don't like ones that seemingly don't make sense
It’s the way they portray Xbox in comparison to Sony’s. You gotta admit the media shreds Xbox relentlessly compared to other competitors. What I’m asking for is consistency
If you can't see it, then I'd recommend distancing yourself from the situation to help see it through a different lens.
The internet as a whole loves to make problems into something bigger than they are. There have definitely been times where it was a valid reaction (the layoffs, for example, caused a justifiable amount of rage), but more often than not people are just doomsaying and making outrage bait.
It just sucks the hype from me
maybe in the background, tango closing makes sense but it just makes it seem like they were lying about being confident in them
However, yes I agree Xbox deserves all the displeasure it is receiving now. We as a community need to find a way to manage the negative discourse among each other
My honest?
They were absolutely being truthful about reinvesting in them
But then the purchase of blizzard went through
And now there’s 70B dollar hole in its wallet
Shareholders want a return of their money asap
no, even bethesda fans
There's plenty of things to freak out over, but what I'm saying is that if there was ever any validity to the "Oh god Xbox is dying forever, it's over!" then Xbox would be dead by now.
And besides Hi-Fi rush Tango game works produced flops after flops
This has been going on forever.
there's a cc that i watch that absolutely does not hate starfield and even liked it a decent bit and he was angry as all hell, it's not as black and white as you think it is
Starfield was objectively below expectations though… speaking as a Bethesda die hard
Maybe you're not old enough to see it and that's fine, but this has literally been the narrative since the 360 and...Xbox is still here.
Kylie isn’t wrong
It was only "below expectations" for people who expected 1000 Skyrims in one game.
But the sentiment itself only reached critical mass with the Xbox one debut announcement
They literally advertised exactly what the game was going to be and people were still disappointed.
Like I legitimately think that one announcement put us here
this could be true but i don't see how they would make that statement in a time were they knew that they were going to spend 70 billion
I was there during the red ring of death. Thought it was the end. But remember they had Steve Balmer taking the hit and making massive decisions. We don’t have the same leadership now
My guess is they overreached
There’s also the costs involved in the closing of the deal
The various court hearings
Appeals
Even the red ring wasn't enough. The 360 still sold over 80 million units by the end of the generation, which was only a few million behind PlayStation.
Money money money
i def agree with that i just don't agree with the whole "people are oversensationalizing it" view cause past layoffs have received this sort of attention
To be clear, I'm not saying the layoffs are oversensationalized, because they're just as awful as everyone says.
What I'm specifically referring to is the constant "Xbox is dead" narrative.
That’s the thing. Microsoft were willing to take hits to save the console. 1.15 billion alone just to return the Xbox/fix the red ring issue. You’d think now that they’d use the same mindset to protect their employees
Unfortunately, shareholders exist and they want infinite growth.
I wish we lived in Star Trek society too, but unfortunately, people are addicted to green paper.
Yeah. Sigh… That’s why I feel like Phil’s vision can’t coincide with Microsoft’s plans
i can agree with that yea
It definitely comes across as a tough choice that no one wanted to make
Oops forgot
I imagine that’s why Phil hasn’t said anything
We all agree this wasn’t a Phil Spencer decision right? I’m confident this isn’t his doing
Definitely not his
I don't know enough to say, honestly.
But he likely had to go through with it
No one person has unilateral decision making in the company
The numbers needed to be padded out for shareholders
That's not how big companies work
Honestly I wish he could move on else where and bring his vision to fruition without the boundaries of a money grabbing conglomerate that is Microsoft
The thing is
Microsoft has been lax with its studios
They’ve allowed them operate with autonomy
It’s simply the studios were not profitable
It’s hard and hurts but that’s the truth
Pretty much.
How do we measure the profitability metrics now with GamePass? 😭
But when you take into account their previous games
That’s backhanded as heck
“We expected nothing and are surprised we got something.”
Is the unfiltered version
Similarly, Mixer had 30 million concurrent users and it wasn't enough to keep it going. Annoys me to this day. It was my favorite streaming platform.
Like they got absolutely no marketing and were shadowdropped on gamepass
It was basically Tangos Swan song
That it did amazingly well means if nothing else the IP will be kept alive
A Hi-Fi 2 is gonna happen
It just won’t be with Tango games
One can only hope.
