Not knowing your level of play, it's really all positioning. Just kiting to create space is fine and nice. Where you start and where you move to is really really important, and what these spots should be is gonna depend on the comps and change over the course of the game.
So when you're trying to position defensively, you wanna kite the melees away from enemy healer. Use WC and Typhoon and other CC to create some space, try to get a Cyclone or fake a kick, and move towards a pillar on your side of the map and bait DPS away from their healer. If they chase you could be in a position to use the rest of your CC on the DPS around the pillar, run around the corner and get CC on the healer.
