I have to try it tomorrow.
Basically the megaman port broken the GTA ports is what I can guess.
Not really the ports
it broke portmaster
seems like im gonna have to skip the new portmaster now ๐ข

Well if you use the Install.PortMaster.sh, on JELOS is creates a Restore JELOS PortMaster.sh in the Tools section
so if it does break it, just run that and it will return it back to the JELOS portmaster.
this happens on old pm too

and then looks for control.txt
and spams
and then jelos not sure why fails to start .sh and tells "argument list too long"
so fills up the env
only jelos

Megaman uses a troubleshoot that has been fixed like last week or similar
so it create a conflict
at the times without this little tweak on jelos it crashes , but now crearly copied an old file lol
I'm conflicted on weather or not I should go near the megaman port. I want to play it but I don't want broken ports again. Ughhh
The problems exists due to a file that copied where shouldn't be
if the update has been merged should be all ok
Hey, I just tried GTA3 in my RG351P with ArkOS' from wummle's fork. Game boots the menu, but fails when I start the game. Here's my logs:
Is it something related with ArkOS, considering I'm getting some errors at the beginning tha mentions a "storage" folder that only exist in AmberElec/JelOS?

Megaman is not fixed. I should give up on that port now.
Here is my report if it helps:
1-Both GTA ports work fine.
2- Opened the new portmaster front-end to download megaman (I really want to play this)
3-megaman port doesn't boot for me
4-i go check if GTA ports are good to go- they are not. It broken again sigh.
5- i try going back into the new portsmaster front-end and any button I push once loaded up crashes portmaster too.
I gotta quit with this megaman because it's causing me so many problems
6- deleted portmaster folder and megaman. Then reinstall the new portmaster and load it up once. Poof GTA fixed again. Sigh

im still curious on why ur gta ports always broken. i played a bit of gta 3 last night and it still worked fine on mine
maybe its worth it to reflash jelos and try again from scratch. should take u only 20 mins max
including transferring your gta games files
I have done reinstall. I thought it would help too. But it didn't. The gta ports brake because of the megaman port. I guess.
I got gta up again by resetting portsmaster.
It's all good. I just will stay far far away from megaman.
Sounds to me like you just booted the old MegaMan without deleting pm and MegaMan first ๐
but i still dont get how other game ports would break gta 3. other ports shouldnt be interfering with other games in the portmaster

someone has mentioned that removing re3.ini helped (still not fully understood), in other cases it was a problem with the game assetss - either wrong, missing or corrupted

also, do you know what it is the difference between regular and wummle's ArkOS?
Maybe it's a little outdated. On my stock version from 2021, half of the games from portmaster did not run. GTA3, Turtles, HL2, Doom3

basically, christian haitian stopped providing support for RG351P devices on his ArkOS firmware, where the latest ArkOS version for devices such as mine are from last year. only newer devices have newer ArkOW versions, with updates in their internal libraries and emulator versions.
to provide additional updates, @coarse gyro forked the original ArkOS and provided updates specifically for RG351P devices. thanks to that, we now have newer libraries and emulators.
in theory, it should be almost up-to-date with AmberElec. and honestly, I find it hard for my issue to be caused because of me using his ArkOS fork.

idk check sdl2 mixer for example =), not really but we've seen some ports that require higher sdl2 versions
the sdl2 libraries are on version v2.0.26.2 on my fork atm if that helps

Just removed re3.ini and tested again. Still crashing. But I think it might be something with my game assets that somehow got corrupted, possibly during copy process through SSH.
Another curiosity, is that I also got re3 for windows and tested my assets and they worked.
But anyway, I'll copy them over again and test afterward.

@swift pawn Hey, a strange behavior I'm getting: My GTA3 files are working fine with RE3 in Windows, but not in my portable device. If the files worked in Windows, then maybe it isn't an issue with game assets. Is there a chance the issue might reside in the re3 binary by itself, or maybe its configs?

