Inevitables : Enforcers of Cosmic Law

Face the Inevitable : Statblocks for Mechanus's enforcers of cosmic law

#

Inevitables are great, and its a shame that we only have the Kolyarut and the Marut. Most statblocks I've seen dont feel like proper inevitables. So I've created my own adaptions from 3.5, Minus the Andryhut, who I might add later(but might not). These guys have the classic inevitable traits:Stupidly powerful, automatically hits, and has a rechargable edict with little/no way to resist it.

Included are:

Varakhut. Tasked with preventing the gods positions from being usurped. Notably, a great ally if your trying to stop someone from ascending to godhood, unless they actually suceed, at which point the Varakhut will turn on you for attacking a god.

Quarut. Haste and Slow are small potatoes, but too many wishes, divine interventions, and general time fuckery can get you a visit from these guys who put you in Time Out. (litteraly. you are put in temporal stasis forever.)

Zelekhut. In lore, its a bit unclear what exactly their reason for existing is, but these guys ensure sentences are carried out, either by the courts of mechanus or sigil or just in general. They used to be able to be summoned, so they seem to be lower-class inevitables who the average government can call upon for help with tracking down particularly tricky criminals.

These are all free to use, although I would ask that you credit me if you post any sessions or vods with them, even if you bury it somewhere in the description. Not required, just prefferred.

#

if you feel like these creatures aren't Inevitable enough for you, consider adding this trait to all of them:

Fast Reconstruction. The Inevitable regains 20 HP at the start of its turn if it has atleast 1 HP left.

If its too much, maybe bump it up down to 15, 10, or even 5 for lesser inevitables like the Zelekhut.

#

IMPORTANT NOTE
Sincerest Apologies, but I forgot to give these guys immunity to poison damage. That is absolutely supposed to be there. Please give these statblocks immunity to poison damage when using them.

Hmm, looks quite good actually, definitely feels like a inevitable and something you don't want to mess with.

merry dawn
#

aww, ty! I'm pretty proud of these guys

#

The zelekhut is the one im least sure of, since their exact purpouse is a little vague(as far as I can tell they only exist to carry out the laws of those who summon them? Im not sure they serve primus specifically)

but yeah, they feel pretty Inevitable to me

#

Inevitables aren't unbeatable

but they are the only reason that things like the laws of physics aren't just polite suggestions

#

they're the reason things like life and death and the passage of time still happen in a world where magic can upened the natural order in an instant

because for universal laws to exist, there has to be universal enforcers.

#

I added axiomatic mind because I feel like you shouldnt be able to compel an inevitable

#

aif anyone has any ideas for custom inevitables, btw

Like, other universal laws not covered

#

or similar things in that vein

#

Im happy to take a crack at that

#

I need to occupy the monkeys in my brain somehow

river coral
#

Well I was musing about playable inevitables in some fashion, like a weaker variant or a new type of inevitable for the player's to use. I got this idea because I was going over monstrous races from dmsguild again and how I wished the newer monsters were done for that.

merry dawn
#

I've seen a few people do warlock pacts with the inevitable, or have a damaged inevitable, for example

#

But I assume you mean a playable race?

#

I can try to drum something up, but it'll be hard to make them properly feel Inevitable without making them too OP...

#

I'd say the Zelekhut is actually perfect for this, tho

#

that said, the monstrous races are mostly for

#

weaker monsters.

#

monsters who aren't defined by their race alone in their statblock, basically

river coral
# merry dawn I'd say the Zelekhut is actually perfect for this, tho

Probably! And I am not disagreeing with you on that and modrons are right there if someone wants something tangentially similar to the inevitables but I just...kinda hate them? But monstrous races on dmsguild did playable monsters elegantly enough I think, it even did a small guide on making each 'race' weaker or stronger.

merry dawn
#

fair, but like

#

you cant do a playable dragon.

