I wonder what the odds are of me being able to get this Honchkrow to 60 before I just catch something that unlocks herbs earlier. Looks like Growlithe, Gastly, Dratini, Mareep, and Houndour have 'em at level 1, and Magnemite, Cyndaquil, and Raikou can have 'em at 30.
For that matter, I wonder what the odds are for the same thing with eggs and Lucario. Togepi, Delibird, Swablu, and Happiny get eggs at 1, Ekans, Mareep, Sneasel, and Snover get 'em at 30.

Would anyone be interested in a messy chart showing all the ingredients each mon can get? I don't see one existing already, not to put all that information in one place. The charts are, for obvious reasons, only about mons that are actually good at things. Not "Meganium line gets leeks at 60 sometimes".

Mareep with eggs at 30 would be super useful about now- save me getting to 60 on two separate mons. Quaxly or Diglett are probably my best bets for leeks, since Farfetch'd is probably going to be fairly rare after this event and everybody else only unlocks em at 60. For corn, I should remember to hunt Drifblim, because I like their shiny and they get corn at 1. Or Comfey (also rare) has corn at 1, or- is Rufflet shiny boosted this week?

Oh, that is quite a good pika. But, yeah, if you want to really go for it, the most reliable way and more than likely the fastest way to get a shiny is to reset. You make a new game, hit the button that lets you generate a fake sleep result for your tutorial sleep research session, look at whether the starter is shiny, and if not you uninstall+reinstall the app (or wipe its data some other way) and repeat. At maybe a 1/200?? chance of a shiny, and something around 5 minutes per reset, it's not terrible as shiny hunts go. Plus it means your first shiny will definitely be, not just a good species, but a good species with the extremely useful Ing Magnet.

That seems like a weird thing for them to have done instead of just having one flat probability for everyone.

Not much point to giving different people different odds, especially in a game that has no trading and thus no theoretical need for people to have different things to trade with each other.

But I can see how you'd get there. Human brains are wired to look for patterns, so sometimes we find patterns that aren't necessarily there. It's given rise to an interesting thing that we got a real good look at when Pokemon Go was huge- did y'all ever see people talking about how they thought you could increase shiny chance by doing things like spending real money or using premium items? It's not quite superstition, because "the game has something programmed into it that gives you higher shiny chances if you spend money" isn't a belief in the supernatural, but it feels very similar to me.

My Lucario is about 700 exp away from lvl30, which will give me potatoes. It's exp down nature, so it needs 900 sleep score worth of points if I don't get more candies.

I should definitely be able to get it to 30 by the anniversary event. If I get really lucky with spawns and see some Riolus, I might even be able to get it there before the prelude event.

And then I'll get three more curry recipes I can make! Two of which continue to just be 20% bonuses. (the third is Dream Eater curry, which I will not be able to consistently make for, uhh. awhile.)

My starter Pika on my main has BFS, and he carried so hard for so much of the early/mid game. He was my best berrymon on Taupe for quite awhile by sheer virtue of speed. Non-BFS isn't going to be as good, of course, but it's still gotta be pretty decent.

That’s a good strat. I’m definitely chucking biscuits at berrymons if I don’t see Pichu or Eevee, especially if I see anything good on Taupe.

I haven’t been to Taupe yet, because I don’t want to go there until I can hit M2/M3 for the incense quest. I want them incenses.

It seems really powerful. I haven’t really looked at dipping into it, though, because I like to stick to being able to collect from my guys whenever I open the app. Heck, I don’t tend to deliberately leave anything on sneaky snacking, even though I probably should for some of these- I just find it satisfying to pick all the stuff up and see if the skill procs.

Kinda what I wind up doing with a lot of games, really- I’ll have one or two aspects that I do a bunch of research into and attempts-at-optimizing, and then for others it’s “nah, this is more fun”.

Though I know for some people the more-fun is to optimize things as much as possible to get the most Number Go Up.

I'm gonna be getting potatoes pretty much exclusively from Ing Magnet for awhile, I'm sure. Lucario doesn't strike me as the best source of ingredients. Which is too bad, because this just unlocked me five dishes, three of which are curries I needed.

Depends on how you define "best", though my starter and that first Raticate ain't it either way.

I know Daisy the Venusaur and Usurper the HB Raticate are staying parked on my team unless I've swapped entirely over to getting exp. Seaspray the not-quite-Feraligatr-yet is going to be a big help on Cyan, BFS or no, the Larvitars should both be very useful once evolved, and Lemongrass the Lucario is also staying on my team near-constantly so I can save up for the next pot upgrades. But yeah, Kunzite the Honchkrow is probably top three at minimum, between the ing list (coffee! woo!) and being specced pretty well for a skill mon is really nice.

Daisy, I think, gets extra points for being good enough that I'd solidly consider using it on my main. And Ing Magnet is so useful for this run.

Yeah, the Victreebel should be great for potatoes. The Golem should honestly be pretty decent, too, even with the nature- they just have such a high ing rate as a species, plus extra of a Taupe-favored berry won't hurt anything when I eventually head there.

Watch me catch one of the starters next week and somehow it has tomatoes instead of its normal ingredients.

Made myself a list of where to get the ingredients I don't yet have unlocked. I can unlock herbs and eggs, but it'll take lvl60, one of those on an exp down mon, so it might be faster to catch something else. Lvl60 mons listed here for thoroughness regardless.

With a little luck, maybe I can get an ABX Quaxly next week.

i've tried running a macro but it has not worked out for me for some reason, i think it didn't pick up the scrolling perfectly so it messed up the tutorial because you need to scroll for region and birth year

I opted to just set my birth year to whatever number my thumb landed on first that was over 18, which did cut down the reset time a bit. Probably shouldn't tell it you were born this year in case it locks you into the kids' account thing somehow.

Also, if you're getting really tired of seeing the same words over and over, try setting your language to something you don't speak. I don't know how many people other than me hate repetitive text, but I can't read any language other than English, so any of those languages cease to be repetitive (since I don't just read them the instant I glance at them) and turn into letters.
