Title basically. I dont see why it is relevant to me becoming a european superpower that a country I dont now about, does not affect me and havent even discovered makes more money than me. Hegemons should be for your specific area

You can go 2 ways about this:

  1. Make seperate regions for hegemonies- i.e. A European, Middle eastern and mediterranean hegemony area, an asian one, and an american one or
  2. Make each country compete for hegemony with other countries which they have discovered, this would make the game more interesting

No matter how good I play and how much I dominate Europe, the main focus of the game, I will not be able to catch up to these asian powers which, again, I dont even know of and dont affect my gameplay until way later in the game. It makes the game feel less like "me, Castille, need to make more money than France so I can beat them" and more like "me, European country, need do pointlessly grind so I can get higher number than this other country on the other side of the world"

For sure needs to be looked at in the future

also dividing hegemons by regions can help small nations to get stronger and compete with their European counterparts once they discover each other

I would modify that to say it should take into account your game Region, and all the adjacent ones.

I had a situation where European countries were blocked from ever becoming hegemons because of China that has 10,000 tax base in 1470

For short-term improvements I think the hegemony system should be pushed back to age 4 or 5 instead of age 3

Just make titles such as "European Hegemon", "Asian Hegemon" etc.

Just fwiw there's a mod that does exactly this already if you're okay with using mods.
