so i've got this object... ive painted supports and filled the rest with support blocker.

ive put in a support blocker cylinder

im still getting supports inside my object

help ?

do i need to manually make a blocker shape for the inside to fill in the entire space to make sure all supports are external ?

do support blockers just suck ?

am i fundamentally wrong ?

You are right, You are fundamentally wrong

ehat you consider the inside is not the inside, it is the outside. it is within the boundaries of that shape, but when it is connected to the outside, it becomes the outsides.
A ball consisting of 1 outer shell with infill inside is a solid object, the slicer will only put supports on the outside so no supports in the infill, even if it is 0%.
If you have a ball that consists of an outer shell and an inner shell with infill between them and a ballshape void, the void is treated as outside the solid and the slicer wants to support the top. what you need to do is setting manual support, and paint the spots on the outside of that wormlike thing where you want supports, if you don't use automatic support the only supports that are created are those you painted.

you just need to choose support type as tree (manual)

and only paint with green where you want to support

#

isn't that what you want?

if the support blokker touches the inside of that tubelike thing, it will blok supports from forming. a cylinder inside that tubething, wil not block any support that doesn't start or finish on the solid. if it did, it would be able to cut out a section of the support leaving either the top in midair or the bottom.if you put a cilinder support blocker around that thing, completely covering it, no supports will be created.

you are just using it wrong not what it is intended for, that tube thing requires manual support with supports painted on the outside, then nothing will be created inside the tube.

As others have mentioned, manual support painting would definitely be the easiest way to solve your problem here with a model like this.

Yeah, you can tell this model wasn't designed for FDM 3D printing, so it's easy to see why certain things may be a struggle to get to work the way they are wanted.

haha for sure, i made the model 😄 ultimately i'll resin print it but its always nice to throw stuff on the fdm for testing

you can try to create areas without supports but its a bit sketchy