#

you can do a kobold

#

you cant do a playable lich

#

you can do a reborn

#

if the CR is partially just from what it is

#

Once again, I cangiv eit a shot, but Inevitables main thing is that they dont follow the normal laws of DND

They dont rol to hit, and they odnt roll for damage

Even giving a player a once-per-long rest ability to do that is on the level of an epic boon

#

And if it just improves their chances to hit then it doesnt really feel inevitable

river coral
#

Again that's true, not disagreeing at all. And of course I could just make a race up similar enough to them with the numbers filled off.

merry dawn
#

True, true

#

...Well, actually

#

maybe you could give them a weak-as-fuck attack

#

that doesnt require a roll to hit

#

flat damge

#

specifically cannot be buffed

#

or trigger additional damage rolls.

#

Kind of similar to aasimar radiant shroud

#

automatic damage isnt unheard of

#

Give me a bit, I'll see what i can do

river coral
#

Thanks! Didn't want to bother you with this bob, but I genuinely appreciate the help. Truth be told I could have looked at the monitors or aeons from pathfinder for inspiration but hindsight is 20/20.

merry dawn
#

no bother at all, it really helps my self-esteem to see people interested in stuff I do

#

and I did ask for suggestions

#

so sincerely, not a problem, and please continue to

river coral
#

👍

#

Come to the think of it... you could do a bit with inevitables even not on the playable front, the spell compendium had a bunch of really flavorful spells for summoning inevitables.

merry dawn
#

however, I'd only really allow my plaeyrs to use Call Zelekhut, I think

#

Zelekhut are the ones, in my head, who are contractable

#

like, thats their job

#

Kolyarut might be, but i feel like they're harder to get access to

#

Marut I dont think yous hould b eable to summon at all

#

they decide when they show up

#

technically all of them can also be arbiters of contracts, I believe

#

but still

river coral
#

True, and back in the day it was a higher level of play, but a zelekhut should be fine, it's literally in their job portfolio.

merry dawn
#

yeah
you cant cast spells beyond a certain level, but I could see a higher level spell being call Zelekhut...

#

..wait

#

nevermind

#

its just planar ally.

#

Its just casting planar ally but more specific.

#

theres not a point in making that its own spell

#

but eys, I'd say that you should allow your players to sumon Zelekhuts at most, and they had better have a compelling arguement for why they arent the ones breaking the law and the person they're targetting is

river coral
#

True, the devil is in the details and they should have a compelling reason for calling one. Of course if they hate themselves they could summon modrons instead but who likes those godless abominations. Honestly archons at least have the celestial factor and are cooler in design :v.

But yeah, you do good work bob, would not mind at all seeing your version of a marut down the line.

merry dawn
#

Hmm
I hadnt considered remaking the marut

#

since thats what I based these statblocks off

#

but maybe ill give it. atry

river coral
#

Fair, but you definitely are skilled at this, they are not half bad at all.

merry dawn
#

..I just realized that I forgot to give these guys immunity to poison damage.

#

that is entirely my bad.

river coral
#

It's all good bob,no biggie.

merry dawn
#

Introducing the Corrut!
Not in its final stage, but heres a race with some Inevitable flavor. They can't quite ignore the laws of Fate entirely like normal inevitables can, but they can do something pretty similar.

merry dawn
river coral
merry dawn
#

fair enough, although they probably all look pretty different

river coral
#

And that's fair, that could be cool in of itself.

merry dawn
#

Alright, added some flavor

#

they mostly look like inevitables with missing parts
sometimes they might just look like warforged, sometimes they'll look like animatronic skeletons

#

heres an example one who's repurpoused some of their fallen-off parts as weapons

merry dawn
#

Introducing the new member of the family:The Arkhut! Tasked with making sure Magic isnt abused. Too many Wish Spells pushing the letter? Shenanigans devaluing the magic spell component economy? Using weird spell interactions to break the unvierse or commit war crimes? You have Lost Magic Privileges. Where can you find this Arkhut? Why, under these very words!

#

The Arkhut has the same optional features as the other inevitables. I recommend a rate of 20 if you use fast reconstruction, since its about the level of a Marut.

merry dawn
#

#
