USB storage drives are only good for playing Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that are not Series XS optimized.
You can download games on it, but not play Series XS games.
Also, the USB drive needs to be USB 3.0 at the very least for it to work.

Unfortunately, once you play the game on Series XS, it automatically tries to download the XS version.
You cannot choose to use the Xbox One version.
