Having separate pairs is too impractical for me and I'd end up just not wearing a pair and making things worse.

I have my computer monitor close to me on the right, but then I'm also looking at the TV in the room in front of me which is further away. I'd be constantly swapping between glasses to look from one screen to the next.

There's definitely an adjustment. Getting used to new glasses is awkward, and that's assuming the presciption is exactly right. These days, tech allows for better testing, but a prescription that's wrong can be worse than the bad eyesight you've adjusted to.

Yep. They screwed up my last ones, gave a bad fitting with the focal point in the wrong place and didn't make the lens edges correctly so it was causing light streaks.

I ended up going through three different frame types that they said were good for me, but ended up being horribly uncomfortable, slipping and giving me horrible headaches and eye strain.

After all that they said 'We may have the same frames you were using for your last glasses in stock somewhere. We can put the lenses in those if you want?' so I ended up with the same frames that actually fit.

TBH I didn't realise that changing frame shape can alter things so much. I assumed it was all about the actual grinding of the lens more so.

Varifocals need to have a certain frame size - or at least they have a minimum size they can't go below, otherwise you can't get the lenses made correctly. But it was also about the fitting itself of the frame.

They need to make sure the ends of the arms hook correctly around the ears. If one ear is any lower than the other, even by a tiny amount, then they need to adjust the focal point on one lens to match the eye position. The nose grip things can cause the focal point to shift if not right and result in eye strain because you're not looking through the correct part of the glasses.

They were also really digging into my nose and causing irritation.

They're stupidly expensive too. Varifocals add to the cost, then they try to push the anti-glare coating, they'll also try and push the different types of varifocal lens to reduce the area of distortion in the corners.

I also need reaction lenses. I'm not wasting money on prescription sunglasses, but I'm too used to reactions now so need to get them.

Yep. That stuff if done right doesn’t affect the whole picture and just some background objects. Problem is that its implementation into the engine (happened with the 1.3 or so ‘next gen’ patch) made the issue that every 10 or so seconds driving around in the city makes the picture extremely blurry. There are dozens and dozens of examples of it and only the xbox version is plagued by it.

usually VRS is a toggleable option on PC but iirc VRS in Cyberpunk 2077 on PC is either forced on with no way to turn it off or only in use with a driver level feature like AMD's Radeon Boost and this blurriness you are describing sounds similar to how that feature works but on console so that is interesting. Haven't seen many games actually show support for VRS (unless it is just enabled with no option to toggle in most games?) despite being DirectX 12. Like I thought that was one of the many baked in features for that API 🤔

I played a little AC Mirage on my PC after downloading the preview driver that allows me to use frame generation in about any game. To my surprise AC Mirage was recognised by this driver but Forza Motorsport isn't (also wanted to test frame generation on that game) 😦 With what I now know that I need at least 70 FPS for it to work properly I'm making sure to target just that and AC Mirage looks pretty good, even cranked up to maxed settings at 4K while pushing well over 100 FPS (thanks to frame generation)
