not the control scheme i'd opt for, haha (but porter's prerogative and all that).
you'll need a .gitkeep in the conf/godot/app_userdat/Canto 1 if you want that to make it into the commit.

just because it has a steam dll doesn't mean it won't run -- it depends how it's programmed

imo, jump is always b -- then you work out the rest from there. i might go for --

A - attack
B - jump
R1/R2 - dash (common convention for platformers)
X/Y - dash alternative

but this is entirely subjective! and many folks might disagree with me

i also noticed there's a mouse pointer -- so i'd map that to left stick (i don't reckon 2d-platformers are suited to sticks, anyhow)

so maybe x for mouse click, and y for the dash alternative

check the runtime manager in the portmaster app. it goes up to 4.1.3 (although i'm not certain that runs on every cfw).
there's no 3.4.4, but you can just use 3.4.5

So on lvl 3 of this game, I've found it gets a bit laggy. I turned off screenshake in options which helped minimally. But is there a patch that can be worked up for this so it runs smoother? Only thing I can think of is the map is larger and it's harder for it to load?

Use GDRE and decompile it open it in Godot3.5.2 and use the profiler or how its called play until level 3 and see whats the thing that takes the most performance and then rework it

Oh okay. That makes sense so just 4.1 is rare. But what about the .dll file? There's a bunch I have that are 3.x.x and they contain only an .exe, .pck. and a .dll or 2. So do I try testing those with using all the files in gamedata? Dlls as well? Or just without and if they work, they work?

you only need the .pck or exe most times but i wouldnt try 4.1.3 as it only works on amberelec

depends, if you have allot of .dlls dont even bother as it uses C# and mono but if you only have one like steam_api.dll then you can just try to run it without it being copied over

this game being 3.5.1 do i need THAT engine or 3.5.2 which we have the runtime for?

ive got this in the program, but im not sure how you use this with the gmae engine exactly.

dont patch the pck, export it and then open it with the godot engine and then you can apply patches by just editing the code

oh i think level 3 is just so big that it loads everything all the time and then when a enemy moves that is like at the end of the level it will still be moved even when you are at the start of the level

Nope i havent got a fix for it. Level 3 is probably too big and maybe needs to be split into multiple levels to actually reduce lag

Would you be so kind as to check and see if im doing something incorrect or im just getting this unlucky with finding the games that just dont run for some reason?

Hiya! I’m the dev of Canto I. It was exported with Godot 3.5.1, Godot 4 was already out by a lot when Canto I came out, but I decided during development to not update since it could cause problems. The jump from 3 to 3.5 messed up some controls so I decided to not update anymore

It is definitely level 3 being loaded all at once that causes lag issues. I can provide a fix and update the game but I can’t promise it’s gonna be anytime soon

If it's just maybe splitting it into a few scenes that load as you get to them, that'd fix it

Oh right if you (or anyone else) needs to test the game the best way to get to level 3 quickly is going to Options in the Main Menu and selecting Story Mode. That way you’re invulnerable and have 5 jumps

@queen frigate Yeah I did see that, so Thanks! But we are pretty solid on the fact that it's just too laggy. If I knew how to use godot, I'd do this myself. @warm maple probably knows how but he's pretty busy porting python based projects. So the best way to get this into our library, would be for you to do it if you could spend the hour
(if even that? Or maybe longer? I really don't know...)

Yes. He split the level into 8 parts and identified the moving platform that was causing most of the lag
