When i go into map properties and type the name of my vtf/bmt files and then make a hollow square with the toolsskybox texture around my map with no overlapping and go into the game it then shows no texture/transparent texture. Where am i going wrong?

it works when i use the base skybox textures that comes with hammer
not with custom
turn off hdr
thats my first recommendation and my second is to check the vtf version
gmod isnt compatible with vtf 7.1

click the info tab
tick no mipmap and no level of detail
save the file
and then check if that side works ingame
you can also use hammer++ to check it

and make sure the format is bgr888
or dtx5
or dxt5 i forgot
and mess with the choices until none of the options are chosen

cause whoever made the skybox should name it anokbk for the back texture if they want people to put anok
but its anok_bk
so you need to put in anok_
if i were to name the back texture of a skybox skyday-bk then people needs to put in skyday- and not skyday

Should i just delete the _ from the vtf/vtn files and adjust the code accordingly?
if you have the time then yes, cause you need to rename the vtfs, the vmts and go inside each vmt and change the filename
