Criterion developed one of the most used engines in the PS2 era. Then they got bought by EA with the promise that the Renderware engine would still be upgraded and updated. Which didn't happen. Made some Burnout and NFS games. Then they were a support BF team for a while. Tried their hands on NFS once which unfortunately didn't sell but still was the best NFS game in a while and is now purely BF.

Lies of P doesn't stop adding new game mechanics til you've beaten three bosses, good lord. Then you get an entire new enemy type with different varieties too, so you have to adapt everything you've learned to deal with them 😅

If there's one main thing I dont like about soul games it the random dmg over time stuff everywhere.

The sewers has one big area with poison you can basically avoid by going around it. And another with a boss where you can drain the poison from another area. Same goes with some of the later areas where you can drain the poison by dropping some fire on it via a fireplace or some sort

Sometimes dodging makes some bosses too easy. Sometimes perfect parry makes them too easy. But most of the time it's perfect parry.

Perfect parry a few times... breaks their weapon... they get staggered... do fatal attack.
Repeat until dead

The time from when the attack is being charged to when they hit is always the same from the enemy. There is no different times like Elden Ring.

The only enemy type I absolutely hate in Lies of P are the shield ones.

Lies of P copied a lot from Sekiro and Bloodborne. But not really quite right imo. The readability of the bosses are as good as Bloodborne but the Sekiros perfect parry makes it absolutely trivial at times.
The refresh your health you got taken via parrying system is bit similar to what bloodborne does but since it's tied to blocking attacks with a parry it doesn't feel quite as rewarding and "dangerous" since after you blocked an attack you can easily go for an attack and get the health back.

It should have copied the Sekiro style bosses imo. Go with different timed attacks. Sometimes long charge. Sometimes fast charge. So that it gets a bit harder.

Parrying is just as hard as it is in Dark Souls, so if you're garbage at parrying, be prepared to rely solely on running around and rolling.

Enemies have a charge time. And it's the exact same time for every enemy. If you see them raise a hand... it will stand still for a specific time. Then the animation of the attack is fast and short. So you basically have to wait half of that "charge" animation and then press the button and you will always get a perfect parry.

The reason I like Sekiro's so much is that...relative to other games, the parry window is not only huge (again, relatively, it's still a small window), but it's also very reactionary instead of predictive. It's...paradoxically a lot easier to pull off for people like me who usually suck at parrying.

Still not easy, but the time you have to press the button is pushed back, basically, which falls about within my reaction speed.
