I think it kinda just deflated activity early on because of how pointless it feels. For folks on both end of the spectrum. The guys queueing into awc nonstop and the awc guys gaining 2 rating a win. And it ends up being like a self fulfilling prophecy where deflation causes guys to not queue which lowers activity which drives slower deflation.

Tbh I think only reason why MMR caps should exist is to kinda keep some type of clean on runaway inflation so the band of rating isn’t so wide that people have a hard time match making. I had that issue when I was r1 on ladder in another game and the algo searched within 1000 rating and I was like 1200 more than the next highest person online queueing. Aside that I don’t see a functional reason for hard caps in the first place unless I’m missing something
