it takes way longer than it should to get the flowers it asks of you
and a good of flowers which some are needed for the paelltes are locked behind a little more or less than half main story progress (or what im assuming is around the halfway point)

No, they are not. Players who join don't even get the basic starting palette that the host has (and there's no way for them to ever get it).
