ok, prolly just hese for now
surprised that doesnt include the amount of features at each level
the rest of them found here: https://discord.com/channels/113801089362558983/1192490146881359942
thats this table
Ah
which isn't in the dumpster yet, cos I have a bit more work to do around it
That one's helpful here imo
It's probably more helpful with the key too thinking on it xD
hhhmmmm. yes, i should add "Electronic Arts" to my class at 5th level
EA Sports. It's in the game.
alright, put an EA at level 5 and Subclass features at 6, 11, and 17 (like Monk)
Keep in mind that decision may very well change during development
Code of the Warrior: Dragon Ball Z-based class with ki blasts, an overclocked Powered Form, and a Spirit Bomb as the final ability
Code of the Shinobi: Like how Arcane Trickster has versatile ways to use Mage Hand and a Wizard class from Valda's Spire of Secrets is versatile with Magic Missile, you now have versatile ways to use the spell Mirror Image, basically turning it into your own Shadow Clone Jutsu, with a bit of Shadow Monk and ninja flavorings too
Code of the Planets: Storm Barbarian and Genie Warlock meet the Sailor Scouts as you learn to cast elemental spells and gain an elemental aura while in your powered form
Code of the Spirit:
Interesting enough
Fairly open ended
Lot of room for more subs in future
But I would like to know what the story difference between these is
What makes codes different from one another
i dont have anything for story
I think players would need some direction for how their character became a Codex Knight
though I did want to do something based on Kill la Kill
If you're only designing it for your table, I'd agree with that point
But if you intend for others to use your brews, they need to be self explanatory
Never seen it, do tell
Isn't this based one one anime in particular?
I kinda assumed it was
I'm not cultured in that aspect, apologies
yeah, the entire class is Anime
Warrior is DBZ, Planets is Sailor Moon, Shinobi is Naruto, Spirit is JoJo
Shadow the Hedgehog as an anime girl with alien clothing, very nsfw
I meant in what way is this based on that lol
i didnt have any ideas
This is why I'm not cultured in anime
By any rate
Kill la Kill is also canonically Shadow's favorite anime
So you want the class to be like...a template for anime subclasses?
the entire point of it is that it's my own version of building an anime character
Hm
I mean, that's fine. You did choose some of the easier anime systems to replicate
oh hey, kill la kill was my first ever anime
That being said, I have not seen 90% of those references
anyway, there is someone who already made a jjba inspired class called the channeler
invisible pet that does things
and technically there already is a JoJo subclass in Astral self Monk
Tulok the Barbrarian did 2 JoJo builds with AS Monk
Tbh I wouldn't really say astral self is a JoJo subclass, unless your stand is a punch punch one
Like, ghost arms ain't the same as a WW1 airplane
yeah its mainly the punchy bois
As in; without the subclass?
Yeah
and theres so many ways to build a punch Stand with WOTC stuff
A barbarian without his path is still a barbarian after all
lemme get a list of Tulok's JoJo builds
Strong angry guy
You could move subclass to level 1 tbh
^that's what I was getting at
Cos it seems like it's pivotal to the story of the character
But I'd assume you'd be like... a 'built different' person, as kids these days say
Like, someone physically enhanced and whatnot before they truly unlock a specific path, etc etc
Jotaro was Open Hand Monk, Ancestral Guardian Barbarian, and Battlemaster Fighter
DIO is Astral Self Monk with Death Cleric
Josuke is Echo Knight Fighter with Lore Bard
Giorno is Astral Self Monk, Dreams Druid, and Battlemaster Fighter
Bruno is also Echo Knight Fighter with Lore Bard
anyways
Might be better to have subclass at 1 then
i dont vibe with that
In that case you'll have to figure out a decent answer to this question
Classes like Cleric, Sorc, Warlock get their subs at 1 as the class doesnt really exist without em
A warlock without a patron, a sorcerer without a source of magic, and a cleric without a god
Dont work
yeah, duh
So a codex knight
what about a monk without its subclass
Will have to somehow work
Without their code
A monk without their subclass is just a boring monk
The subclass just makes them more interesting
Most of the flavour of monk is captured in the base class though
what neon is saying here is that a monk's source of power is not derived from their subclass
(and using that same argument, people say pallies should have their sub at 1st as well)
I'd be willing to have Pally at 2nd, given they wouldnt have spellcasting for their expanded spell list at 1st
And it'd make sense they get their most iconic power when they take their oath
Ah well though
find an essential mechanic that matches the niche and fantasy of your class and put it in at 1st or 2nd level. this should be the defining feature of your class, we call it a "core" feature
you can also put in "rock" features at these levels, "rock" features are ones that are still important to your class but not as important as the "core" feature
then, with a sub at 3rd, that's when you build mechanics and themes that are built off of those "core" and "rock" features
for example, the "core" feature of the barbarian is rage, and a "rock" feature for barbarians is reckless attack
so barbarians' fantasy, niche, and gameplay patterns are defined by their rage, which is altered in some way when they get their sub at 3rd, and they use reckless attack to further augment their gameplay patterns
the core feature is obviously the powered form
which i put at Level 2
so what could be a "rock" for that
im not good with coming up with ideas
It's not about being good at it
It's about trying, getting feedback, iterating on it, and repeat
Follow a few questions from yesterday and try to come to answers. Start with the Codex.
Is it physical?
Where does it come from?
How does it get put into the character?
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 🤔
I do have an idea on lore, but I don't want to make it sound like a Chunni warlock
gonna put Powered Form at Level 3
back to this
need help figuring out the class features
Ooh, fancy
What's the gist?
anime character class
you can check it out here
Well, it's pretty bare-bones. What are your goals?
don't have much, just creating a sort of anime character class
it'll become much more apparent by the time the subclasses show up but rn i'm trying to have it stand on its own
🤷
I feel like "anime character" is quite broad. Any particular characters you have in mind?
its mainly dependent on its subclass so rn I'm trying to figure out stuff for the class as a whole
