Dying in the game is not serious at all. You can lose a battle, use a potion and try again. This doesn't give any thrill while fighting.
If we win we get loots so it's only fair that monsters get our equipment if we lose.

IDEA - first implement simple changes like if you lose a battle It will notify you "you lost a random equipped equipment (name) , defeat the monster to get it back" the monster will have the stats of the equipment.
It will be more fun if the equipment/effect stays with monster while other players battle too. Just limit it to which monster can steal how much Higher equipment so that higher level players don't make low level monsters intentionally tough.

If you want some extra challenge you could just unequip a piece of gear each time you lose for a self imposed penalty, but making this standard for the game would just be ridiculous

Try soloing all the hard bosses and dungeons, on all the different schools. It is also fun to jump to a friend in a world your low-level wizards don't belong in and doing some fights there.

I had great fun collecting for monstrology in Karamelle long before getting my shadow spells

I have actually thought about this and AGREE the probably for losing is too minor. In fact think about being defeated vs fleeing, how does that even make sense that if you flee you lose mana (and most likely already lost most of your health and hence why you're fleeing) but if you are defeated you get to keep your mana and can even be rewarded with quest completion and drops if your friends finish the fight. If you flee to fight another day shouldn't that save you something? That said I agree losing equipment would be a huge No-Go and lead to a player uprising. But maybe you could take some gold or energy or even XP.
So I agree there isn't much penalty for losing and in fact sorry if encouraged over fleeing to fight another day, but any additional penalty would have to be carefully weighed.

Well to add my thoughts to this interesting concept, I think the enemy should wear the item yes [mobs do use their own gear after all], but you’re not actually at risk with losing it

I mean you’d have to be loony to think anyone would agree with losing a crowns or long farm item permanently!

Like:
Loose to an enemy in a street fight, you loose xp. But a boss locks away one of your gear pieces.
Everytime you switch worlds, you have to play but a different deckathon/dungeon challenge mode/pvp rules
Whenever an enemy drops a piece of gear you can use, it auto-equips and you can't swap back until you win 1 boss fight (of the world you're in) with your current gear
Etc

I feel like a much more reasonable and do able way of making a challenging version of wiz is challeng mode realms special realms disconnected from the other ones. No shared bank and no crown gear/henchmen. Only path b spells and ever boss cheats from rattlebones onward. If you die in a dungeon there is no port back button you just have to restart. It makes it more challenging as dieing has a cost but at the same time your not forced into playing on those realems so it fair

Both allowed path A and B should be allowed. They’re not “PvE and PvP” paths but just alternate versions of the same spell. Some just have legacy effects or is an AoE and thus are banned.
