You know I'm a little worried for my controller. Especially after playing Crash Bandicoot. That game requires long jumps which means you need to hold the A button for long periods. Sometimes the game doesn't even register the long press so you have to hold it down for an extra second

I completely screwed up my playthrough unintentionally when I first played the game, because the way the original worked was that when you entered a new area of the game, that area would be locked to the level you entered it at.

So if you ran across the map and explored a bunch at a low level, congrats, you've just made every region level 5. This is ruinous.

In the remaster, this is changed to be much more sensible.

Also, another dumb thing that I can't remember if it was changed or not is the fact that the bonus chest in the original would lock to the level of your character upon opening the chest. If you opened it at level 1 (a completely reasonable assumption), congrats, all your bonus gear is level 1.

According to an article I found, the level for the zone was still governed by a minimum and a maximum.

Meaning that if you enter a level 7-14 zone at level 2 it locks to level 7.

I guess it boils down to how it feels to play moreso than how it's explained on paper, because I remember it being a pretty big issue. It just isn't fun when entire regions of the map are locked to a very low level where everything dies in just a couple hits. It gets boring, not to mention the loot only gets marginally better, and going further, it means you will have bad loot going into higher-level areas, and it also discouraged exploration because it meant you'd kill your loot and XP.

The remaster's way of handling it is much better, having tried it myself. It still has minimum and maximum levels, but it will refresh every time you enter the area instead of locking permanently. You feel like you're getting stronger on a curve, not running into brick walls because the game decided to have a huge jump in levels.

Honestly I do get it though because there are definitely textures I both love and hate where most people can't feel any difference.
