Sure just search Microsoft on steam client. Probably halo flight sim and solitaire lol. But why do you want them on steam? If you get your game through Microsoft you will be pretty much gaurantees that “play anywhere” and cloud saves and all that stuff work

GTA Online for Series S|X you’ll have to double check, it might include the Story Mode or it might not. It should say in the package description.

Will Xbox one day make a game like PlayStation?

Yes

gloomy reef
#

had to really read that question for a moment

#

my guess is Perfect Dark could be the game of that mold

median raven
#

I'm not actually sure what they mean by the question, because Xbox does have games that are similar in style to some of the PlayStation exclusives. They aren't necessarily all Xbox exclusives either (things like Tomb Raider, for example), but they do exist.

Unless they mean games where 90% of the gameplay is just QTEs, then yeah no, not a wide selection of games like that.

Maybe Spider-Man. When you play on Playstation, titles from these developers generate a lot of hype.

#

I looked up Ninja Theory's resume. Pretty interesting

#

Studio made some interesting titles during the 6th and 7th generations. Kung Fu Chaos for the Xbox, followed by Heavenly Sword for PS3 and DmC for 360 and PS3

#

After that, the studio worked on support work for Disney Infinity, before working on a few VR projects (even after the buyout, there were releasing some on Oculus)

#

Last game release was a Series X port of Hellblade, and... Bleeding Edge (Overwatch clone).

#

Studio has two upcoming projects: Project Mara and Hellblade 2

#

If Blade will be the game I assume for it to be, wouldn't be surprised if NT did support work, considering experience working on HS and DmC

stiff zodiac
#

I'm not sure why people are complaining that HB2 will have a quality mode and performance mode

woeful wraith
#

Because they complain about everything.

stiff zodiac
woeful wraith
#

For years they whined that graphics weren't good enough or worlds weren't big enough. Now they have stunning graphics and huge worlds, but hardware can't handle higher frame rates with those things, so they now whine that games are 30fps when consoles advertise 120.

stiff zodiac
#

The game looks so beautiful and carefully made with ton of attention.

woeful wraith
#

Hellblade 2 is likely to be one of the best looking games we've seen - ever.

stiff zodiac
#

Anyways I just think when people see the Xbox logo they just assume the game is trash and start spreading hate.

median raven
#

Yeah the visuals are insane. Every time I feel like we've reached some kind of ceiling, another game comes out that says, "Nah, we haven't."

Really makes me wonder just how much further we can actually take this.

woeful wraith
#

The issue now is animation. You can make a game look super realistic, but if things don't animate and move properly, you're right back in uncanny valley.

#

Mocap definitely helps, but facial animation is where things break down in so many games. But thankfully Hellblade has full facial animation too.

median raven
#

Yeah for sure. I feel like...really the last few hurdles that we have in terms of visual fidelity is animations, as you said, and then...what...lighting?

Lighting is already really good, but beyond resolution, the easiest difference to notice about how games have evolved over time is the lighting, and it can make such a humongous difference, even if the resolution isn't as high.

#

Like that one screenshot I sent earlier from Ark. At a distance it looks almost real because of the lighting and things blocking said lighting.

#

Wonder what type of lit environments Hellblade 2 is gunna show off.

woeful wraith
#

Yeah, lighting has a ways to go. Ray and path tracing make such a huge difference when done properly, but it tanks performance hard so it's not a viable solution outside of the top end PC rigs. Even then, without DLSS etc, the performance trade off often isn't worth it.

median raven
#

Yeah big facts.

drifting yew
#

Personally, I think raster lighting tech has progressed to the point that we can literally fake lighting till it looks good. Ray tracing can and does look really good, but until RTX 30xx series levels of GPU power becomes basically commonplace everywhere, it's probably a lot easier to fake the look of realistic lighting with the tricks we've been using for years

projects take a lot of funding, and for Microsoft this was something where it was the best move at the time. Around the same time Scalebound was cancelled (since PG took a lot of money for Microsoft on the project but was using their money to fund other projects like Nier Automata and God knows what else. Studio was also inexperienced with Unreal 4, and Xbox wanted a release. PG said no, and they barely had a team, so the project was cancelled)

stiff zodiac
#

Well I never really understood the reason that forced them to focus on funding third party studios instead of cultivating their first party studios.