And we had to downgrade to a lower sdl version

also, someone reported that GTA3 worked in a RG351MP with ArkOS. assuming it's a very similar device as mine, I wonder if he used ArkOS from wummle, or the "stock" one from christian haitian.
I thought that, since it worked for RG351MP with ArkOS, it should also work fine for my device.

in any case, if you manage to run the game on PC then the assets seem fine
given you have tried multiple times to copy them, I think data corruption is unlikely
ArkOS from christian... maybe your sdl libraries are corrected, but mine aren't.
"corrected" is a strong word. it's just a matter of possibly different sdl versions
look at fallout1/fallout2 ports, in the launcher script there is an "if" statement which loads different SDL libraries when the game is launched on ArkOS
in my first GTA3 version I had these lines too, but actually they crashed the game in the newest ArkOS on RG351MP, so I removed them

strangely enough, I have this file in my Windows PC, and it has about 300mb for me. maybe this file was deleted somehow?
the "Installing re3 files..." step seems to move a few files from "re3-data" folder to the game dir. maybe the file was deleted during this process?
re3-data does not have gta3.img or txd.img
also, I think we would notice the problem on many devices

my RG351MP has txd.img, but it has a different creation date than many other files, so maybe it is created when GTA runs
btw, how much space do you have on the SD card?

I am really running out of ideas.. do you have a way to run a different OS on the device (without too much hassle)?
because if it runs with another firmware, then we could eliminate a lot of problems related to the installation
and then focus on what is different between the two firmwares
I have JelOS in another SD card, that I installed a few months ago
but JelOS has issues with GTA3, so maybe AmberElec might be a better option, I guess

it surely is, I had to modify the source code to make it playable on handhelds
but this was mostly related to controls and opengl es support
but I have also build vanilla version and my modification on a linux PC, both worked fine
Hi @orson, here I am again. This time I found a bug, the sniper rifle does not work, it only registers the first shot, the following shots never hit the enemies. In the mission "Bomb da base act II" you must shoot dozens of cartel enemies on their ship. And it is impossible, I tried many times without success. In the end I realized that if I fired a couple of shots with the sniper at pedestrians on the street it started to work often, I was able to finish the mission and move on to the second island. But in the first mission that the yakuza gives you, you have to eliminate some cops on some balconies near the casino and it is impossible, even having shot a couple of pedestrians on the street before. I have the latest version of GTA3 available on Steam.

It's definitely something with ArkOS, because although most ports work fine, a few of them behaves differently when compared to AmberElec.
Not only GTA3, but also ports such as Blake Stone, Openjazz and raze.

What if you get re3 for windows, plug a xbox360 controller onto it, and check if you can pass this mission that way?
If the issue happens in windows, then it might be a issue in re3. Otherwise, it might be something in the re3 code that Orson used to compile it to aarch64.

One thing I forgot mentioning: I'm using ArkOS wummle from 30/03/2023, which uses SDL 2.0.26.2. The latest ArkOS wummle version is from 26/08/2023, where the SDL2 version was updated to 2.0.28.2. Although I'm not sure what is the exact SDL2 version that AmberElec is currently using, but would these version differences matter for GTA3 port in ArkOS?
Anyway, just updated ArkOS wummle latest version from 26/08/2023, which gave me the new SDL version. After that, now GTA3 is working on ArkOS just like it was on AmberElec. Think this solves the issue.
that's what I am going to do first, but on linux ๐ it will be much easier to debug
I have briefly looked at it, but the code to change resolution is already there (basically it uses settings you put in the .ini file)
so if it does not work, then it is either not possible or requires a smarter approach, but I did not have much time to pursue it

what about other fellows using re3 to play GTA3 in their smartphones? maybe those guys figured out a way to pass this mission.
I mean, if this problem happened to lots of different people, they'd report it. And it might make things easier to try fixing it.
But also, re3 in android might possibly emulate mouse+keyboard gameplay, instead of controller gameplay. They might not even be getting this specific bug.
@swift pawn quick question about adjusting stick sensitivity:
If needed, readjust analog sticks sensitivity/deadzone by changing [Left,Right]StickSens[X,Y] or [Left,Right]StickDeadzone values in re3.ini
I couldn't find any settings like these in my re3.ini. Should I adjust sensitivity first in re3 menus, and only then in the ini file?
I believe they are playing a different version
remind me, did you have delete your re3.ini in order to run the game? or in troubleshooting process?
I have discovered that these sensitivity settings are respected if they are in the .ini file, but they are not created if .ini file is missing and the game creates one with default values

anyway - you can either check how it is done in the .zip file (gta3/re3.ini) or add to gta3/re3.ini in Controller section:

gta3 doesn't work on my OGS with RetroOZ, same problem as Solid One had on non updated ArkOS

What if you guys from odroid go super simply try adding the new libraries solely for the gta3 port, and editing the .sh file to load them from a local "lib" folder instead of loading them globally?
Some ports have something like that implemented, such as Hocoslamfy
Maybe this way you could at least make gta3 work, without having to update all libs globally.

