creating a gradient along a soft edge

i wanna create a gradient from the highlighted dark to light spots, is there a way to do it other than trying to do it gradually with the brush and somehow trying to match the shape by trying 100.000 times ?

you can give the autoshade operation a try

it might work if you place your light source here

its not made for creating gradients on a flat surface tho

okay i tried arounda bit and the best result i got was this.

how would u gow about what i am trying to achieve ?

Id try placing the light source pretty low behind the shore to the top left
this way the shore in theory would cast a long shadow youd map the blocks to

I might try to paint blocks closer to the shore with placeholder blocks and have multiple layers to paint each of them with their own gradient
