GoW 2018 is pretty epic. Bought it originally on my PS4 Pro but didn't get that far in it before selling the console back in 2019. Super glad it later released on PC as I've been able to play through it at higher frame rate and settings and overall because of that it made the game just that bit better. Still to complete it though 😅

But the fact is that even though one console may be more powerful, each game is still built with different game engines that might be better optimized for one platform or another. They also still have different strengths and weaknesses that might help developers offload some of the game's processes to a dedicated component, and the consoles themselves may provide systems for developers to better optimize specific areas of the game. Each console also runs a different OS with additional features.

This is also why, as you said, sometimes the same game has better performance on PS5, but in other games it may run better on Series X.

The Series S is definitely a good console for the price. I do think the Switch is a good console as well for on the go. The other consoles do look interesting as well to what they offer. Be interesting to what the PS5 Pro does offer though.

Realism is really only necessary for certain games. Hellblade, for example, would...be much less impactful if it was super stylized.

I mean, outside of outdated lighting and AA, Metroid Prime held up pretty flawlessly up until a couple years ago. Damn near 16 years of looking great even compared to more modern games is a real testament to the power of the GameCube as well as the skill of Retro.

Yeah Metroid Prime's control scheme, while fine, has aged...not as well as I had hoped.

The trilogy on the Wii is what I would recommend most people play if they are bodily (and financially, Christ on a bike is it expensive) able to do so. If not, it's not like the controls are impossible to get used to. We all did it back then.

I have the S23 Ultra and I'm tremendously happy with it.
The S23 Plus has a different camera module, but still quite capable. And performance + battery life on it is excellent!

I will say that being allowed to share a family member's membership is amazing, If you have a large extended family that you get along with and wouldn't mind collaboratively shopping with, you can spread out the cost of membership that way, or at least get more value from it.
