I was putting a pet jewel on and it even gave an accurate Title of the jewel and it still socketed the wrong jewel this was my only death giver one too..
PSA to store all jewels before socketing to not get this bug.

I've had this happen twice. I use cursor mode it seems to help. Storing jewels is a safe option as well.

Make sure when it gives you the confirm pop-up that it's still highlighting the jewel you want
And if it's not then press A on it a couple times and try it again