gloomy reef
#

I think Xbox during the One period was a bit of a disaster during that first half

#

They ended up having to lost a bunch of studios between 2010 and 2016 at that point

stiff zodiac
#

They had good exclusives and funding, but the previous Xbox management was pretty terrible

#

I personally had Xbox one and PS4, I didn't use my Xbox that much until Xbox one S released and even then It wasn't my main console.

gloomy reef
#

they had a few in house, but a lot of their titles were externally published (Moon Studios, Remedy, Insomniac, Crytek, Capcom). Company didn't have a major focus on third party exclusives like they did for 360 (tbf, most of what PlayStation 4 did for Third party they played smart on. Mostly japanese publishers)

#

A lot of their internal teams they lost were mainly XBLA dev teams, developers for Kinect software, etc.

#

God, I just remembered. The Phantom Dust remake. So Microsoft reformed their Japanese studio, and had to close it because it wouldn't come out

#

on top of that, their internal teams were hitting some rough patches. Microsoft Vancouver (before Coaltion) could not get a game out until they got the rights to Gears in 2014

stiff zodiac
#

And generally the Xbox ecosystem is way better this generation.

gloomy reef
#

yeah I noticed. There was getting Atlus games on Xbox, Like a Dragon, Dragon Quest, FF (and more from Square Enix), Kingdom Hearts

#

I fully agree

stiff zodiac
#

Better than most of the competitors.

gloomy reef
#

not wrong

#

I would say in certain aspects Sony is failing. Mainly because it was a really dumb idea to invest in GaaS the way they did

#

Nintendo I won't speak on. They cleaned themselves up with Switch

stiff zodiac
gloomy reef
#

And because of Sony, they are facing much larger layoffs than they could of avoided if stuff like Last of Us online was outsourced, and London didn't focus on a live service game

gloomy reef
#

though Konami's partnership feels stronger with PlayStation, knowing the history

#

btw, I just remembered a game that was cancelled. It was an Obisidian Entertainment game for Xbox One as a launch title

stiff zodiac
#

Most of ps5 games are remasters and remakes of already good looking games.

gloomy reef
#

not fully true

gloomy reef
#

Gran Turismo 7

#

we pretty much are. Even then, the PS5 lineup of games is phenominal. But I can get the sourness people have for the 2024 and beyond slate

#

That being 2024 is "lacking" on any core exclusives (mostly second party releases, and Concord)

#

2024 in general is a bit of a drought year for MOST developers and projects. But rest assured: 2025 for Playstation is lined up to be the very best year for the brand

stiff zodiac
#

Well the problem is that it will last till Q2 2025.

stiff zodiac
gloomy reef
#

don't be so certain about that. They limit it mainly to AAA titles, but it doesn't mean that a game could end up in Q1 or Q2 of 2025, or you get a AA title to care about

stiff zodiac
#

I don't see spiderman or gow getting any major sequel anytime soon.

gloomy reef
#

one of the biggest titles I make a guess on releasing in 2025 (forgot to mention Death Stranding 2 is a 2025 release) is the next game from Sucker Punch. At that point, it'll have a 5 year development cycle, and it's more than likely a GoT2, but I'm not going to say it's straight up GoT2 since they could have done a new IP

#

NaughtyDog and a ton of other studios also could plan reveals later this year.

#

Keep an eye on Santa Monica, since they actually have two projects in development, one of which is directed by Barlog, and that went in full production around 2022

stiff zodiac
#

Well it's about when will all of this arrive.

gloomy reef
#

Insomniac always have multiple projects in development

stiff zodiac
#

If we look in Xbox side they have literally every major studio we ever known

gloomy reef
#

Pretty much. I would say for most of them it's between 2025 and 2026.

stiff zodiac
#

It's about when not how many.

gloomy reef
#

2024 admittedly will be the big year for Xbox compared to PlayStation and Nintendo. But I don't know about their 2025 lineup, same for Nintendo. I have guesses but they are a bit wild

stiff zodiac
gloomy reef
#

stuff I predicted for 2025 included Clockwork Revolution, Gears 6/Coalition project, Fable, new Mario game from EPD 8, Metroid Prime 4

gloomy reef
#

I have to play catchup with my Xbox and PlayStation library

#

I dunno. Hirings hinted at them doing Gears 6 since they wre hiring verterans of the series. But nothing super concrete

