@spring thistle It does not matter much what you play in order, but I would say you should hit 1 before 2 and 3 if you don't have a lot of patience. Personally, I think Fable 2 is the best in the series, but each of them are great regardless. It is however easier to stomach an upgrade than it is a downgrade, so I say give 1 a stab real quick, but 2 might be your true love.

The ability to just capture a rubber-band selection of the screen rather than the whole thing, BUT I just found out now that (by default) CMD-SHIFT-4 does that and I feel stoopid.

Input lag: when you press a button on a controller this has to be registered by the console. Skimming a lot of technical detail but you press a button and the console and game should respond "frame perfect" meaning the button press was registered on the same image currently being drawn. However, input lag can mean that image takes milliseconds to display and at 60FPS/60Hz, each frame is on screen for 16mS. So anything longer than this will mean what you're seeing already happened, the display is "behind" the game. This is easiest to explain in rhythm games like guitar hero where notes on a bar must be hit to the beat. If the image is behind, your input will always be after the beat happened, missing stuff. In fighting games this can be significantly worse.

Tl;Dr: input lag of 16mS or multiples of this represents 1 frame of input at 60FPS. So 64mS lag represents 4 frames of input lag.

"Can I just buy higher frame rate monitors to fix the problem?" Generally yes, but with "but sometimes" attached. At 60Hz, 16mS or lower will be the "sweet spot". Let's assume a "bad" display is 160mS of lag, so about 10 frames. You get a 120Hz and this has 80mS of lag. That's still 10 frames of lag. At 250mS of lag, it's around 20 frames and will "feel" as behind.

"My display is 1mS response time". LCD/OLED tech is never this fast, you're confusing pixel refresh rate with lag. The time it takes a pixel to change from e.g. white to green is also measured in mS and used as a marketing point. It's not the same thing, but will help with image retention, aka ghosting between frames.

CRTs Because the electron gun to generate the image is directly driven by the analogue input signal. There is 0 lag on CRTs but modern consoles are incompatible.

The best advice is to use rtings and scroll to the gaming section of reviews. This has input lag in various modes in mS. They also do comprehensive purchasing guides.

I use Quicksilver so just hitting ctrl space and then hitting s bring it up for me
