#disappointed and suggestion

In fairness, I don’t get why this is an issue. Only the top 3 servers are averagely full. Swap realms.
This, and the game has over 30 realms to pick from anyway, so you could easily just switch from Ambrose to Drake for a much emptier realm
i didn't mean my question as a dismissal of the suggestion but as a legit inquiry to see if there are additional factors to consider.
Swap realms lol, this is a non-issue imo
if you have a problem with people afk-ing/idling so they don't log out then idk what to tell you
Honestly this. It's basically an accepted universal sign that the player isn't present at the game at the time. If the launcher didn't take as long as it did, I imagine that not as many people would be spinning
besides, there's like, dozens worth of other realms
This. Switch from Ambrose to something like Greyrose and you'll see considerably less people
Really the issue is that the game doesn't have an AFK mode. If the game notice no response from the player after a given time, they're just kicked out of the game and it takes time to re-login, something that most players don't want to deal with
this gives me an idea for a new suggestion. make character selection an afk area so people can exit to the character selection classroom and not get kicked off and not have to stay in game and spin and take up extra resources.
I wouldn't be entirely opposed to this, although a lot of people still probably wouldn't take advantage of it because they would still want to be able to receive DMs if someone needed something that wasn't time critical
but DMs only "work" if they are spinning in an empty area, otherwise other conversations scroll the msg off the window. and if they are spinning in an empty area, it's like a tree that falls in a forest ...
Which they definitely can be. I'm just saying that banning spinning as a whole (which is an intended feature, not a bug or exploit) isn't a good idea. Of course, most of us do it because the launcher takes far too long, but still.
i did not suggest banning spinning. but i disagree that it was an intended feature, just an exploit they choose to accept (like housing glitching).
I was more referring to the OP. Additionally, it's specifically a predefined feature in the config.xml file, so if it wasn't intended, that would be a strange thing to add specific support for. (Then again, we have advanced castle movement)
This isn't information obtained through data mining or anything, in the past, the developers have referenced editing the config.xml file for the purpose of changing key bindings, and the key bind is defined there.
If it wouldn’t take 10 mins to log in each time on the launcher, I bet the amount of “spinners” would drop dramatically
^^
Maybe I'm not aware, does the people spinning affect those in the hatchery?
OP's suggestion is to make it so people can't spin in that area because they don't want people to be able to spin there. There are no gameplay changes that I've observed when people spin there.
Granted, I'm one to talk as I have wizards that always spin, although for a different reason
I see. So implementing this change aside from "aesthetic" - there's not much reason lol.
From my understanding. I hate to be condescending to OP, but we have other realms for a reason
Yeah, people spinning isn't really going to do anything. And if its "full" of those people... you just switch realms. ;/ (also a spinny person)
And if it's too full, the game will then automatically make you switch realms
Clarifying this, here's a post on Wizard101's forums that has a developer imply that it's perfectly fine to view the file and rebind keys: https://www.wizard101.com/forum/halstons-laboratory/is-there-a-way-to-change-key-commands-20287. This is how I know that it is intended to be able to spin AFK because the key binding is explicitly predefined
yes i agree shift plus move intended to 'run' or continuously move in that direction is intentional. the use of that to prevent auto disconnect i don't believe was intentional.
Probably not intended, or at least they likely didn't have in mind that people would use it that way. I still wouldn't call it an exploit though as it doesn't give an actual advantage or something. The ability to spin itself still was definitely intended because it was explicitly programmed
i think we are now on the same page 😀. that said i have to imagine that afk spinning consumes more game resources than if they sat "out of game" in their classroom.
I only hope they don't remove it. I really do make use of it for the friendly players list
i srsly doubt they will. if they would i would think they would have banned it in dungeons by now. BUT removing afk disconnect from classroom could let many of us that really don't want to spin in game a way to be afk without logging off. btw friendly players list? maybe dm what for (so we don't hijack this thread even more than we have already 😂)
