There's an addon for the PC version which allows you to use a controller, but it's only okay for basic questing and light stuff. It's not feasible for any end-game content at all and has a lot of issues.

To make the game fully playable with controller would result in the PC version being negatively impacted and dumbed down to accommodate it.

Digital purchases are tied to your account, not your Xbox. They will be available on any console you add your account to. All games available for Xbox One are available on Series X|S consoles, with the only major exception being Kinect games as Series X|S consoles do not have a Kinect input.

As for backwards compatible games, such as Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games, if you bought them on Xbox One, then they'll be fine, but for any you may have bought on an Xbox 360 console, you should check the backwards compatibility list available on the Xbox website: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backward-compatibility.

For future reference, Series X|S games are only playable on the internal storage or a Seagate expansion card. All other games can be installed and played from regular external storage devices.

Replaced the batteries with new batteries? Prior problems? I've destroyed a lot of controllers by raging there's a lot of ways to fix one depending on problem

Honestly all I can suggest is to go to the Red Lobster, farm star fragments from the big enemy there as well as ergo from all 4 to buy max for each throwable (that you can carry, not storage box, that would take forever), buy a few friendship wishstones, and go at it.

Try to kill the first phase as quickly as possible, and then during second phase, pop your wishstone to heal your specter (if it dies at any point during the first phase, restart), and just...start throwing everything at the boss. It's cheap, sure, but...a win is a win. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
