I'm getting pretty frustrated with staying signed into Premium on my mobile devices (iOS/iPadOS) and attempting to troubleshoot. According to multiple posts (#1167673631845916723 message / #1213865359153565747 message ) here in Discord, the alleged duration of a Premium login cookie is 30 days, but even when signing in on a desktop browser I'm not seeing any cookies with a 30-day lifetime. Tbh the lifetime of the cookie isn't as big a deal as the fact that the webapp always imposes the CAPTCHA after each successful login, and especially on a mobile device, completing it can be a major pain in the ass.
#Premium login cookie name?

NOT AN EXPERT NOT AN EXPERT: but are you using a VPN or a proxy server ? Both things might (or do) affect the longevity of the cookie…
…also are you using a browser like brave? Out of the box brave manages cookies, cache, etc a bit differently than other browsers…
That's okay, I appreciate the recommendations, but in this case they do not apply. Was hoping to get someone affiliated with adsbexchange to answer my question, but I just learned that they sold out to a private equity firm a while back, so it seems their focus is more on making money than supporting their users. Guess I'll won't be renewing my Premium subscription next go around.
More info about the acquisition here: https://www.rtl-sdr.com/ads-b-exchange-acquired-by-private-firm-jetnet
Today news has come out that ADS-B Exchange (ADSBx) founder Dan Streufert has sold ADSBx to a private firm called JETNET for (an estimated) $20 million. Dan was the sole owner of ADSBx, and after the sale he remains employed by JETNET. JETNET is a firm that provides aviation market intelligence to business customers. UTICA, NY - JETNET, a leadin...
The person who would know the answer is on vacation, ADSBx is no different then it was before the sale there is just the resources and backing to make it better as shown by recent improvements.
Hi @grim nimbus . We are working on an improvement to the "cookie" method that will allow premium users to use any device. I'm sorry we weren't able to answer your question more quickly. We are a small team.
I'm no web expert, but using the chrome developer tools I believe the related cookie names will be "adsbx_subscriber" an "adsbx_subscriber_exp".
i MAY have found somewhat of a workaround on safari on iphone, but i haven't figured out exactly why or how it works, whether it can be replicated on other devices or browsers, etc...but might (unlikely but i'll take the chance of looking silly) provide some insight.
editing to add: this unlikely "solves" OP's issue, but maybe it'll help someone else.
on iphone > safari > open https://globe.adsbexchange.com while connected to home/local wifi
legend > select one of the (premium) map types
exit out of safari/switch apps/whatever
leave house/bunker/treehouse so you're no longer on your local network
open safari again > premium features still active yay
Not sure why one's location/network connection/IP address/etc. would make a difference with respect to session duration. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, if you are experiencing issues from one location to the next, the issue is almost 100% guaranteed to be on your end unless all "like" users are seeing the same behavior.
all good - I appreciate the reply.
my cookie knowledge isn't great, but i feel like they CAN store information specific to your geographic location. granted i am not sure whether this applies for the premium cookie.
that said: i believe i misunderstood the issue in your case to mean that you were having trouble when away from your local network. :\
also, i've never encountered the CAPTCHA when loading adsb... seems almost like it thinks you're a bot if it's happening each time...?
location should have no issues on the cookie, most common cause of this issue is security software, privacy browsers, or software designed to clean up your tracks. There have been no other reports of issues and I use a paid account myself without issue.
you would not see the captcha unless you use a paid account.
oh gotcha... thanks for sharing your knowledge! not having any issues, but always enjoy learning more about how these types of things function in case i do encounter issues in the future.
Cookies can definitely store that info, but unless the web devs went to a LOT of trouble to actually code a way to interrogate an existing cookie for the IP address last used to access the site, then a way to compare that with the user's current IP, then that's not a factor. Also, most of the time if a system is going to track the last login location, it'll do it on the backend.
right, but having to do a CAPTCHA at each login, especially when my sessions don't seem to last more than a few days, gets annoying real fast.
Thank you for helping me understand cookies a bit more! Though admittedly this whole convo has made me crave endless cookies. 🍪
