I just took all the skyboxes from CSGO cuz I map in Portal 2. Dragged and dropped them into the proper files, but when I rendered my map, all the geometry and models were invisible and all I could see is the skybox. No problem, I wrote down the solution to that. Open the skybox's VMT files, and in each one of them, replace "sky" with "Unlitgeneric", (quotation marks included) and remove any $ignore z. On my old computer that'd fix it right up, but this time, it just made the skybox gray. What's going on??
#Skybox is gray..?

Also no I don't have a light_environment yet. But the skybox texture itself should still be visible, no?
you changed the skybox in the map properties thing to the correct ones right?
in L4D2 at least the skyboxes need to be _hdr or they wont show up might be a similar issue here? Because for me that fixed the 2d preview
Yeah I entered the name into the skybox part of the map properties.
And I’m pretty sure it does have hdr in it
I copied the name
Does anyone know why the skybox appears gray in-game?
Everything else like the sunlight and stuff works just fine, but after I fixed the skybox, instead of working properly the texture is gray.
What reasons would there be for the skybox to appear gray?
wrong vtf version, files in the wrong folder, wrong folder typed in the .vmt , wrong shader in the vmt, skies don't work in the game, file need to be packed into vpk before game can read them ,,
