Make sure you've done the quests to unlock the Runecarver all the way, then just a mythic 0 or a +2 should give you the drop
Drop rate increases the higher you go but I always got it first try on mythic/key after they hotfixed drop rates

When your priest drops a 50% dr barrier for you and you walk out, get dropped to 20% and use SI out of panic, that's biggest loss you could take
So #1 thing is setting up your interface with something that lets you know what cds enemies have rolling, and what cc your healer is on
You need to look at those things
if your healer is in major CC (hoj, fear, poly, hex, trap) you either CC back and counterpressure or go bear form
if enemy has cds rolling you can try to kite or you sit bear form, or sometimes you can manfight back by trading a defensive
Depends on the cd, you have to learn what the damage windows are for the common specs at least
