#X Smart 3, X Plus 3, X Max 3

@slow stump I have one Plus 3(the rev 2 I believe).
So far it works pretty well.
The resonance performance(input shaper) is the best I ever seen TBH
I am using an X Max 3 and everything works quite well. Although the xy tolerance in the official QIDI software works better, in addition to the spacing of supports and skirts.
Although the xy tolerance in the official QIDI software works better
can you explain more about that?
Basically, with Orca Slicer and the X Max 3, parts with gears, nuts, screws, and the like don't come out right on the first try. It's true that you can print a calibration piece and adjust the XY tolerance based on those settings.
However, with the official software, QIDI Slicer, it seems that these parameters are already corrected by default (presumably because it's their own software).
Another issue I have with Orca Slicer is that the thumbnail on the QIDI X Max 3's screen, showing what's being printed or the loaded files, is not visible.
I also encounter some more issues with support separation. QIDI Slicer creates perfect supports that are easy to remove. On the other hand, with Orca Slicer, it does a good job with the same piece, but the supports are more difficult to extract.
Just ordered an X Plus 3, but as I' in the UK will need to wait until they decide that mid August has actually arrived.
which one?
Have you checked the dimensions of parts printed in warp prone materials like ABS yet?
Right now I'm only using PLA and PETG
I just got my X-Max 3, came from a super modified ender 3 lol, had a 36 hour print finish in 14 on this thing with Qidi Slicer, My friends are telling me to move to Orca, I love features,widgets,add-ons etc. but I really love how perfect the print came out and how easy the supports snapped off with almost zero evidence. so cool.
I guess it makes sense to run both side by side and just tweak the machine specific settings to match the Qidi slicer parameters where it matters.
Anyone tried petg with qidi slicer
I am currently printing a tripod with PTEG and everything is fine.
I really like Orca Slicer, but I still prefer the way the parts are printed with QIDI Slicer. I've tried to migrate the parameters from the official software, but it's a pain in the ass.
The truth is that with QIDI Slicer everything is perfect, supports, tolerances and so on. With Orca Slicer I have to be fighting with the parameters to make it "regular".
i tried my petg but it didn't work too well
(probably user error still figuring it out)
switched to my old pla and its working very well
i like qidi slicer but i will need to go to orca because of its qol features
Hi, I have just discovered OrcaSlicer but on my QIDI X-Smart 3 I can't get g-code preview on my printer's screen. Would you have any ideas on how to correct this?
Their screen only support a special image format as of now. Base on the message I got from their tech supporter, they are going to move away from that format soon. You can try to ask them about the progress.
@blazing haven Thank you. I asked them about it and they answered :
"Thanks for contacting Qidi Technology.
Very sorry for the inconvenience.
As the preview image of the model on the screen is required for the software and firmware to work with each other.
So currently only QIDI slicer sliced model files are supported for on-screen previews.
Thank you for your understanding."
🤦♂️
I have an x smart 3 now and I'm attempting to connect it to orca slicer (1.7.0). I noticed that the start and end g-code in orca slicer is slightly different than what qidi has in their slicer.
here is what qidi slicer shows
should I still try a file sliced in orca slicer anyway?
both will work.
its seems to run but I checked the device console and one of the first entries was "unknown command "PRINT_START_QD""
My new X plus 3 has had two or three really good prints from orca, im new to 3d printing and was told to just go straight to Orca since thats the new hot thing
im liking its ease of access for sure with their settings
But I did just have some very bad like with "SunLu PLA+" where the entire 1kg spool was terrible, I think I got ONE good print out and the rest was either not adhearing to the base plate or sometimes not even adhearing to each layer, I calibrated it all weekend but no matter how much calibration I was doing it wanted me to push it to extremes to even get some sort of print
but soon as you did that and it looked like it was working, nope it would just mess up again.
default orca slicer settings
and with a ton of calibration and so on
I was worried it was the slicer but no I think this was all bad filament
new filament arrived and its beyond fantastic....Sunlu never again
Does anyone have issues with their z offset on the X plus 3 set through klipper PROBE_CALIBRATE not surviving a printer reset?
Turned mine off the other day and when I got it back on the z offset was back to 0...
Yeah, the MKS platform and the klipper on it is configured in a wired way. You will need to calibrate z offset through the the printer screen button. You can edit the config.mksini file directly too
Right, so if I set it from the screen (which I did this time) it should survive a reboot?
Just not using PROBE_CALIBRATE.
Odd. That, and the thumbnail issue are the only negs of this printer.
That’s right
Hmmmm. I did everything z offset related on the screen this time and it still didn't survive a reboot...
Might have to contact support...
😅, I really don’t like these MKS nonsense.
is there a way to set different build plates? I know the plates dont have IDtags like bambu does but it would be nice to have selectable plates for my newly aquired x-plus 3 (:
Do you mean the look of the build plate within the software?
if so do what I did and grab the files from the qidi slicer software and just import them into orca
No. I think they mean selectable build plates like bambu has.
There's a feature request or 2 on GitHub: https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/issues/2120
Ahhh I see
Whats the speeds you guys are printing at? for high quality that is
Currently for a high quality print with wording I am printing at
Outer wall 60
Inner 70
Sparse 80
Interernal solid 80
Top surface 50
Gap infill 25
but for a printer that can push 600 was wondering if I am being to careful
Yeah, you can definitely push the speeds. Not to 600mm/s as that's basically just marketing which (maybe) you could use for travel.
But I've had decent results with infill and inner wall speeds > 200.
The only places I really slow down is first layer. Even outer walls you could probably push to 150.
But I don't do a lot of wording prints, so do your own calibration. But I'd definitely say you're being conservative as those are Ender style bedslinger speeds...
With latest firmware .12 the Z offset will not save after restart.
Any same problem?
I print a 30x30x30 cube but i got 29.98 x 29.90 cube.
Any idea how to fix the dimension?
Printed in PLA
On my voron it works better
see Shrinkage under Filament settings
even though it probably won't work that well if it shrinks differently in different axis
I have an X-MAX 3 which is about 3 weeks old. I fired up OrcaSlicer for the first time this morning and decided to test the printer using the Orca Tolerance Test. WELL, even though the printer is all calibrated from the menu screen on the printer, OrcaSlicer made the print head crash into my new PEI plate scratching the crap out of it. The printer was printing fine using the QIDISlicer software so I don't know where I went wrong.
I decided to home the printer, re-calibrate it on the printer menu, auto level it, input shape it and set the Z offset. Tried OrcaSlicer again, and it tried to eat up my plate a second time!!! What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? By the way I have the inductive height sensor on my printer, not the BL-Touch. Maybe that make a difference?
check and compare your printer start gcode of Orcaslicer with the printer start gcode of QIDI slicer, seems like you set the wrong profile.
Okay, Thanks I'll start there. I'm currently printing for the next 6 hours so I'm hesitant to touch anything while it's printing and I have to wait anyway to check that out. I'll let you know if that was the issue.
I used orca slicer 2 versions ago and it was awesome, after the last update chamber heating and all sorts of issues, contacted qidi and it was not the machine, trying to get the new orca slicer but microsoft wont allow it to download,
Got the xmax 3 at the end of august hut didnt have room to set up then so 2 days ago i finally unboxed it set everything up i could plugged it in turned it on and it just said data error then started writing data and when finished writing which took about 20 minutes said failed and data error. Cant do anything with it and qidi hasnt been any help yet