#

So we kinda just say it's Gears 6. And Coaltion is the chief developer for anything in Unreal

#

Pretty much a position for studios like 343 and Turn 10. They both specifically work on Halo and Forza Motorsport

#

Unless Coaltion delves away from Gears and does a new ip

It is probably best that you don't update it. I've noticed that older games that are receiving updates are starting to require them to be run from your internal Storage or Expansion Card if you bought one. Ran into this with the latest "Killer Instinct" update. Could no longer run it from my external drive. Even if the game is not a 4K graphical update. I have to now go through all my games and see which ones won't run anymore from an external. 😭

gloomy reef
#

It's interesting to know that In the period of 13 years between 2002 and 2015 Bethesda developed and released two Fallout games, and 3 Elder Scroll games, plus published New Vegas

#

13 years from 2015 is the year 2028, and at the moment Bethesda would have released Fallout 76, and Starfield, and possibly ES6 in that same time frame

#

Howard has even said that ES6 could be the last game he directs

#

But if people want to see a new Fallout, go to Obsidian. Under a technicality, Outer Worlds 2 is coming at some point

stiff zodiac
gloomy reef
#

IF anything, they could push to develop both at once. Once ES6 hits production, they can get some headstart with Fallout 5

A bit different than Starfield, since that game was equally a new IP and involved a new engine being developed

They have assets for Fallout, same with ES (but ES assets could be over a decade old to use, unless you consider ESO)

You would need to go onto the account with Game Pass and set that console as that account's Home Xbox, then it will share the subscription.

They spent $70 billion on the ABK acquisition. That makes a massive dent in the annual profits and the ever hungry capitalism machine demands more profit year on year, so they made cuts elsewhere.

Instead of 'Well, we made a valuable purchase this year, so profits will be lower. Onward to next year and lots of new games from our studios!'

What disappoints me more is that Xbox had money to spend on acquiring ABK, which took a huge chunk of their time and money to pass through governments, and yet neglected to at least strengthen their output by making a mass-adoptable game that all audiences could get behind, going as far as to even port it over to PS5.

And yet, this is a sad sign where media is treated horrifically, not just in the games industry but really a general issue with Game Pass, Max, etc. Don't make enough money? Studio closures.

You would think, that because Hi-Fi Rush was a widely regarded game and made success for Microsoft and even showed their open-ness to creating and giving Japanese developers a chance at making something for Xbox, that they'd be more open to Japan selling more Xboxes.

heady turtle

I remember he threw Arkane Austin under the bus in an interview over a bad launch

heady turtle
stiff zodiac

Like for example I want you to look it from gamers viewpoint, when they see a first party exclusive from Sony they know that 80% it will be a banger.

#

But when you see a "Xbox exclusive" you don't even know how good it'll be

#

It'll take years to build some trust from gamers generally, until then they will just eat you alive everytime you release a "bad" game.

stiff zodiac
#

And they probably just acquired Activision blizzard for diablo and cod and crash/spyro.

heady turtle
#

Personally this is the worst to happen to Xbox since 2013.

stiff zodiac
#

Now that's the worst thing they did in my opinion.

heady turtle
stiff zodiac
heady turtle
#

That was the moment the Xbox brand nearly died bro

stiff zodiac
#

But I'm talking decisions wise during the generation itself.

#

Lionhead shutting down was quite a big loss in my opinion

#

Even if they made bad decisions, there had to be another way to handle it.

heady turtle
#

Yeah I think we are still experiencing the effects of 2013.. honestly the last generation was the generation to “win”. Xbox is still trying to fix that damage

stiff zodiac
#

In my humble opinion, if Xbox ever wants to actually control more of the gaming market share they need to compete.

#

Gamepass? Awesome and very consumer friendly a good step towards the right direction

#

Definitely getting some people interested in your platform, first party games? Not interesting compared to the competitors.

heady turtle
stiff zodiac
#

And this is the viewpoint of most people around me aswell.

stiff zodiac
heady turtle
#

Here’s the thing, we want Microsoft to compete and be ruthless. But not towards their own studios and employees. Be ruthless to their competitors.. make games exclusive and secure timed exclusives. Laying off your own is so weird

stiff zodiac
#

Exclusives are bad, we all hate them but since competitors do it why doesn't Xbox do it?

