C is a deeply unsafe language to screw with, but it doesn't have the "16 different ways to do each thing" that C++ has. That's what drives me absolutely bonkers about C++. The fact that it's exactly as you said, a kitchen sink, and there's just too many "right ways" to do something. Ask someone how you do (thing) in C++ and they say (way)... unless you want (edge case) in which case, (way). Unless you are likely to have (corner case) in which case, (way)... but if you're running it on (platform) then maybe stick to (first way).

I can tell you like 3 different ways to code something very simple in JS for example, but it just seems like with C++ those different ways have multiplied out of control and each of them leads to a branching web of language features that just overwhelms my ability to follow. i like God Emperor of Dune (the 4th one), Heretics of Dune (5th one) was a slog fest for me, Chapterhouse Dune towards the end was freaking amazing, i feel like the series just needed one more book to wrap everything up

well in a way, the original halo novels (Fall of Reach) and (The Flood) do basically tell the stories of the original games, but i do genuinely recommend at least playing Halo 1, 2 and 3, and Reach. Those are genuinely classic games and fun as hell. But you dont have to take my word for it lol its just my opinion
