If you have the free trial version of FFXIV, then no, you don't have to pay and you get access to a ton of content that'll last you a very long time.

It's the paid versions that require a subscription. Do note that if you ever get a paid subscription, you can never go back to a free account.

Now there's options in the menu to favour graphics over performance, but you can also aim for 60fps, but I think that's a 120Hz display option only.

Performance mode: 60 FPS target, 4k resolution, standard settings, relying on dynamic resolution scaling.

Quality mode: 30 FPS*, 4k resolution, ultra settings, should not require dynamic resolution scaling.

*When connected to a 120Hz display, Quality mode will target 40 FPS.

*When connected to a 1440p display, the title will run at 1440p resolution at 60 FPS w/ ultra settings regardless of rendering mode

I don't play any games at 30fps anymore. I research all of my game purchases now to see if they run at least 60fps. The Xbox one was 11 years ago. Devs need to target 60fps minimum @alpine jolt

If a developer knows their game is always going to be capped at 30 FPS or 60FPS, they can assume that some things never happen more than 30 or 60 times a second. The code can be written with this as a logical assumption.

It may be faster compared to HDD, but the constant reading is loud and puts wear on the drive which isn't optimal, I would gladly take some more loading than a bad laser. And if you have the 4GB NAND it could potentially be a bit faster? (I think minecraft fits on it?). As for SSD, the xbox 360 doesn't benefit from one nor is it supported

In my eyes, it would be the same as Elite: Dangerous, or porting X to console. Elite: Dangerous is functional on a controller and you can play most content just fine, but the experience is just objectively worse than KBM or inputs with more buttons and more ability to do things.

One thing I was surprised about FFXIV is how you can hotkey SO many abilities.
You can put 8 skills on RT + ABXY/d-pad, 8 skills on LT + ABXY/d-pad, 8 more skills on LT+RT+ABXY/d-pad, 8 more skills on RT+LT+ABXY/d-pad, 8 more on double-tap RT+ABXY/d-pad, 8 more on double-tap LT+ABXY/d-pad.
That's already 48 skills you can quickly access.
Then more if you are ok with swapping hotbars, but that's more cumbersome.

The one thing that does bother me on XIV Online on console is choosing which enemy/ally to target. It's just... not good enough.

A large part of why I switched over to summoner on FFXIV is that it just straight up wasn't comfortable playing with how they've designed the hotbars and how you can't do exactly what I was wanting...for whatever reason. I wanted to use toggle bars but toggle bars don't work with the LT + RT middle bar. So I just had to hold the triggers down when using abilities and it just wasn't comfortable.

Summoner is a one-button class.
