I just installed a Bondtech CHT MK8 nozzle on my Ender 5 and measured no flow rate increase (if anything, I get more extruder motor clicking). I heated the hotend to 250 C, fully retracted filament, removed the old nozzle, and installed the new nozzle (which i did notice had a slightly shorter threaded section). Should I have taken any additional steps, or is the lack of performance increase to be expected? This is with an otherwise stock bowden extruder/hotend system, with the exception of a capricorn ptfe tube.

How did you test the max flowrate
"I get more extruder clicking" so with a stock nozzle you get clicking? And that with "normal" flowrates?
I would then guess your Extruder, the Motor or the tension isnt good
Orcaslicer's max flowrate calibration
Normal flowrate i.e. 10 mm^3/s for petg at 250 C
That's normal, petg isn't really a material that likes to be printed fast
I get clicking if I push it past.. well.. a speed that doesn't produce clicking
PLA and ABS/ASA are the materials you should print fast
I would've expected a cht nozzle to have improved the rate though