Yes, JELOS works just fine on the GO Super. With panfrost and wayland / weston as well. No nasty patched SDL2, rotated via weston.

retrooz was the arkos port for the super but not been supported for quite a while so no official arkos for the super as far as i know

..and it turns out that if I remove my changes/optimizations, everything works as expected, chances are now 60%

language should not matter, in theory it should be enough just to replace gta3/re3

to try it I do de Asuka Mission letter "A" on map, I start with the bad guys in the casino, there are a lot of them on balconies, I kill the first one and the rest don't die, I've used up the entire charger and nothing.
They had same bug with vita port too maybe patch notes will give you a clue
Or during under the surveillance mission change controls to free aim and standard and kill them with a assault rifle
The only way to โrepairโ the sniper is that way. Shot to random people on streets until the second one goes down, then the sniper rifle works while play

Yeah it's a old bug , like I say vita port team fixed it from version 1.3 or .4 I believe

I have read this, but Steam does not install this version even by forcing the update, a shame.
It won't it's a vita port ? They fixed it pc version at the time if I remember had a hacky fix something to do with bad controller drivers baked into game that was patched out

no, I have not tried GTA SA, I have seen the repository, but I think it is too early to even try to port it
I guess 1.3/1.4 refer to the port versions, it is as if I bumped the version number each time I fix a problem
No 1.3 or 1.4 refers to the vitaport version it was 1.4 that had the sniper fix

Advanced game settings. Press the โfavoriteโ button while you have the game selected and then pick Advanced Settings in the menu

and another thing , i copied the AUDIO data from the audio cd (game cd) to the audio folder in the ports gta3 audio. .. does that add all the radio? Because i can hear radio etc.

So it's OK to leave that AM2R fix in for an RGB30 running JELOS? ...or take it out and wait for an updated release on PortMaster that fixes it "the right way"? My volume buttons are still working on my RGB30 running JELOS after running it. Did I mess something up is my files by running it?
It's okay, the fix is for Jelos, so you are fine.
That said, more than adding a thing that says to check for Jelos before using the fix we can't do much, the problem is on Jelos due to their things, so if they wanna fix or something is not up to us directly.

Nope.
The fix is due to a disabled thing outside emulation and some things.
It's not something that suddenly stops working.
That said, if Jelos wants to change/revert the thing well.
If not probably with gmloader-next that is 64 bit we will have less "collateral effect" on arkos without checking the os.
Managed to beat GTA3 in my RG351P a couple of days ago. Awesome game and port, thanks everyone! Now gotta try Vice City the first time, can't wait for it.
Or at least kind of beat GTA3. Some missions are pretty hard because aiming with the analog stick is pretty terrible and I had a bad time in missions such as the sniper ones and the last Dam mission. The Dam mission was so hard that I just watched the game ending through some youtube videos.
@split apex question for ya: how did you manage to aim properly in your device? did you enable some kind of auto-aim functionality, or manage to reduce analog sensitivity considerably in order to aim sights fast enough for some timed missions? or did you use any cheats or similar?
in some missions, aiming sights with rifles were too hard for me that I simply used rocket launchers at thugs because otherwise they'd kill me first, before I managed to aim and shoot them.

I also did the same, but instead of plugging a mouse in my RG351P, I got re3 windows version, alongside my game assets, and played the missions in my PC with keyboard and mouse. Then I aimed sights with sniper rifles with my mouse, and pressed the "Insert" key to shoot. That worked in the last portland mission, where we need to shot sights in a big boat with a sniper rifle.
Hopefully, with a little bit of struggle, I managed to pass the first Kenji mission in my RG351P. Got lucky enough to aim sights in the building with my sniper rifle using the analog sticks of my portable device.
But these were the only ones. In most of the other missions, I killed targets with alternate methods, such as roadkilling, exploding them with bazooka, sometimes barricading areas with big vehicles so I have more time to react and destroy stuff, etc.
@split apex another question: did you manage to make Claude run? in the PC version, pressing Shift allows for making him run faster, which is pretty useful in some missions, but in my RG351P I tried pressing all button combinations I could remember, but Claude is still not running.
just to add on this one: in GTAVC, I can run by holding B button while walking. but in GTA3, holding B while walking, the character only hits punches in the air. not sure if it's a controller setting issue or a bug in re3, though.

