LISA: The Painful is the miserable, hilarious RPG of your wildest nightmares. Undertake a relentless journey through the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Olathe. Beneath its charming exterior is a world full of disgust and moral desolation, where you will learn what kind of person you are by being FORCED to make choices that permanently affect the gameplay. Make sacrifices to keep your party members alive, whether it's taking a beating for them, losing limbs, or some other inhuman torture. In this world, you will learn that being selfish and heartless is the only way to survive...

I've tested the game (original) with the Windows version from Steam. If someone would also like to test the linux version that would be great. Just drop all the gamefiles within the steamfolder into the gamedata folder.

You can buy the game here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/335670/LISA_The_Painful/

To do:

  • Testing with gamepad controls: this game has included gp support but I haven't tested for long enough. Gptk is also included, if you want to test that, rename it to lisa.gptk
~~- This game apparently includes some Unity files, looking at SteamDB. I think this is just for the DLC: The Joyful. However im not 100 percent sure, if anyone has more info please let me know. ~~
  • Still have to include PR files.

Testing requirements:

Yassss, that was one of the games I really envisioned playing oneday. Thank you for porting it @native lake ! ๐Ÿ™‚

#

Plays awesome on the R36S (ArkOS) using Steam Windows files ^^

#

It also happened to me that during the first fight I was only able to action a single kind of attack

native lake
#

Ill have a look at that issue soon. Thanks for testing ๐Ÿ™‚

native lake
#

Okay so ive done some testing and research. This game comes in 3 variants. original, mkxp and definitive. The definitive version is out of the question as its made in Unity. The original, the one im using now has weird controller support, this was fixed in the mkxp version of the game. So i need to figure out how to boot into that one, thats why the controls arent working properly in the first fight.

#

Im pretty busy with studies right now, but ill try to fix this with either using gptk or use the mkxp version of the game, which is probably harder to do.

#

Might take some time but ill update the zip when ready.

native lake
#

Lisa the joyful, not sure dont own the game. The original was made in rpgmaker VX Ace. I think falcon-mkxp has support for some vx ace games but ill have to try. Might do that after this one is done.

Gave joyful a quick test on falcon-mkxp on desktop, it does look promising

native lake
#

Good to hear, guess ill know what to port after this one ๐Ÿ™‚

Replacing the font with something like "fontSub=VCR OSD Mono>Open Sans" may slightly improve visibility on low res devices, not sure if it's worth the tradeoff though, perhaps with a better font than open sans

Had to pop my head up for this, great work. This'll give a left hand dominant layout, only need the right for battle inputs and bicycle dismounting.
l1/start = select/action button
l2/select = back/menu
dpad/l-stick = movement
abxy = dswa (battle inputs)
r1 = dismount bicycle

native lake
#

Thanks @cerulean sage โค๏ธ

I used lisa.gptk kindly provided by mattyj513. Controls work fine. I finished intro and got Terry to join my party. No crashes, no issues

summer crane
#

Can somebody provide a tutorial on how to use lisa.gptk?

narrow tusk
#

can you give us some more context?

summer crane
#

I dont understand how to fix the controls of the port

alpine plinth
#

You open it in notepad for example ๐Ÿ˜›

#

?

native lake
#

Im updating the zip soon. If you cant wait, just drop matty's gptk file into the lisa port folder

summer crane
#

I will wait then, thank you everyone ^^

Still need some testers for RGB30, Amberelec and low res. If someone also wants to test the linux game files that would be great ๐Ÿ™‚

#

And dont forget to remove the old folders on your SD card, names have been changed.

Managed to tested it today. Works perfectly on the RGB30 using JELOS. It was my first time playing it, so I'm not sure how to save the game, but everything seems to work.

Good morning, tried the new version with new controls on R36S ArkOS. Not really sure what to feel about the new action button, both L1 and and Start are too clicky on the device compared to ABXY and you have to press them a lot during dialogs. Will keep testing, thank you

native lake
#

If every device here had analog sticks, id switch the controls.

