Not sure if y'all are aware - but the activity of trying to change/overwrite existing images trips anti-virus because its a suspicious activity.
I'm GUESSING you're overwriting old icons with new versions, maybe?

I believe it asks you if you want to uninstall old version first at the very beginning. Maybe try that?

The windows installer for V1.8.1 is not signed when downloading from github

#

Chrome nacks about it that the file is suspicious because of that and when running the exe on windows it says its not signed

Except... I don't want to uninstall the earlier versions until I know the new version isn't going to cause an issue. Not going to uninstall 1.7.0 until I know there isn't a new problem with the new version. Then same with 1.8.0 - if that's working I'll keep it on the machine through 1.8.1, 1.8.3, 1.8.6... awhile until I feel confidient in dropping older versions when the new versions have proven themselves to me. I do that with Cura too, so don't take it personally.