I highly doubt we get a sequel
On the whole, we'll just have to see what happens.
you can advertise a turd and what's its going to be, it's still a turd
no idea
Missed opportunity. Sequels will be such a huge selling point for a critically acclaimed game irrespective if it wasn’t profitable or not. Cause now there is proper hype and buzz. Why shut it down
we just don't know
Sure but everyone else saw the exact same thing and everyone else was very excited.
Literally nothing changed but people's expectation that the game was gunna be something it was never gunna be in the first place.
Yeah this sums it up
Similar thing happened to Cyberpunk. The game basically toppled itself with its own hype.
Because shareholders wanted an immediate return post the massive purchase
That purchase has been looming at all quarterly reports
i agree but the game was still very flawed it deserved the mixed reviews
It still was a commercial success right? And they saved the game with phantom liberty
The current narrative we can see and follow based on emails is that Xbox is focusing on its main studios and big IPs
I can’t see why they would scrap Tango completely. I just can’t fathom it
literally same
What the heck
Says Microsoft
We need a new fallout game
What do you mean it takes 300 hundred years to make one?
Imagine they released Fallout during the tv show buzz.
We need one out before the next season!
Shut down all side studios and reallocat resources to get it done
Starfield is a solid 7-8/10 at the minimum. There's very little to be angry about that wasn't explicitly advertised. If people didn't like the game, that's completely valid, but everyone dumping on it because they expected 1000 different fully handcrafted worlds was just ridiculous.
I'm not aware of a single studio (or group of studios for that matter) that could accomplish something like that without taking 20 years of straight development time.
The game isn't perfect, sure, and there's definitely some annoyances here and there, but the people online who act like Starfield is the worst thing ever are just being disingenuous.
Yeah I’m glad we have many seasons. This will be a great opportunity for the franchise. Bro I even had casuals who never played fallout loving the tv show. It’s incredible to see
That’s what Microsoft is actually kicking itself over.
That kinda ties into the whole sensationalist thing. People want to act like anything that doesn't get a 99/100 on Metacritic is garbage.
This I agree. However the Starfield expectations were beyond Valhalla 😂😂 so a 90/100 bare minimum was expected unfortunately
I personally give Starfield 8.5/10. Would have been more if they made space travel more immersive
And that's a valid thing to mention. For a game about space, space sure doesn't take up much of the experience.
Literally I think the only improvements needed right now is simply
Removing as many loading screens as possible
Game of the Generation..
Rover usage as well
Replace it with something
Needs more cowbell
Something to cover up the loading screen
Use the mass effect elevator trick
Or the destiny ship travel trick
Something
Unfortunately I don't know how much can be done about the loading screens simply due to how BGS games are made.
No what they need is a Starfield TV Show 😂 cause I swear a lot of people maybe don’t get the Sci Fi tone it’s trying to achieve (story wise)
Well that’s largely because it’s a combination of various different genres
How about elder scrolls tv show lol
You got you Starship Troopers “KILL EM ALL!” UC
Yes that too
Starfield storyline is AMAZING tho. It just feels like the game is divided into so many compartments because of the loading screens
The game really needs to take advantage of the unity post game
Imagine each new universe is a timeline where things are different
Freestar beat the UC
Atlantis is a CRATER
It’s gone
Or the UC crushed the Freestar
Something that I think a lot of people might forget is the sheer scale of BGS games just is not a common thing within the industry.
There's tons of complex games out there, of course there are, but like... Take Cities: Skylines, for example. In my opinion, it's the best modern citybuilder there is (minus the damned traffic AI), but in terms of a driving game, it's terrible.
The reason I bring it up that way is because even though Bethesda may or may not build the perfect game every time, the difference here is that they are able to fit damn near everything in. There's a reason why you don't see any games that are like what BGS makes.
I’d like to think Starfield is like Interstellar. Many thought Interstellar was the worst Nolan film. But it grew a cult following. I thtink people will revisit Starfield in a couple of years and see that it is actually top tier
Creation Engine is criminally underrated.
And criminally overhated.
^
They just need to find away to tie the assets together immersively.
It plain does a lot for just how much is going on
Unreal Engine is great graphically but I still think CE is superior just because of how interactive and vast it is. The issue is that the assets are very compartmentalized
No Man's Sky has ship building (-ish, at least with one of the recent patches), it has ship combat, you can fly to different procgen'd systems, you can land and explore planets... It does a lot of things similar to Starfield, but I want you to think about the things it doesn't have.