#

Not sure what to do with this, the r36 is rhe only device with these awful buttons lol @alpine plinth

alpine plinth
#

๐Ÿ˜›

faint hill
#

I agree, L1 was a bit weird as you press that button more than any other

native lake
#

Control scheme uses l1 or start as action button, to click trough dialog etc

#

Which is a bit weird, especially on the r36 where the l1 an start buttons suck

native lake
#

No its not, i could use the analog stick. But im pretty sure not every device has them.

alpine plinth
native lake
#

What would you do, use l1/start as action or accept that some devices cant play.

alpine plinth
native lake
#

Because the game uses 10 buttons lol

#

Arrow keys, wasd, z and c I believe

#

I could also bind the battle buttons that are now abxy to r1r2 l1l2

alpine plinth
#

๐Ÿ˜„

#

Back to step one

#

๐Ÿ˜„

#

You said it supports joystick

#

are you able to disable that completly ingame?

native lake
#

So the game has 3 versions. Original, mkxp and definitive

#

Mkxp has controllers support, but we can only use original

#

With gptk enabled it seems to disable gp all together

alpine plinth
#

So without gptk the game is dead correct?

native lake
#

No i dont think so๐Ÿ˜… It has this awful partial controller support

#

The controls really suck for this game

#

Really just meant for keyboard

#

I think what i will do, is bind the battle buttons to l1l2 and r1r2. But also to the left analog stick. So everone can play and if you have a analog stick its more intuitive.

alpine plinth
#

on other jelos devices dpad is swapped with analogue stick

#

that's why if possible we always disable controller support unless the game supports it correctly

#

you could try to use the xbo360 mode to see if the game finds that correct

native lake
#

How do you use the xbox360 emulation. On github instructions it just says ''xbox360 '' is a command line

#

Is there a game that uses it so i can look at it?

alpine plinth
native lake
#

ah, makes sense

#

And im assuming you cant remap buttons in that mode

#

Only if the game supports rebind itself

alpine plinth
faint hill
native lake
#

Not all of our devices have analog sticks.

faint hill
#

Will it be possible to make two releases? One for devices with analog sticks and another for devices without?

#

I don't know if that makes sense

native lake
#

You could make it unnecessarily complicated by detecting the device name and applying a patch to the gptk.

#

But i think r1r2 and l1l2 plus left analog stick would be a better option. Then people can choose themselves what they want to use.

alpine plinth

# - DISPLAY_WIDTH
# - DISPLAY_HEIGHT
# - CFW_NAME
# - CFW_VERSION
# - DEVICE_RAM

#

So simple one liner if analog sticks = 1 or 0 use this gptk ๐Ÿ™‚

summer crane
#

Is the new control scheme going to be updated and offered in the near future? This game has been on my list for long, thank you for porting it

native lake
#

I wanted to include it in the pr but i need more testers.

#

Amberelec and 320p are still open.

native lake
#

Do any of you guys own a 240x320 device? After that i can PR.

I have my doubts about readability on that res anyway, so it needs to be tested.

summer crane

I wish I could also play it on my SF2000, but unfortunatelly I dont own another compatible device

green ibex
#

โœ…RG351P- Amberelec
Type can be hard to read but it's readable. Slight blur to certain objects on screen while walking. I wonder if it's a resolution thing

#

Perhaps, if it were fully scaled, maybe that fixes.

native lake
#

Thanks for testing ๐Ÿ™‚

green ibex
#

Super welcome, my pleasure! Great port imo๐Ÿคฉ

green ibex
native lake
#

Yeah i kinda expected that. Ill make note of it in the readme.

green ibex
#

Are you planning to alter the gptk?

native lake
#

Yes, using analog stick for battle inputs.

#

And using face buttons for interaction etc

green ibex
native lake
#

Controls:
A = interact/jump
B = cancel/back
Y = bicycle

Dpad = movement
Lstick = alt movement
Rstick = battle inputs
Back buttons = alt battle inputs

Select = menu
Start = interact

#

Also works for the dlc, just rename.

#

Would love to see mods avaliable evenually

native lake
#

I have only briefly tested mods. This one boots into the game, but no further testing done:)

#

I suggest trying some mods and letting us know what works and what doesnt. For anyone else who wants to use mods for this game.

bitter nacelle
#

Testing mod that u sent now also just curious what are you porting next if anything

native lake
#

Im still actively porting, right now working on Blossom Tales 2.

#

Why are you asking? ๐Ÿ™‚

bitter nacelle
#

Curiosity mostly I'll have to look into that game

native lake
#

Its a zelda inspired game, i played the original on switch

#

Performance is not great tho, and still teying to get saves to work

bitter nacelle
#

It looks fun I'll have to buy a copy evenually

native lake
#

Once its in a decent state youll see a testing threadDonkeyThumbsUp

Nice looking forward to it
