#AI must be at least decent

I understand that it's hard to code proper AI, and it also might not be worth over-investing into it prior to 1.0.

Still, from the bits and pieces that I'm hearing, it appears like AI so far is just bad. I hear that coalitions can be bought off cheaply, and it just doesn't know how to play well.

To me, good AI that is actually a challenger and not just a scarecrow is half of what makes the game good. And 95+% of us play only single player. Especially in these times of AI hype and bubble, I would really expect there to be significant leaps in how smart AI is - especially in a game that is essentially runs on turns. I don't really expect it to be a strategic mastermind, but I do expect some basic awareness and forward thinking.

I don't want "hard" AI to be hard because they are printing money out of thin air and have a ton of modifiers, I would want it to be hard because they actually seek good economy and military and are impossible to abuse.

I do agree the ai does have to be good, although some things aren't nessacarily the ai being bad, per oneproudbavarian's ottoman video

#

one good example is the fog of war also applies to the ai

#

As an example lets say your main army is in a mountain tile

#

and the ai walks a much smaller army into your army

#

it's not because the ai is stupid, it's because the ai couldn't see your main army because their field of vision was locked so they assumed there wasn't an army yet

It is kinda stupid if it can't make informed decision

#

Like it should at least be able to say. "I know they have 10k troops and I can't see them anywhere. I shouldn't place my 5k stack next to a location that has FoW."

Unless you have an army under the monarch.

theres a lot of terrains that will block your line of sight

#

fog of war isn't like eu4

#

theres like an actually line of sight system

#

so think of it less like one mountain tile

#

but several mountain tiles

#

like the balkans have a ton of mountain tiles, so fighting there is constantly ambushing and being ambushed

#

Your not gonna assume that out of all the mountains, their going to be in or behind that one mountain compared to the other mountains?

Agree, I always felt AI in EU4 is just too dumb, there is no challenge after you play 50 years because unless you do stupid things the AI will never win against you. I have +2k hours in EU4 and I think I've seen an AI declaring war on me maybe 3 times.

The AI only attacks you when you are extremely weak
