are you using Wayland or x11 system for your distro and what kinda kernel are you running ?? i use Garuda OS which is also arch and i have used x11 and then i used Octopi to install orca-slicer-git which runs the newest beta version and installed it. i put a screenshot of the package i used for Orca slicer here so you can see yourself. and when everything is compiled and installed (It will take a while to compile the code and install it). i then used the "WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 /usr/bin/orca-slicer" or you can try "WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 /usr/bin/orca-slicer" and see if any of those have a difference so you can start the application and choose the printer and such you have setup and then restart the app and use it. note you cant log in on the main screen when you start it since that is grayed out. you cant seee the Device tab or Project tab either and some menu's on the Prepare tab wont show anything or it will show as a grey box and you cant do anything about it other then live with it ! but you can import profiles and such if you need that and use the settings to adjust things and slice it and then either export it to a usb or you can connect it directly too your printer via LAN Network to send files over the network to the printer if your's support it if not usb it is ! But yeah try to use x11 session with your distro instead of wayland and i would hope you are using Nvidia GPU please try the latest Driver that is officially released by Nvidia where latest driver version is - 550.127.05 which i also use for my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU ! so please try not to use the open source driver for the Nvidia GPU since that might give you issues. i cant say what to run if you use an AMD or Intel GPU so if thats the case you gotta play with that yourself ! and the Kernel i use is "6.11.5-zen1-1-zen" and im running it on a KDE Plasma 6.2.2 desktop enviorement !

#

hopefully my comment is of help for you since i have it running my my System with Arch. its a little limited when it comes to certain things but in general it will be enough to do what you need it to do !

#

and also the command "WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 /usr/bin/orca-slicer" or "WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 /usr/bin/orca-slicer" is dependent on where your orca slicer executable file is so it knows where to run the command and dont use sudo ! you can find out where your orca slicer executable are by using the command "whereis orca-slicer" or whatever the orca slicer might be called on your system when you installed it ! but if you install orca-slicer-git i have mentioned it should be called orca-slicer and most likely be in the /usr/bin directory so you can run the command in the right path !

#

sorry if i explained it very stupidly or in a way where you might take it as i treat you like you dont know what you are doing but i dont know how used to linux and such you are. so i just tried to keep it simple and on point while trying to explain things.

@fluid lion Hey have you ever dealt with the app not rendering models such as

fluid lion
#

@jaunty spoke i have not had that problem since i started to try and get Orca to work on my Arch distro. i had that issue with the Appimage version both stable and beta release. i got it "workin" with Appimage but the import of the files where blacked out and not able to see anything or use it. it was once i tried out the orca-slicer-git latest beta version which i installed with Octopi ( Octopi also installs all the dependencies and shit for you) and then i did the WEBKIT command to set up the Printer and get past the intial setup so i could actually use the software ! But it was a pain in the ass to get to work and alot of hours went into getting it to work to the point i have now which makes me able to use it with the features and such i need to use it as my main slicer software ! its fun with ADHD and get my mind hyper focused on a task and spend a ridiculous amount of time to try and get stuff to work until it wears off and where i give up for the day 😛 haha

so i'm pure arch with gnome (PC-nvidia NB-amd) and i did try reinstall on both, but the result is the same for both even with the fixes that i found online + yours

i'm running wayland only so that might be the problem

well thanks for help

fluid lion
# jaunty spoke well thanks for help

no worries ! Please do write here if you try to use the x11 and are successfull ! but yeah also make sure you have updated your nvidia gpu to offical drivers and not running 3'rd party drivers so everything is gucci and running optimal.

so i did quick update of orca and switched to x11 and i guess wayland is not supported

right now i'm running 2.2.0-rc

wicked copper

Ah shit so it's just wayland? X11 doesn't work for me

I added both of those envvars, and I did setup, but there is no plate

fluid lion
#

You did a full clean install also so you didnt have any old shit hanging ? and what kinda gpu do you have ?

#

you are running x11 session of your linux distro ?

wicked copper
#

nvidia rtx 4070, I am not doing x11, it causes a ton of lag

fluid lion
#

well what is lagging for you ? the application you are running or the whole system for other softwares and potenially games you might play and such ? my next question is have you updated the gpu driver or if not what version are you running ? And what kinda kernel are you using for this since that might also affect your experience in x11 !

wicked copper
#

I am running the standard kernel, the latest nvidia-open dirver, and when using X11 absolutely everything is slower, opening apps, using apps, etc

fluid lion
# wicked copper I am running the standard kernel, the latest `nvidia-open` dirver, and when usin...

yeah you dont wanna use the nvidia open driver. so your issue might allready be there ! You wanna use the offical nvidia driver that nvidia has made themselfs for your gpu ! the open source nvidia driver is not suitable for what we are doing. open driver is a open source driver that is not offically supported by nvidia ! if changing the gpu driver from open driver to offical driver from nvidia then the kernel is the next to be looked at instaling newer and potentially better kernel for you !

wicked copper
#

the proprietary one doesn't work, I've tried it

#

the open source one works significantly better

fluid lion
#

really now ? did you use dkms to install and build the driver for your kernel ?

#

what is the stock kernel for you ? I run most likely a different and new kernel version which is designed for high performance pc's and newer specced systems and are also tweaked and fixed for better support in gaming amongst one of the things !

#

im gonna soon maybe go to bed or il come back a little later but the thing you can try is to use this kernel "Kernel: 6.11.5-zen1-1-zen" for your system and try and install the offical nvidia driver again and see how it goes ! And please take a snapshot of your current system incase it fails and you need to revert back to the old kernel version !

fluid lion
#

it all depends on how desperatly you wanna get this to work and wanna use this software ! so its all up to you !
