#Z-Seam issues with Collapsible Swords

try scarf seam, but try a little test print first so you don't spend hours printing another sword to find it fails.
Have to say, I'm shocked you worked through that whole guide that quickly.
I've already looked at it before since i had some z-seam issues before, but didn't realize it was this bad. There is a youtube video from TeachingTech i've already watched
If you can't get your seams better than that then this print might not be for you. Like pretty much all print in place parts, it relies on fairly tight tolerances. You could try increasing your x/y hole compensation but that's really a workaround, not the right fix.
I think I might of found the smoking gun, but trying another test print. I did have Wipe when retracting on in the setting overrides.
The guide doesn't say to disable wipe while retracting though?
Very bottom
There is some double negatives going on there, but what the guide says is do not turn off both retract on layer change and wipe while retracting. It doesn't say to turn them off.
They are trying to say
Retract on layer change off + Wipe while retracting off = Bad
hmm fair point. I will see how the test print works and go from there. Also trying thicker outer walls to see
It can take some time to work through the tests but you can likely get a nearly smooth seam.
Also, if it's just the bottom layer that is stuck, which happens due to a little elephant's food sometimes, you can usually put some nippers in there and cut the connection between layers and then the sword might extend.
Worst case you break it, but it's already unusable so no harm in trying.
the bottom of the sword was seperated and the parts wiggled freely, however the seam was biding up along the blades
It's worth breaking it open to check out the rest of the blade edge just to verify it's the seam. The other thing that goes wrong with those is that sometimes they don't get enough cooling on the blade edge because it's so small and it curls/ripples, causing it to look terrible and also to not break free easily.
