Most people in the US have never had any need to. Phone plans with unlimited text messages have been a thing for ages over there. In most of the EU, phone providers were very reticent to doing so. Instead, apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger became incredibly popular because people could send messages from their phones unlimited for free as long as they had WiFi

But I don't think the case against Whatsapp E2EE has been dropped - seems like they are still on it while holding it to the tightest regulation right now.

I think the main reason is because they’re not selling well or not selling as much as the consoles versions. The profit margin isn’t worth it. However, I think them not wanting their games on an Xbox played a part too.

Honestly, I think they are setting themselves up for a failure.
If anything, we've seen the PC gaming market is the fastest growing one.
And now with both Valve and Xbox making consoles that play PC games, I get why Sony wants to be careful, but reducing their potential playerbase is not going to help them, IMHO

I also expect PC handhelds to keep on growing, as more devices appear at lower prices

Sony just doesn’t play well with others and they’re usually the last to give in. They did it with trophies, backwards compatibility, EA Access, and cross-play. Also, it would be nice if they made something other than third-person games. All of their main exclusives are third-person. Do something different lol.

Another interesting change is that the tablets market has reached a plateau.
And laptops are back in vogue (with the Macbook Neo a great example).
There's also going to be growth in the lower and mid range Windows laptops, all of which will be able to play games to a certain extent

People going to university next, they'll be more likely to buy a laptop nowadays.
With the prices of PC and consoles going up, they're more likely to just pick one when they go to school.

So the PC gaming market is going to grow even further

So yeah, Sony is really shooting themselves in the foot with this decision, just my honest opinion