Starfield has all of that, while also having millions of little bits just thrown across all those different planets, all of them affected by physics, and you can drop something on one, leave, and it'll still be there.
I think that last part is a huge thing people forget.
Unfortunately for the layman gamer, the first thing they see is the direct comparison of space traveling for a space game. It is bound to happen
And Starfield failed the space traveling aspect. Everything else, it does superbly well
But the space immersion travel seamlessly takes a huge chunk of the overall rating in my opinion
Is Elite: Dangerous a better ship flying game? For sure it is.
Ground content is exceptionally poor though. Missions are just flat out nothing. No shipbuilding, no politics (that are worth anything), nothing. But it's a damn good space mining and combat game, in the same way X is a damn good space empire building game.
Starfield is a good everything game. Might not be perfect, but it takes bits of all the greatest space sims and puts them in one, and then adds all the BGS player freedom and huge interactive environments.
I wish every day of my life that there were people out there who could make BGS clones, but unfortunately... Yeah I don't see that happening...really ever.
Arguably Obsidian games. But technically they were part of BGS
At least have an option to skip/fast travel
Yeah Obsidian is pretty much the only studio that comes remotely close.
It's why I hold them in such high regard, because sure the scale of their games is much smaller, but they do what Bethesda does except with...cough...moreskilledwriterssorry.
They need to team up with BGS to make New Vegas remake 🙏🙏
I wish Obsidian was available for Fallout 5 because that would be insane.
This is definitely something I think people don't take into consideration, you're right.
I've put hundreds of hours into No Man's Sky and Elite: Dangerous, and the one thing that got so damn old was the constant flying everywhere, especially in regards to landing on planets.
With how much you travel in Starfield, I guarantee you the game would have bombed if you had to manually fly.
That’s why going back to this whole drama. I’m worried this will affect the morale of the great developers/publishers in Xbox. Seems like making a good game (Hi Fi rush) does not guarantee reward. Like I’m genuinely worried and I keep thinking maybe the GamePass model or just the current Xbox business model isn’t sustainable
Saw a few tweets from Obsidian execs showing their displeasure too. So that was really bad to see
Unfortunately, it's gone beyond worrying and is already happening. Speaking generally and not in regards to any particular company, people are afraid and they're worried that nothing they do is enough.
Valid concerns too considering everything going on.
One of the execs of Obsidian tweeted “what am I even doing here” or something in those lines. So sad to see and honestly not a good way to respond PR publicity wise
I just hope the future is brighter.
Could you share a link? I'd like to read them.
yea apparently bethesda internally also did not take the news well
Honestly I can’t share now I didn’t follow them but they popped up on my timeline and I saw some of their job titles in their twitter bio. I’d have to literally look for them
Just hop on twitter
No problem. I'll check it out. I'm being shocked by the news as well, and being discussing with my friends where it's Xbox going from this point.
Yeah, I jumped into Xbox discord just for this to discuss and “cope” as much as possible. Group therapy..
Personally it is worrying. But we still have a good pipeline coming up
June Showcase will be the deciding factor in my opinion
It's very similar when Disney bought Fox, and then closed Fox Searchlight, a brand dedicated to niche cinema. I was hoping Xbox is not like Disney, and they have some love for traditional videogames.
Between PS and Xbox, I personally see Xbox having a greater pipeline. It’s just these weird internal decisions that are halting them back a few steps
Microsoft bro… we all keep forgetting the corporate juggernaut
Fyi Jez Corden tweeted the rumor of Mikami leaving Tango/migrating the talent was false. Don’t mean to speak rumors/leaks but just throwing it in the conversation.
Need an official statement asap from Xbox seriously
even if a decent amount of the talent left that doesn't mean that they couldn't have hired more and teached them the same way mikami did
i saw some people making that an excuse and it just doesn't make any sense
It’s worse if the Mikami leaving rumors weren’t true. Just shows Tango got exiled when they were still operating
The concern now is even if the games do well critically and financially come the next quarter they close the studios down.
oh those aren't rumours, he did leave, he said so on twitter too
Even if it wasn’t financially doing well, a critically acclaimed game like Hi Fi Rush should always be invested. They didn’t explore its full potential and that is the worry
Sorry I meant to add the talents leaving with Mikami
oh alr
Me too
I want xbox to get a W
Not on no meme, hater, or drama stuff. I just wanna see xbox win. It sucks.