In the controller settings, I remember seeing only the "Shift" key being assigned to the run button. Couldn't find any of the Xbox controller button mappings, for example

Mine is Anbernic RG351P, and I'm using ArkOS (not the official one by @lethal nymph because he stopped supporting this device, but instead the @coarse gyro's forks). For me, GTA3 only worked after updating ArkOS wummle to the latest version (mine is from 26/08/2023). Any other version before that won't run the game, because it requires a new SDL version that's only available from this version onward.

another possibility is updating your ArkOS version to a more recent one (if any). not sure if christian haitian supports R35S devices or not, but maybe there might exist a newer version, that might make GTA3 work in your device
I'm already on the most recent one, I had updated to see if it was incompatible, before updating it was not possible to see Claude's 3D skin in the menu, after updating I was able to see it but the game still won't starts
well, try AmberElec them, and see if it works. if it does, then it's an ArkOS issue. otherwise, it's an issue with your assets maybe.
I did that same test a few months ago. GTA3's menus opened fine, but game crashed in ArkOS (from march 2023) after starting a new game. Then I got a spare sd card, installed AmberElec, put GTA3 on it, and it worked fine. I concluded it was an ArkOS issue, that was quickly solved after updating it to the latest version.

Still about aiming with analog sticks, one test I did a few hours ago in my RG351P was: What if I reduce left stick sensitivity to values such as 0.6 or 0.8?

LeftStickDeadzone=0.05
RightStickSensX=0.4
RightStickSensY=0.8
RightStickDeadzone=0.05
A few missions (the hardest ones, by coincidence) require precise aiming with Sniper Rifle, M16 and Rocket Launchers. We need to hold RB and aim with the left analog for all these weapons. In these cases, only reducing the right stick sensitivity is not enough-- the one that needs to be reduced is the left stick sensitivity. So I tried reducing these sensitivity levels and see what happens.
The result is that it became much easier to aim with these weapons since we can aim more precisely (although possibly slower). But I also got a bad side effect: Claude walks slower than usual, and if I hold the left analog fully in one direction, he'll walk instead of sprint (at least I can hold B and make him run like hell). And inside cars, handling is also slower than usual, meaning we'll have a bad time with sharp curves, or back the car up.
In the end, playing these missions with a mouse is still the best option. Unless we figure out a way to either reduce left stick sensitivity while aiming with these weapons, or allow for aiming with the right stick (that already has a reduced sensitivity in place) and shoot with RB. Those would possibly require adjustment in the re3 source code.

Just tried GTA3 on a R36S, and just figured out I'm stupid: Regarding figuring out the best way of aiming with weapons, I discovered that if I change the controls to "Classic Controls", then go to display setup and enable free cam, the game allows moving with left analog, controlling the camera with right analog, and even allows auto aiming with R button, the gameplay might become much easier for players with controllers.
Can't believe I beat both GTA3 and GTAVC with modern controls, and struggled a lot with aiming sights with pistols and SMGs, while I could simply rely upon auto aiming with R1 button if I were using classic controls. But what drawed me away from it and made me use modern controls was because I wrongly thought it's the only way of controlling the camera with the right analog stick.

Check your sensitivity settings in the config text file. They might be with small values, causing left analog aiming slower and not properly working.

One short question please. I want to add another language to the game (TEXT). How can i do that? I have the file but i don't know how to add it to the in game menu.
I don't know if it's possible to just add another new .gxt file into the /TEXT folder to make it also appear in the game menu... Just try it out. And if that doesn't work, you can always just rename your .gxt file into a name that is already there. For example, if you have a swedish.gxt file, make a backup copy of (for example) the german.gxt file and then rename your swedish.gxt file into german.gxt
Then choose German in the game and it should display your swedish translation. It's a workaround, try it out!
My version has nine languages available, by the way. And they all can be selected in the game menu.
Just replace the files and it'll work fine. I managed to beat GTA3 and VC through re3 and reVC using Brazilian Portuguese translations and got no issues with it.

I also want to ask how the language is actually loaded. Since I use Chinese, which is not an alphabetic language, it generally requires loading fonts to be rendered properly.
AFAIK, most translations simply replace existing ones, instead of adding new ones.
And for most translations, all character fonts are already there, so except for editing one character or another, the changes are minimal.
That said, there are better GTA modding channels out there you can ask for help. A pretty good place is "AML: Android Mod Loader". It's both a tool and a Discord channel with a lot of people dedicated to modding GTA games.
