To do 4K at 120 Hz, you need a Series X, a TV that supports those settings via HDMI (not DisplayPort) and an HDMI 2.1 cable like the one that comes included with the console, yes

But usually USB drives don't run Series XS optimized games. Only the Expansion Card works for those agmes.

You can transfer games between the USB drive and the internal drive of Series XS, yes.
Games will actually ask you to transfer it if you try to run it while it's on the external drive, if it's a game that can only run from the internal drive or expansion card.
