#Lag spikes while using builder tools

Hello. Recently I have been getting lag spikes when using any builder tool. When I use extrude, move, clone, erase etc I get lag spikes that make it very frustrating to use. Especially when building quickly with extrude. (Also, this issue isn't only with big selections. The lag spike is the same length whether is 1 or 100 blocks.)

Now, here is what I think is the culprit. This issue only started after I reinstalled windows on my computer. So I know that this issue probably has to do with that, but I haven't had any issues with my PC at all. This is the only issue that has popped up since the reinstall.

I play with a lot of client side mods, but I have also tried testing this issue on a fresh Minecraft instance, only using Fabric API & Axiom. The issue persisted on both instances equally.

Ill provide any details y'all need. But here is what I can think of:

Minecraft 1.21.4
Fabric 0.16.14
Axiom 4.8.0
Fabric API 0.119.3+1.21.4
Dedicated RAM 8gb
Updated all essential drivers for PC
GPU: 4070 TI Super
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950x3d 16 core
Total ram: 32
Installed MC on my SSD
Windows 11

I know this issue may boil down to a Windows issue, but I honestly have no other issues than the Axiom lag spikes. So I didnt know how to research / fix this problem without asking here. Appreciate any advice! :)

I also did simply try resetting the PC too. No fix. I am not super tech savvy so I am sorry if this is is a silly thing to be posting here. I just have no clue how to fix this.

how big of a lag spike are we talking?

spiral rover
#

Ill record a vid for you

distant hound
#

you just reinstalled windows? no hardware changes right?

spiral rover
spiral rover

Recorded that on the fresh instance of MC. It is the exact same with sodium + client side mods

Will do

distant hound
#

/sparkc profiler start
/sparkc profiler open
or something like that

spiral rover
#

I reproduced the lag spikes while running the profiler

#

(on singleplayer)

allocate more memory

spiral rover
#

wait what?? i set it to 8 gigs i see that it says 788mb

#

I use prism launcher... maybe it didnt save my allocated mem?

distant hound
#

yeah I see now

spiral rover
distant hound
#

thought it looked like garbage collector lag spikes
idk how to read flamegraphs

spiral rover
#

Hmmm

distant hound
#

you could try using -XX:+UseZGC -XX:+ZGenerational -XX:+AlwaysPreTouch -XX:+UseStringDeduplication with a java version that has a zgc like temurin

#

other than that youll have to wait for Moul

spiral rover
distant hound
#

and it worked perfectly fine before the fresh install?
with the same settings?

spiral rover
#

Yup. Same settings and everything. I backed up my MC on a seperate harddrive so I wouldnt have to manually tweak everything after the reinstall. Exactly the same instance of MC

distant hound
#

what gpu driver are you using?

spiral rover
#

576.52 (nvidia)

distant hound
#

did you have an older driver before?

spiral rover
#

Hmmm I dont believe so no. I keep my drivers up to date. The driver version was released may 19th and that was before i reinstalled. I reinstalled windows 5 days ago. (wouldve noticed this issue earlier but i am just now testing mc today)

#

I just had an idea. One change was that I installed the Nvidia app. I noticed it has global settings for my graphics. Maybe one of these settings is doing something funky? (before i used geforce experience)

#

but thats my only idea.

distant hound
#

its only a nicer looking control panel with built in bloat
nothing that should affect your performance

spiral rover
#

love built in bloat.

distant hound
#

at least I didnt use most of its features once I tried it
msi afterburner and getting graphic settings off of reddit or something is nicer

#

wth is geforce experience

spiral rover
distant hound
#

I see

spiral rover
#

Well i will wait and see what Moul has to say. Until then i will keep researching on my own and hope to stumble across a random fix :P thanks for your help. Lemme know if u think of anything :)

distant hound
#

and the lags only occur when using axioms tools?
normal minecraft, fill commands and quickly placing blocks works fine?

spiral rover
#

Lemme check that. didnt think of that

#

Nope no lag at all. /fill works and placing blocks quick is smooth as butter

distant hound
#

send minecraft/logs/latest.log of the client

#

after that its for Moulberry to look at

fierce treeBOT

@spiral rover (Ronnoc09) uploaded a log,

  • Fabric 0.16.14 on 1.21.4 using 3 mods
spiral rover
#

I reproduced the bug for the log.

#

i did another spark profiler and i noticed the more I use i use the extrude tool, the higher my memory useage jumps. https://spark.lucko.me/ldYbrQ1XPf
like i got it to 90% for a sec while using it pretty fast. in the past it wouldnt lag me so i wonder if its a ram issue?

spark is a performance profiler for Minecraft clients, servers, and proxies.

#

like maybe while i was reinstalling windows, something weird happened to my ram ?

distant hound
#

unstable ram?
did you do overclocking?

#

how many ram sticks do you have?

spiral rover
#

no overclocking. I got two ram sticks.

distant hound
#

what are the specs of the ram

spiral rover
#

I got TC T-create ram
DDR5 2x16gb
6000mhz

#

i have warranty on my ram so if i need to return it i can do so. but still so odd cuz other games work perfectly fine. Marvel rivals for example runs perfectly smooth. no issues whatsoever

#

And like everything else in MC from my knowledge runs super smooth. I get great fps and gameplay stability. It is simply just Axiom from my knowledge.

distant hound
#

yeah thats probably not the issue anyway
I mean you could run ycrunsher for a few minutes to check
but I would just wait for Moul

spiral rover
#

Ill just wait for moul. Until then ill just play MC and see if i can reproduce the bug in other ways to get more info.

spiral rover
#

My memory useage is going from 10% and then slowly up to 95%.. Then all of a sudden goes straight down to around 10% again. I know this is garbage collection from java, but is 95% too high? is this what may be causing my issues?

distant hound
#

is this with the java args I gave you?

spiral rover
#

Yup

distant hound
#

try without

spiral rover
#

Ah yea that made the memory issue more stable. The main issue still persists tho obviously. but hey atleast im not 95% memory useage

#

thx

spiral rover

Also for when moul reads this, i just tried changing most vanilla MC settings to different values. render distance, vsync, and all the other settings etc etc. nothing changed.
