Random bgs and skirmishes dont have anything behind the matchmaking afaik.
412 is rly low and getting pvp gear (or higher ilvl pve gear) will make it a lot more manageable, but also feral is a bit of a glass cannon right now, and in this game in general you either need a healer or you need to hard avoid damage to stay alive.
You can get crafted "Obsidian Combatant" gear that scales to 424 in pvp, you can buy it on the AH, armor, ring, necklace and trinkets, but not weapon. Having 2 pvp trinkets equipped is very important.
After that you can buy honor gear that goes to 437 in pvp, and conquest gear that you get mostly from rated scales to 450.