#

If they want to see big return on their investments that's how I can see that happening

heady turtle
stiff zodiac
#

Now people are using hifi and grounded as examples of "future Xbox games releasing on playstation" like hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, etc.

heady turtle
stiff zodiac

If there's a huge possibility that at some point major games will head to rival consoles.

heady turtle
stiff zodiac

woeful wraith

They say that already with the games releasing on PC. But it's always been a pointless argument.

delicate bone
stiff zodiac
stiff zodiac
woeful wraith
#

Xbox's strategy is to get as many people playing the games in as many places and on as many platforms as possible.

It's not the games that are intended to attract people to the console. That's the role of the features and services, like Game Pass, smart delivery, backwards compatibility, quick resume etc.

stiff zodiac
#

He denied the possiblity of them releasing now, but what about then?

stiff zodiac
#

The console that offers more exclusives with slightly close subscription?

woeful wraith
delicate bone
#

Both consoles have their pros and cons. One major pro of XBox is that they do back compat right. With PS, you can only play back compat (PS3 games anyway) on the PS5 through the streaming capability of PS Plus Premium, for instance.

stiff zodiac
#

Or the console that keeps shutting down their studios, like let's all be honest here first party games are still main selling points in this day and age.

heady turtle
stiff zodiac
#

I like current Xbox vision, but it doesn't mean that they should neglect one of the points that attract gamers

woeful wraith
stiff zodiac
delicate bone
#

Ultimate also includes EA Play. For PS you have to pay for 2 seperate subscriptions if you want EA Play.

stiff zodiac
woeful wraith
#

That still doesn't negate the fact that they're games people don't get on PS+ for a long time.

stiff zodiac
#

I feel like we are being side tracked I was discussing how exclusives are a main selling point.

woeful wraith
stiff zodiac
#

Gamepass is also one of the main selling point of Xbox consoles, but what about exclusives?

#

Where's the trust between gamer and Xbox?

#

I can't feel like people even trust Xbox game studios in 2024 as they trust playstation studios.

heady turtle
woeful wraith
#

People need to stop getting so bent out of shape about exclusives. Putting a game on another platform is not a matter of trust.

#

If a first-party game releases on both Xbox and PS, I couldn't care less. I get it for "free" on Xbox via Game Pass and I can play it day one. That's all that I'm interested in.

stiff zodiac
woeful wraith

No, they wouldn't say that in the message. They use basic communication - we're closing the studio, this is happening with the games, done.

People read too much - or too little - into things and start going wild with it. It's better for PR to keep it simple.

If they said they're closing Tango because Mikami took the main devs then he starts getting attacked and it puts a bad light on the remaining devs implying they're not talented enough.

heady turtle
woeful wraith

It happened, it sucks. I can't be bothered speculating the reasons and conspiracy theories. If Microsoft make a statement explaining why, great.

heady turtle

you keep saying Trillion dollar company, but it's not like Xbox can exactly just dip into the pockets of papa soft. It has to run and be able to make it's own money

woeful wraith

That's why we're not seeing the likes of Treyarch closing. It's the smaller ones.

woeful wraith

Personally I didn't enjoy Hi-Fi Rush and stopped playing it quite early on, but I can see why many loved it.

Personally I was hoping to see another Evil Within and it was nice to have some more Japanese talent on the Xbox team.

Irrelevant though if people played Hi Fi rush. It was objectively a successful game in terms of reviews and awards. Arguably one of the best Xbox exclusives this generation. So shutting down a studio that yielded that is something to question

From my understanding the studios impacted were all under ZeniMax which is kinda it's own thing within Microsoft. They seem to have their own leadership and management.
Ninja Theory should be fine, that's one of the "Xbox Game Studios" that Phil is in charge of. I saw a lot of people blaming the ZeniMax stuff on him, but I don't think he was involved.
But then again the entire industry is doing it right now and nothing is safe anymore. We saw a lot of great studios close, not just from Microsoft but in general.
And it seems like there won't be a stop to it in the coming months...

woeful wraith

There's a big difference though between a shadow drop and a lack of marketing.

A shadow drop can be a huge deal. It hits all the gaming news sites at once and generates a lot of buzz.

Hellblade has already been announced. Just from reputation alone its got a solid following and hype level. There's been some news and marketing for it - not tons, but some. I think it will be fine.

