#no more cheats (or at least a reduction of cheats)

i'm proposing that moving forward, we get no more cheating bosses, in exchange for tougher fights.

cheats... one of the most vital aspects of "difficulty" in fights all across the spiral. even starting from wizard city to present, they've been constantly implemented in bosses and even regular fights to add a gimmick to the battle.

while cheats are good for special gimmicks in most fights, also in most fights, they force the player to play differently in a way they don't like. bosses have cheats that trigger when certain spells are used, cheats that trigger when certain actions are preformed, even cheats that completely change your deck and some that change your character. it's almost like some extra flavor to the fight.

but this flavor is dying. we are so used to cheats now that negative things come from it. its now seeming like artificial difficulty, like the devs are almost completely unable to create a decent fight without shoving cheats into it somewhere. a lot of us are tired of this and want a change of pace, something new, something we feel we have all the creative deckbuilding potential we want that isnt hindered by a silly cheat that makes the fight boring or overly-stressful.

personally i believe its time to do away with cheats and focus more on the roots. i understand that cheats are what make fights "difficult" (in reality, it makes them annoying), but there is another way to accomplish this: stats and decks. take Willie for example. on top of his cheats, he has some DANGEROUS stats. at 50 mythpierce and 150 mythDamage, he hits SO hard that the cheats are completely unnecessary. this creates enough pressure and even promotes teamwork from all 4 wizards to safely overcome this.

this is the route that should be taken moving forward. bosses and even regular mobs can be just as threatening if they have harder hitting spells and their AI allows them to buff into these spells. this removes the need for silly cheats entirely because the wizard's life is actually in danger, and they need to do what they can to stay alive while preparing to defeat the enemy. again, this promotes TEAMWORK.

#

here is an example of a boss creature i created:

#

this boss was created in the image of it having no cheats.

#

this boss still poses a great threat to the wizard(s) fighting it. it hits VERY hard (LIKE WILLIE, REMEMBER?) a fight like this would promote teamwork sadly never seen before. you would see more things like "need someone to spam shields, preferrably ice" or "need a death for bad juju and weakness spamming" and of course, you cant forget the "need a storm hitter with high pierce and damage"

it helps push the movement of school identity even outside of advanced content. it even discourages the use of feints, due to the boss's high offensive capability.

#

the problem with this game for years has been the constant, unwarranted use of cheats that cause fights to become just annoying. its time to change this and finally bring us something new

#

here is another example boss:

#

so, tldr;

please stop relying heavily on cheats to make fights difficult. take a look at the stats and decks for once.

@eager falcon
@crystal blaze
@hard moon (sorry but youre too smart to not include)

thoughts on this suggestion?

#

@arctic minnow you too for sure

crystal blaze
#

Oh yeah we need bosses with actual offensive power to encourage more defensive and long play strategies instead of just “lol feint”

#

Make it too risky to glass cannon fights

wintry sundial
#

its time for something different and actually engaging for everyone

#

school identities can actually shine

#

too many ppl complain about school identity being dead too

So this boss has 17k hp + 73 resist, and most people can hit 45+ pierce including Ices. This boss not having any cheats to stop things like feint stacking / blade stacking will make the entire concept a moot point. Your typical max level team can easily beat this boss in 2-3 turns, so unless it has multiple minions who spam debuffs (which are nearly ignorable with the full group goes first bonus) then this boss won't pose any sort of problem.

The tools the playerbase has makes cheats nearly mandatory otherwise it will devolve to blade blade aoe.

#

The largest problem in balancing the game is how you can balance fights for 1 person, that 4 people cannot decimate and vice versa

wintry sundial
#

the offensive capability it has with its damage and pierce are enough to discourage feinting

#

cheats are not required for the game to be hard its just annoying artificial difficulty

tribal vigil
wintry sundial
#

sure, but thats just you

#

so this boss would still hurt the majority

#

itd hurt me even if im not protecting myself properly

#

so overall its a step in the right direction approve

#

no more cheats, only stats

tribal vigil
#

but how is making the stats this high not the exact same as making anti feint cheats, except for anti-feint cheats allow players who don't have stats in the top 90% of your schools caps not be punished as harshly

#

i see how youre thinking

#

my intro to this suggestion pretty much explains that though

#

or like combats that theory in a sense

#

do with it as you may but this is definitely the direction KI needs to take

plucky jewel
#

Personally, I think this is the wrong direction for KI right now. Maybe it would work better for advanced combat related challenges, but definitely not in regular PvE. Replacing cheats with mobs that have ridiculously high stats doesn't really correlate that well.

#

PvE is supposed to be casual and soloable for the most part. Trying to make things more difficult for the casual player is a step backwards in what PvE is trying to be right now. Not to mention, that cheats give flexibility. Some cheats are easy to get through, others are much harder. Some cheats reward players for thinking outside the box, while others punish players that try to disregard them and "steamroll through."

#

Could cheats be improved? 100%. However I don't think trying to replace them or remove them by making enemies have crazy stats is the right approach.

thats not unique at all

its an RNG-based fight

plucky jewel
tribal vigil
#

I see very little RNG here. As its not a cheat that instantly kills you, it does 33% of your max HP for the RNG component

plucky jewel
#

Lol we both on the wiki

#

Seems like attacking it will disrupt the cycle of its natural attack doing a percentage of your health.

even with all this being said it doesnt invalidate that this sort of cheat exists. its artificial difficulty

#

can we PLEASE have something NEW

tribal vigil
plucky jewel
#

Aren't they always coming up with new cheats though? Its not like this type of cheat is a common thing.

wintry sundial
#

its an endless loop that doesnt get anywhere

tribal vigil
#

now you have come to realize thats the case for all games!

wintry sundial
#

its like when youre cooking food you always feel the need to put salt in it or something. try it naturally for once

#

do i even need to mention the terrible experience with enki + the prophet in selenopolis

#

cheats cheats cheats cheats all over the place

#

its not fun. its just annoying. we all know this

plucky jewel
#

Enki and the prophet had one of the most unique cheat systems in a very long time.

#

ive had many people agree with me too

tribal vigil
#

your suggestion is to punish players with worse gear while making every fight a breeze for 4 people teams

wintry sundial
#

so again, we need something new

#

it always goes back to that Shrug

plucky jewel
#

Punishing players for a spell being cast is different than punishing players for an entire fight though.

plucky jewel
#

Making more fights require teamwork is not the way to go though. You want players to be able to solo most fights. Hence why you would punish a player for an action, rather than punish a player for being alone/being in the entire fight.

tribal vigil
# wintry sundial ^

increased stats punish players for not being in a team more than basic anti-blade / anti-trap cheats

wintry sundial
#

is that the direction this company has taken
