i have two 10 metre copper cores leading out of my first floor window. One goes right from my sitting room window, across to my kitchen window and up the window frame across the top and back down, The left side core runs across the top of various sky tv and old tv ariels and down the drain pipe and around the side of the house facing north for about 10 inches and ends up about 11 feet off the ground facing north. The windows face south. I had it plugged into this 6DB thing which i was told would amplify the signal but today it isnt working well. I have attached the ends of both cores and inserted into ariel hole and am picking up things again. I live not far from Teeside Tower and not sure if im getting it or not. I can get newcastle approach most days going out to 20 miles, but i wonder if anyone could advise me how i can maximise my signal. Im brand new to this, but its great watching and listening to all the training going on at Teesside and watching it on screen. ive attached image of the "amplifier" and todays configuration. Please dont laugh!!. I dont have an attick space also.
#Can anyone advise me about this core Antenna set up?

Hi. Airband voice is not what this server is about. We track the positions of aircraft by receiving signals from their transponders and feeding them to the ADSBx servers for aggregation https://www.adsbexchange.com/what-is-the-exchange/. Some of us do airband voice too, but it's not something that tech support is provided for here.
If the second picture is the "6DB thing" - that's not going to amplify your signal. It's a splitter, intended for sharing an antenna between multiple receivers. Properly used, it'll basically send half of the signal to each receiver. At least that's what it looks like - can't really tell for sure looking at the back (there should be a label on the other side).
Your antenna is pretty awful for what you're trying to do. You want something that's vertically oriented, and ideally designed for the band. Google for airband antenna designs and products, and try to find something that'll work for you.
If you get interested in tracking aircraft positions, check out https://www.adsbexchange.com/ways-to-join-the-exchange/
thank you, and apologies for the oversight. I am very interested in tracking aircraft, and was looking at the Janet posts and AF2. i Spend a lot of time tracking different military and commercial training at my local airport, so i will hang fire in this discord and see what i can learn. You are correct it is a splitter and heres the front. So i should ditch using this? thanks for the advice
Yeah, that's not going to do anything for you right now. You might find another use for it some day, so throw it in your "junk box" just in case 😉
i just built a halfway dipole i think, with correct measurements. Its unclear what to do with the two 53 cms bits of wire so ive just connected them together and wrapped insulated coax at the correct length around the base of a bamboo cane. seems to be working ok but the videos could have been clearer. thanks for your advice
"this will act as an amplifier" - My internet HAM Radio friend... loool
If that worked as an amp, I'd be a VERY happy man. I have a junk box with many of those and even some 1:4 splitters. The probelm is that you lose signal with those things, especially the larger ones, if they aren't powered. For cable TV or internet it's not that bad (unless you have multiple of these in the path).