#

median raven
# visual heron i agree but the game was still very flawed it deserved the mixed reviews

Starfield is a solid 7-8/10 at the minimum. There's very little to be angry about that wasn't explicitly advertised. If people didn't like the game, that's completely valid, but everyone dumping on it because they expected 1000 different fully handcrafted worlds was just ridiculous.

I'm not aware of a single studio (or group of studios for that matter) that could accomplish something like that without taking 20 years of straight development time.

The game isn't perfect, sure, and there's definitely some annoyances here and there, but the people online who act like Starfield is the worst thing ever are just being disingenuous.

heady turtle
rigid cedar
median raven
#

That kinda ties into the whole sensationalist thing. People want to act like anything that doesn't get a 99/100 on Metacritic is garbage.

heady turtle
#

I personally give Starfield 8.5/10. Would have been more if they made space travel more immersive

median raven
#

And that's a valid thing to mention. For a game about space, space sure doesn't take up much of the experience.

heady turtle
#

No what they need is a Starfield TV Show 😂 cause I swear a lot of people maybe don’t get the Sci Fi tone it’s trying to achieve (story wise)

#

#

median raven
#

Something that I think a lot of people might forget is the sheer scale of BGS games just is not a common thing within the industry.

There's tons of complex games out there, of course there are, but like... Take Cities: Skylines, for example. In my opinion, it's the best modern citybuilder there is (minus the damned traffic AI), but in terms of a driving game, it's terrible.

The reason I bring it up that way is because even though Bethesda may or may not build the perfect game every time, the difference here is that they are able to fit damn near everything in. There's a reason why you don't see any games that are like what BGS makes.

heady turtle
#

I’d like to think Starfield is like Interstellar. Many thought Interstellar was the worst Nolan film. But it grew a cult following. I thtink people will revisit Starfield in a couple of years and see that it is actually top tier

rigid cedar
#

It plain does a lot for just how much is going on

heady turtle
#

Unreal Engine is great graphically but I still think CE is superior just because of how interactive and vast it is. The issue is that the assets are very compartmentalized

median raven
#

No Man's Sky has ship building (-ish, at least with one of the recent patches), it has ship combat, you can fly to different procgen'd systems, you can land and explore planets... It does a lot of things similar to Starfield, but I want you to think about the things it doesn't have.

Starfield has all of that, while also having millions of little bits just thrown across all those different planets, all of them affected by physics, and you can drop something on one, leave, and it'll still be there.

#

I think that last part is a huge thing people forget.

heady turtle
#

And Starfield failed the space traveling aspect. Everything else, it does superbly well

#

But the space immersion travel seamlessly takes a huge chunk of the overall rating in my opinion

median raven
#

Is Elite: Dangerous a better ship flying game? For sure it is.

Ground content is exceptionally poor though. Missions are just flat out nothing. No shipbuilding, no politics (that are worth anything), nothing. But it's a damn good space mining and combat game, in the same way X is a damn good space empire building game.

#

Starfield is a good everything game. Might not be perfect, but it takes bits of all the greatest space sims and puts them in one, and then adds all the BGS player freedom and huge interactive environments.

#

I wish every day of my life that there were people out there who could make BGS clones, but unfortunately... Yeah I don't see that happening...really ever.

heady turtle
#

At least have an option to skip/fast travel

median raven
#

Yeah Obsidian is pretty much the only studio that comes remotely close.

#

It's why I hold them in such high regard, because sure the scale of their games is much smaller, but they do what Bethesda does except with...cough...moreskilledwriterssorry.

heady turtle
median raven
#

I wish Obsidian was available for Fallout 5 because that would be insane.

#

This is definitely something I think people don't take into consideration, you're right.

I've put hundreds of hours into No Man's Sky and Elite: Dangerous, and the one thing that got so damn old was the constant flying everywhere, especially in regards to landing on planets.

#

With how much you travel in Starfield, I guarantee you the game would have bombed if you had to manually fly.

heady turtle
#

Saw a few tweets from Obsidian execs showing their displeasure too. So that was really bad to see

median raven
#

Unfortunately, it's gone beyond worrying and is already happening. Speaking generally and not in regards to any particular company, people are afraid and they're worried that nothing they do is enough.
