#How to add custom content without touching the already existing folders?

I'm coming back to CS:GO mapping after a couple of years break and after I reinstalled the game, I'm trying to add my old custom content back in, and it's not working. I have folders named csgo\materials_b and csgo\models_b with all my custom content which I don't remember if it's something everyone has or if it's something I've made myself, but either way none of the custom content in there shows up. Another thing which I don't know if it's a customization I've made years ago or a feature for everyone is the csgo_dev folder which is in the same place as csgo and sdk_content and alike. None of the custom assets in there show up either. In TF2, I know that you can add stuff to the tf\custom folder and it'll show up in Hammer and in-game so I tried it in CS:GO too without success.

None of these paths work even if I add csgo\custom\* or csgo_dev to the gameinfo.txt folder. Am I missing something obvious or it there no way of adding custom content without messing with the standard csgo\materials and csgo\models folders?

The * is not possible on csgo
While css and TF2 gameinfo got the custom/ folder setup like that, for CSGO, you need to specify each folder you have

csgo/custom/myFolder
csgo/custom/myOtherCustomFolder

Is there any reason why hammer++ doesn't seem to mount my extra content that I define this way?

("this way" being search paths in gameinfo)

i assume it should read the gameinfo file to find what to load