I just wanna see people not losing their jobs 😭
Same
Phil flew to close to the sun with that deal
pro link tip: if there's a bunch of random garbage after a question mark, you can delete everything starting from the question mark for a much thinner link
I learned something new today
Just read the article. Damn
The Activision acquisition really put Xbox into the guillotine by Microsoft.. and the fact GamePass is not being that profitable as the leadership hoped for is alarming
And the cuts and layoffs don’t end there. We might see more
So I guess this time for realises Xbox is truly dying
On the 70 billion dollar purchase putting Xbox on watch by MS
And the fact game pass is not bringing in money
They regretted closing Lionhead. And they said they’d learn from that mistake.
All I know is this direct has lost all hype from me
I know y’all said not to worry about Ninja Theory or any of our favorite publishers/developers. But I just don’t trust Xbox anymore after what they did with Hi Fi Rush
Oh no that’s fair
I don’t trust them either it feels like now they’re struggling for anything without any clear line nor games that are exclusive for it within a reasonable time frame
This is not some clickbait YT/Twitter engagement/Reddit takes. I’m genuinely sick and tired of this company
I’ll take that with some salt
Perfect Dark game not looking good too. Ffs.
Like I said. June Showcase is literally the last chance for me
“The sudden closure of several video-game studios at Microsoft Corp's Xbox division was the result of a widespread cost-cutting initiative that still isn't finished.”
This one makes sense given they did the same to Blizzard
IE Why have a dozen QA Testers across a dozen companies when we can have 2
jeff grubb is not an official source. he himself said this
Who would you recommend to follow?
I try to stick with the official announcements from Xbox themselves but bloomberg analysis etc. sheds more light on their situation imo
Xbox messaging seems very koombaya and “we’re just doing fine” but the numbers seems to suggest otherwise
i think believing rumors is not a good idea as if it gets out of control it leads to 30 second slowmodes and 30 minute headaches
I try to stay away from that. Jason Schreier on the other end seems to be well respected in gaming journalism
Feels like Microsoft spent so much money winning the legal battle to buy Activision that now it is costing them studios
As long as right now no one tries to hire any new staff then they’re fine
That’s what got Tango games fired
Saw someone share about Double Fine. Lol. Please do not touch Psychonauts 2. That was such a beautiful game
Yo
“Before their closures, Tango Gameworks was in the process of pitching a sequel to Hi-Fi Rush and Arkane Austin was "looking to return to its roots by pitching a new single-player "immersive sim" game, such as a new entry in the Dishonored series".”
This is gonna haunt me
I just started today quantum break what a banger
It’s a great game
How many real episode this thing have?
4 episodes.
So cool
leaks and rumors are against the rules btw
It’s literally from the Bloomberg article
Do I'm obligated to finish the 100 or I can just enjoy the story of quantum break?
Quite hurtful to know that TEW was never getting a new game any time soon
I know TEW2 is a good closure to the franchise (some people even considered that TEW1 shouldn't get a sequel)
Apparently a handful of other insiders can verify the claims. The only reason that one of them hasn't reported on some of the stories he's heard is because he knows that they are really trying hard. It's just not working out well.
I'm generally a positive guy when it comes to Xbox, but when you shutter Tango and then use HiFi Rush as an example of the monitor game you want to make more of, something is seriously wrong with your entire executive branch.
hello how is everyone?
I'm not sure but alot of people seem to have forgotten what Xbox was doing last generation.
Losing gaming partnerships with major devs, shutting studios like lionhead.
Xbox has some serious cahoons saying they need more games like hi-fi rush while the body is still hot
Ikr lmao?
Is this a Doom and gloom server???
we try to limit that
Only when Xbox puts out doom and gloom news.
Just seems like every small positive thing Xbox does gets overshadowed by 3 or more major negative developments
I dunno about gloom, but doom...
Naah here's a fact negative Xbox news bring views and engagement.
They just sugarcoating their decisions, I'm glad i almost have all good og xbox and 360 games. I'll play all the old games I missed and enjoy it to the fullest, while the game industry tanks in quality. People will continue to play video games but it won't be as good
Is there any hope? I have to hope that things will get better. Console gaming is supposed to be the cheap way to enjoy games. Building a gaming pc or getting a gaming laptop is so expensive.
The best way to "enjoy games" is to....
.... enjoy games.
Go turn your xbox on, turn your computer/phone/Twitter&TikTok Device off, and ... play a game.
Here's a fun fact negative news also lead to trust issues.
