Spells That Don't Suck has **102 **reworks for underwhelming spells in the base game. Some nerfs, some buffs, some just-make-it-functional, all major improvements.

Is there like, a reason making a new thread each time, rather than updating the old?
(not judgy, just curious)

unique agate
#

partly just mirrors the way I'm handling feedback & release in other channels, partly tbh I don't really get why folks are doing the long-lived threads in here, it's always felt like a really odd approach

It's about engagement.
Look at all the threads with contiguous brew, and multibrew vis split single brews

#

there's orders of magnitude more engagement

unique agate
#

ngl, I avoid those permathreads like the plague

#

I don't want to have to catch up on 4000 comments to be useful

elfin quail
#

you don't have to catch up on 4k posts though - it's only the last few dozen usually, same as a smaller thread

unique agate
#

Alright, much as I hate it, let's try the long-lived thread thing. Today's the v7.0 release! 125 spells replacing problems in the base game, all free to reuse in your own brews without any licensing/permissions problems.

Hey maybe im late on this, but doesnt Adaptation kinda eclipse Magic Weapon?

unique agate
#

hm, it maybe does a bit. it's not different from Alter Self in that regard, but Alter Self was self-only

wintry rover
#

alter self didnt give a bonus, and was concentration like magic weapon

#

maybe Adaptation should be concentration too? or maybe make the damage dice of the natural weapon 2d6, but it's not magic and doesn't have that bonus

unique agate
#

alter self did have a magic weapon bonus on it

#

we'll take a look - on release days, Omega and I gather up all the feedback and review it together

wintry rover
#

oh so it does

#

well speaks to how much I use the spell lol

#

ig it's debatedly fine then?

unique agate
#

both alter self and magic weapon are pretty niche; our view was that alter self was more disappointing, but we've had folks ask about magic weapon before, so it can probably mget attention

I like how Earthen Hand mimics Bigby's Hand. I really like the new Ice Knife, it looks really good from a glance. Looking at Oakenhide, the "At Higher Levels" says that when you cast the spell, your AC increases by 1, which makes it seem like this extra AC is different from the calculation the spell provides. Is this intended?

Ah. I assumed so, but it wasn't clear per se.

unique agate
#

I'll think if there's a better phrasing we could use

Out of curiosity, why choose to reanimate a zombie over a skeleton?

unique agate
#

Tankier, mostly

#

Undead fortitude and no bludgeoning vuln

jolly hinge
#

Sorry, I meant to say the other way around.

#

Why a skeleton over a zombie?

unique agate
#

immunity to poison & exhaustion - but this points out that zombies should get a speed reduction which we forgot to put in the template

#

(also, your DM might reasonably say thoroughly-decayed corpses aren't eligible to be zombies anymore)

Do you mind if I try these in my campaign?

#

I can try to get you some feedback as we use the content

unique agate
#

absolutely! that's what they're for

#

we wouldn't be posting 'em if we didn't want people using them

hard nest
#

Fair enough indeed just wanted confirmation

Not really a comment or critique, but I just want to say thanks for making this cc-by! 👍
