Yes, people really do go into their basements like in the movies. Or a storm shelter, if they have one, but in the suburbs nobody really has those, at least from what I've seen. If you don't have a basement, the next best thing is the innermost area of your house, away from windows. I also heard hunkering down in the bathtub is another option, but I'd say that's probably if there's literally nothing else you could do. We never get them around here, but in the last few years, some have touched down! I guess there was one confirmed touchdown somewhat close by when I posted that, too! Tornadoes are my biggest weather related fear :<
