They're not 'promoting free codes'. They are offering a trial of their service.

They want people who are able to pay for the service when the trial ends, not people who can't/don't want to pay for it and are just out for a free month.

Pretty much every service trial requires a payment method because they want paying customers, not freebie hunters.

The only way to get around that is to actually pay for Game Pass and buy a Game Pass gift card from a store.

If the console is set as the home console for your account, then your daughter can play as long as she's using her own account.

Then your daughter can log in with her own account and access your games and subscriptions (but not cloud gaming for her - cloud only works for the account paying for Ultimate).

The only other way to know for sure is when you redeem it and it will give you an error if you've had Game Pass before

It's a subscription service. Microsoft want people signed up with payment methods to pay for it. This is what happens when you go to sketchy key sellers to try and avoid paying regular price.
