that's odd but if it is an old installer then that may be why unfortunately (with all the updates) I try to update with the most recent available version (so once a year now) and the updates on that should be fairly minimal as it is so new but Windows 10 no longer receives major updates so your only choice would be to move to Windows 11 for this (if your laptop supports it)

Windows 11 to me was completely fine until they started cramming the AI junk in. 10 got some of that with Edge but there you're not gutting out the OS and risking stability to rid yourself of it

I don't need a chatbot integrated with my OS, if I wanted that I'd have a shortcut to cleverbot on my taskbar (which I don't)

oh yeah, the AI thing is a bit annoying. Kind of wish it was an optional thing, as with a few other features.
Also, the only thing with 24H2 update if ever installing it fresh is you gotta watch out for Bitlocker as that will now be enabled by default. While it improves the security of what you have saved I really don't think that needs to be enabled out the box for most people. Maybe those with very important documents etc - they will likely know the workings of Bitlocker etc while the average user could potentially lock themselves out of their own system if not careful from what I understand about it 😱

proper, good full disk encryption is awesome, Android and iOS already do this, MacOS too iirc. Linux offers it and I use it with all of my Linux systems, I've never had a problem with any of those.
However, Bitlocker is that weird one that just seems like a royal pain to deal with.
Encryption works best when it's invisible to the user, and Bitlocker fails that when you boot your PC one day and it's asking for a code you probably didn't remember.

I think the biggest thing is that Bitlocker really was designed for enterprise, and it doesn't translate well to being thrown on end user machines.

None of my artistic workflows have been improved, my job hasn't been improved. AI to me looks is nothing but a chatbot and a toy. I don't want it, because it's of no value to me

Right, with regurgitated code that isn't being written resulting in buggier software and incomprehensible codebases no one understands because it's being blindly copy-pasted from ChatGPT. In the hands of experienced people I'm sure it makes things easier, but in most cases I've seen it's people who don't know what they're doing pumping out low quality slop - and that applies to every sector AI has sunk itself into.
Several OSS projects I watch have flat out banned AI generated code from their repos due to the problems surrounding properly licensing that code. It's impossible to copyright something that's been harvested from who knows where and fed into an algorithm.
Summarizing large amounts of information is a genuinely useful thing though, I don't disagree.
